A hidden features of all of the monotrons is that the back of the circuit boards have clearly labeled solder pads on on the most interesting points to make them easy to mod.
As someone who owns all three Monotron types now, I can say each is worth it so long as you get a good deal on one, namely in the ~$50 or less range. They are all incredible but what makes them truly special is how well they integrate with each other, and subsequently the rest of your gear. It is like having different modules of a greater synthesizer while all having standout pieces, like the Voltron of miniaturized analog synths! Love this video :D
@@goldenstarmusic1689 thank you for checking out the video. Elsewhere on my channel I have a video where I plugged the three Monotrons into each other. It was a fun experiment… and I totally agree. They’re all great.
Fabulous review! I own a Delay and Duo, given to me as a X-mas present about 5 years ago. I used the Delay as a generator of spacey sound effects over a small electronic live performance by me at the local art academy.
I'm glad it was helpful! That's why I make these vids. For what they cost they're all pretty darn useful. I have to say the Delay is my fave but it's really hard to play recognizable notes on it so it's usually relegated to an effect.
I think it's time for Korg to make a new Monotron combining elements of all three. Filter with resonance + delay + second oscillator which can either be heard, or FM / AM the first, or modulate filter cutoff. If they did make that for $70 and synced the lfo to external external clock so it could be used with Pocket Operators etc, it would be a massive hit
Hi Kale, awhile back i bought the duo as my intro to this amazing way above my head stuff😅,played around with it but lately haven't had no extra time to do anything i like to do especially building cbg's, thanks for sharing ,i did learn a bit👍
Thanks for chiming in Gary. The Monotrons are really powerful little synths for what they cost. The Duo is actually pretty powerful. It does take a bit to figure it out though.
very cool My life partner gave me a garage sale Yamaha PSR-77 that she had for years. I put d cell batteries in it and it works. So we have ordered a power supply. At an antique mall yesterday I bought a line 6 lowdown ld15 bass amp. WOW the difference that makes in my canjo is mind blowing. So between the two I have lots of things to figure out. I have down loaded the manuals for both and am starting to read them. We will see where we can go from here. Bottom line... Thank you for all the help
Have fun with those vintage finds. I'm so glad to hear you like my vids and that they've helped you. That's awesome. These Monotrons are a lot of fun but I think you'll have plenty with that PSR-77.
For me it is a good place to start. I have a wine bottle box with a sliding lid that I am going to put one of the preamps from C. B. Gitty in I am also planning on get a bass fuzz peddle kit and putting it in the box also. I hope to figure out how to wire them together trough a 3 way switch.
Cool comparison vid! I really like the Delay but I have the Duo as well, I should fool around with the Duo a bit more than I have. I still need to get an original Monotron, well I don't need one really but it bugs me that I'm missing one.
Awesome video as always. Could you tell me where you bought the cable you used to pick up the sound of the Korg ? And what model it is ? I read that putting the wrong kind of cable in the headphones jack can damage the synth so I'd rather be careful when trying to send it into an amplifier. Thank you !
Thanks for checking out the video. The cable is a Hosa CMP-153. You can buy them pretty much anywhere (Guitar Center, Sam Ash, Amazon, etc). It has 1/8" stereo on one end and dual 1/4" mono jacks on the other.
I have all three. I can’t figure out why the Duo has the quietest speaker output of the 3. My original run Japanese made b&w Monotron has the loudest speaker, my recently purchased Monotron Delay is fairly loud too but the Duo, which I purchased in 2012 or ‘13 has a strangely quiet speaker.
You can sample anything. Literally anything if you have the right combination of hardware/software. These would be fairly easy to sample using a microphone and a sampler. Thanks for watching the video.
You can definitely play tones on all 3 Montrons. I don't know if you'd want to record an entire album with them, but it's certainly possible. Thanks for checking it out.
Would be nice if the voices could be changed. Got no idea why nobody makes a pocket sized keyboard that comes with brass, piano, woodwind, string voices.
Thanks for checking out the video. I have a separate video about the differences here: ruclips.net/video/rCuX1jRCzKw/видео.html In short, even though they're similar, they have very different controls. Each one does something well. If you're looking to do just that thing, then having all 3 is probably redundant. However, if you want to do a lot of different things with a Monotron, you might want more than 1.
@@musicalmiscellany I've just bought the original Monotron, then I'm going to grab the Delay, and then the Duo. I'm fascinated if they can work in sequence, because I'd say it would be ridiculous in a great way, maybe 🤔🧐😂

I have heard that but I've yet to try it. It sounds like fun though. Thanks for checking out the vid.
I had no clue, that's an absolute game changer!
@@Snolferd I think you can still find the schematics for all 3 - download from Korg

I’d name it the Monotron Max and unleash it
What does that mean? Syncing lfo to external clock? Like allowing bpm on PO to control the lfo?

Tjek out the korg Nts-1, as a effect box/synthesizer. It go good friend to your yamaha. Like the monotron delay.
