A cheap analog delay can really change thins up, especially the Monotron. What fun little device. It's great when you can Lofi something the op-z, it's becomes a whole different machine.
It really does. Idk what has me so captivated about the Monotron, but I can't put it down. It seems no matter what kind of video I'm making I'm always tempted to add it into the mix lol.
Nice as usual, and great thanks for the shift+parameter tip! However there's a little mistake, the KMD is an analog synth with a digital delay effect (PT2399 chip). You can get even cheaper ($5) delays with this chip but they will have tricky power requirements (12V, pff) and won't have the filter. On the other hand, supposedly they won't be as noisy.
@@FreeBeat It is! And it's a big part of its character, so replacing it with a cheaper less noisy board would also require making a DIY analog filter. Still I think I will try it one day.
The hiss is in there, just not as pronounced as some other monotron videos. I believe I set the volume of the monotron pretty low and maxed out the op-z, then raised everything up in post. I believe I recorded this video in mono with a TR cable. Thanks for watching!
Can you plug a regular dynamic mic straight into the Monotron? Thinking of using one as a battery powered dub delay for the mic. Like mic into monotron, then its headphone output into JBL Partybox 100 mic input. Plus music on the JBLs usb slot. Is the mic signal hot enough to go direct into the monotron.
Free Beat ah i see, thought so. Will test with a little battery powered mini mixer, mic into that, then out to monotron. Lol, when I get the monotron that is, in a week.
Free Beat Will do! It’s two small mixers same size as Monotron, from Urban Outfitters of all places, runs on two AA. Bought two! Also got two first Gen Kaoss Pads. The Monotron is 50 dollars new in Sweden, but like 45 dollars second hand. Hard to find new ones.
Not specifically (at least I don't believe so), but the percussion tracks each have 2 note polyphony, so if you plan it properly you can get some pretty cool chokes.
The Monotron is great, I love it. But maybe saying in the title that it makes everything SOUND BETTER" is a bit in contrast with its noise!! (even if I love that noise!!!)
Haha you're probably right. I titled the video right after I finished filming, so I was pretty hyped on the jam lol. I love the noise too! Thanks for watching :)
Your channel is a breath of fresh air. It’s like talking gear with a friend.
Love the boinginess of this track!😛
Haha thank you! I love the word boinginess hahaha
This is crazy I could listen to this jam all day hahaha I want this music!
Great work
Thank you so much!
Wow. Came for a simple demo of a cool sounding synth/delay thing, stayed for the great playing 👽
Thank you so much!
8:00 this sheet gets REAL 😜😎🎶✌️🖖
My favorite part as well, I was headbanging pretty hard hahaha.

Lovely jam. I definitely buy monotron delay. It sounds sick and it looks like it can generate a lots of good sounding weird stuff. Yes!
Yeah it's awesome!
50k total views, congrats, keep up the good videos👍
I didn't even notice haha, thank you so much!
Shift + Effects on OPZ = Thanks !
Yeah! This is such a neat little trick, and so simple haha.

Ahhh thank you! I had no idea, I'll be sure to state things as such in the future. I take it that the KMD filter is properly analog still?

Amazing beat!!
Thank you!
The classic monotron
Got to love it haha.
Love the homemade electronic beats.
Thank you!
Where is the hiss of MNTN DL? Do you use TR or TRS cables?
The hiss is in there, just not as pronounced as some other monotron videos. I believe I set the volume of the monotron pretty low and maxed out the op-z, then raised everything up in post. I believe I recorded this video in mono with a TR cable. Thanks for watching!
That was pretty good
Thanks so much!
How are you hooked up to play it through monitors or daw
Everything plugs into my interface (Zoom H5) and then the monitors plug into the headphone out of the interface

I'm not entirely sure, but I know I can't plug in my mics directly into the monotron, they need to run through a preamp first.

@@RankingSpicey That should do the trick, let me know how it works for you!

Does the op Z have a "choke" feature ? Where a new sound will cancel the old one like the PO 32 has ?
Not specifically (at least I don't believe so), but the percussion tracks each have 2 note polyphony, so if you plan it properly you can get some pretty cool chokes.
Thanks :D
It's not an analog delay. It's a cheap digital delay that sounds analog because it creates awesome artifacts. PT2399 IC.

The monotron delay is good but it's noisy as hell.
It definitely is lol. Just gotta find ways around it!
@@FreeBeat okay cool. Can you tell me what you've did to fix the problem?
@@wiggesobk you could always add a gate to cut out hiss
@@howdypooki i've bought a noise gate pedal. It works, but not perfectly. Do you tried it?
