She was one of my favorite characters in the show, but I'll have to admit that I was a bit disappointed when they wrote her trans. I don't think there's anything disappointing in being trans, but I feel that the storyline was harmful, especially for young people. Coach Beiste had attributes that are usually considered masculine. It was a running gag in a show. I felt like writing Beiste trans was an "explanation" for that, so it wouldn't be a joke anymore. How is it, that if a woman has masculine attributes, they have to be written like this? Why couldn't she/he stay as a female character with unique personality and femininity? I think writing Beiste trans is a subtle message to young women that having as many masculine attributes as she did is wrong.
@@TuomariMuller That's the problem with shows today. Beiste had an amazing character arc that sent a positive message that girls with more masculine traits can still be straight and that they struggle with self-esteem issues because of the pressure society puts on them because "you must be gay", "no guy will ever love a girl like you", etc.. But then they make her a transgender? Really? So if a girl looks more manly than she is a guy? This is wrong in so many levels. I hate this social justice warriors that end up that don't realize how they end up being more discriminatory than others. That's like that stupid and dumb Miley Cyrus that went on Ellen's show saying that it's a great idea to make Elsa from Frozen a lesbian. So you create a movie that tell kids that family and friends love is the most important thing, and that a woman doesn't need a man to fill her heart with love and now you make her a lesbian? So if a girl wants to be alone (and women get a lot of pressure to get someone, specially as they get older) she is probably a lesbian? Stop being hypocrites.
@@TuomariMuller as a trans guy myself I agree so much it was really unnecessary and harmful both for young girls who don’t fit the ‘girly girl’ stereotype and us trans youth. @@TuomariMuller I absolutley agree. I know. She never deserved to have that happen to her but now she’s finally happy with someone who loves her and as of recently, she’s become a mother now, I hope all of it makes her happy and that she remains safe and loved for all time now.
It’s like my Mom and Dad, my Mom dealt with domestic violence from my dad and with help from her Lawyer, a few close family friends, and her siblings, he moved out and moved in with his parents and my mom is getting better, everyone sure take Beiste’s advice
Lays Potato Chips I’m five months late but I just wanted to say that I proud of your mom for standing up for herself not only for herself but for you as well. So proud of you guys and wish you nothing but the best 💕
Yeah know I’m a trans guy, and I’ll be the first one to tell you we need more trans representations, but it’s scenes like this that anger the shit out of me when it comes to Glee. Beiste was the first time that a straight women was shown on TV where she wasn’t feminine. Like she showed masculine women in a light that we desperately need. Like people would see her and assume she was gay but she proved masculinity didn’t equal sexuality. The two weren’t mutually exclusive. Or that tough looking women who could “take care of themselves” could still be victims of abuse.
Chiara Offreduccio exactly this episode was important because it broke that. But now it’s just banking on stereotypes. Like if Glee wanted a trans man so bad they could have added one. Like they did with Unique
I spent several seasons thinking Beiste was actually a trans woman and I thought wow, this representation is really nice, a trans woman that doesn't feel the need to be feminine? That's a really cool concept. But then they went and made him a trans man, because god knows a woman can not be unfeminine without having to be trans.
I know it’s just Brittany being herself but her asking “Did he break his hand?” Just made me smile. Instead of asking ‘are you ok’ she went for ‘did something bad happen to him afterwards?’
@@Meangrl19 I think they were in too much shock to really do anything. In situations like this, I think most people just ask those logical questions ("Are you going to leave them?" Beiste was such a great character, with such a sweetness and humility. Thanking the glee girls seems really weird on context, they didn't really do anything helpful - just cracked some crass jokes and then did a wildly inappropriate song and dance routine.

Is it impossible for Cooter to redeem himself? My mom always taught me that anyone can redeem themselves if they truly repent and own their faults. Now obviously Cooter doesn't count since he'd been manipulating Beiste and continuing his temper.
