The Sololist is the now "Dr." Melissa Davis and is my voice teacher at my college at University of Arkansas- Pine Bluff. on that vibrato will never get old. :)
I LOVE it. Never heard this version before. I sing it another way, and now I have fallen in love with this song. I love it. Sing child! The lady singing is sweet. God bless all of them. I would love to sing with them one day.
that song fulled spirit...that song was good from the being to end, from soloist to painist to the choir....that soloist was sent from above Beautiful voice
One of the best presentations I have seen of this song. One can feel the emotion. Absolutely wonderful. It is on my playlist. Whenever I pass by my computer, I see the chorale and want to take the time to listen. Thank you for sharing the message....
The Bethune Cookman University concert chorale performed this last night at their Christmas concert. The lead was a counter tenor. He ate this song up!
The soprano is very talented, this is a wonderful performance, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This song started out, though, as a simple spiritual sung by slaves before the Civil War. To hear it sung that way, listen to the solo and unaccompanied version by Barbara Hendricks. Its power is in its simplicity. Bless the memory of those unknown women and men who sang this as slaves, and did not live to see the day of freedom, but left us the precious gift of this song.
I LOOVE THIS SONG!!! Currently the choir that I am in; The University Concert Choir of Langston University is singing this song at our Christmas program! I LOOVE this song!!!! It's soo BEAUTIFUL, filled with a little jazz, and blues, including a little spiritual feeling to it!!! I LOOVE IT; and I LOVE the chords within the song! The soloist....AMAZING!!!! She SAAANG that song!! She TRULY has a gift and has a BEAUTIFUL voice! Yes, she's DEFINITELY a 1st Soprano in which I am too! lol. =)
I did too as the song climax. She blessed me as well, and the dark sounds of the choir was beautiful, at Rust College we sing it a different way. This sounds more spiritual than classical. I must recommend this version to my school.
Mary had a baby, yes she did!!! Man, her soulful soprano vocals get down in my soul so envious of the women and even more so men who can sing like that. My high school choir director always said I had too much soul for the classical pieces our class would usually perform. I sounded like a mouse y'all trying to sing like that! LMBO! Gold ole' days!!! My yonder years. :(
WOW!!! This rendition/ performance is a little bit better than perfect! The Chorale, the soloist- Melissa!-, and the director; are just spot on. Please tell me, this young lady is recorded elsewhere? She/ they have brought new life to this Precious Truth.
Wow! What a fantastic voice! She sings from her heart using everything God gave her. But, I didn't hear what I understand to be the last line: "People keep a-comin' an' the train done gone".
I love this song when I was a kid I sang this in school and I imagined I was Mary having a baby and I told myself Mary look after your baby when it is born
@vonDali - all I can tell you is the piece has a dedication to Karen Winston about the title "Mary Had a Baby" and was written by Roland Carter. The copywrite says MAR-V1 L Hampton Institute, VA. I hope that helps. :)
I have to sing a rendition of this song for a play I'm in but I'm not that strong of a soprano... Octave lower will work for me though. She did great!!
