I use 1/4" to 1/8" cables, very simple and you don't need to take up module space, simple workflow. I haven't gone crazy with cross patching the synths, but I love the idea that it is possible. The SEM is incredible. If you can swing it, go for it!
Thank you! Congrats on the SEM. As for dotcom, it depends on what you want to do. The modules tend to be old school "meat and potato" Moog-style, not as fancy and varied as the euro world. If you're into sequencing, Moon does some amazing stuff. MacBeth builds discreet circuits with as many old parts as possible for a retro sound. Lots of smaller builders have come on the scene in the last few years. Check out the 5U forum on muffwiggler for more info.
@Marfordel Thanks! If you're talking about the keyboard version of the Phatty, that would probably be the best choice. That way you'd have a controller and could eventually add on a SEM. If synthgod will truly only let you have one, then you need to listen to more demos and decide which sounds best to you :-)
In my humble opinion one of the best sounding analog synth out there. So different from anything else and so much more musical. I think the demo is good as well although it seem recorded with the cameras microphone?
@vstbull Are you saying that Tom Oberheim has built the first virtual digital synthesizer? :-) Glad you liked the video, and thanks for the nice comments!
@jorgentraun Absolutely a unique and musical synth, so much fun to tweak. Synth audio is straight into the computer, I just mixed in a touch of camera audio for ambient patching/switching sound, etc.
Great demo of the SEM man! I loved it so much I indeed bought myself one as well. I've worked with dotcom gear before yet I own all eurorack stuff at the moment although I'm definitely interested in getting my hands on a dotcom rig as well. Any advice on great modules versus not so great modules available in dotcom for someone looking into getting some? Again though seriously, nice demo of the SEM!
Nicely done! How have you found it, interfacing the SEM with dotcom? Are you using Roger's minijack module or special cables? Does having to go from big to small jacks ever break your workflow when you're patching, or does it go together smoothly? Do you find yourself ever accessing individual sections of the SEM from within a larger dotcom patch, or do you just tend to always use all the sections of the SEM internal to itself? I'm all dotcom now, but I'm pondering adding an SEM myself!
Cool! I'm happy to hear that. I love the raw sound of the SEM all by itself.
This is the video that sold me on the q119.
Rhythmicons Awesome!
