Fun facts from Wikipedia about our climate here in the Sunshine State: Florida has more thunderstorms than any other state. Florida has the highest density of lightning strikes within the US. Florida has more tornadoes per square mile than any other state. Florida gets hit by more storms (tropical cyclones / hurricanes / typhoons) than any other state. The record for one season is 4 strikes, during the 2004 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
Jonathon Kearney more or less, just don’t go outside during a storm, get food and water for hurricanes (if you don’t worry during the storm you will be fine), don’t swim in any body of water from dusk till dawn, stay hydrated, and you will be good.
Dude, this helps me sooo much to sleep in the dry season, live in Lakeland and love the big, loud, and long storm. The strikes that shake the house are the best.
You should of been here when I was a kid. Every Summer afternoon at 3 the thunderboomers would be blasting with frequent lightning. Even from a distance you could hear loud thunder frequently. Also steering was faster so storms usually didn't sit on top of you more the 10-20 min.
Anyone else thinking about setting up their house/room somehow with speakers and or displays that it simulated the actual feeling of thunderstorm outside?
I moved from louisiana to southern oregon 4yrs ago. I miss the food, the lightning bugs, and the true rainstorms...the ones that wake you up or make you pull over on the interstate or make you stand in your yard and watch the sky change, feel the wind, smell the perfect chaos of a true rainstorm. I'm not sure I'll ever move back, but thank you thank you thank you for this recording...it eases my spirit.
I feel ya. Florida girl born and raised. Moved to the Mid-West almost 10 years ago. I miss my daily thunderstorms with smell of ozone in the air, southern cookin', those hot humid nights where you can feel the single drops of sweat running down your back under your shirt. Rain so thick you have to pull off under an overpass and get out to wait till it let's up some, the smell of hot asphalt and water fresh in your nose. Good memories.
i just shot up in the middle of the night worrying about my great grandma. i spent every summer growing up in Stuart in her little jungle, catching lizards and walking to the sunoco for soda. these storms came on every single afternoon and soaked the sand back into the ground. thank you for uploading this, I feel like i’m 10 again, sitting around in her parlor, waiting for the fan to oscillate my way.
Hello my name is Beryl, and I’m from Tampa, Florida. I don’t know about everyone else out there, but this is the kind of rain, and thunder that I’ve been missing. I moved too Minneapolis, Minnesota. Unfortunately, one of the most things I miss by not being in Florida besides the great taste of Southern food is the awesome sound of a great rain and thunderstorm! This is the most relaxing sound too me, the thundering and rain is what gives me my best nights sleep! I have quite a few neck and upper back problems 6 too be exact, including Rheumatoid Arthritis. I stopped taking my medicine years ago, they only made me drowsy and sleep a lot. Life was passing me by very quickly! I wanted too personal tell you that “you are awesome” and please if only for me too keep sending these! I also have a couple of saying! This too shall pass! What doesn’t kill you, will make you stronger! Thanks! Please have a great day, because that’s what I’m going to do!😷😀
Thank you for this wonderful comment! So sorry about the late response. We really didn't expect this video to get so much attention, and it's truly an honor to see so many people enjoying it because it reminds them of home. Maybe someday we'll record enough audio to make another one of these.

Thank you so very much for posting it, it is a really high quality soundscape and should get me to sleep happily and often!
