Dope video. There's not enough Zatoichi content on RUclips. Curious to know what are your top 5 favorite Zatoichi films in the collection? It seems like there's no real consensus on which one's are the best.
This was my dad’s favorite series. I bought the same edition and it’s amazing. It’s pricey but a tip…every Christmas shopping season, Criterion, like this edition, is 50% off. Take advantage.
Very nice overview. For me this is The Grail. If I had to sell all my shows to eat this is the box I'd try to hang on to. Waiting for a price flux on the remake and ICHI. How did you find the blu ray quality on Darkness is His Ally ? I have the dvd. I read some review that said the blu ray was like watching a dvd so wasn't in too bad a hurry to upgrade One interesting note that I didn't hear mentioned here - Tomisaburo Wakayama (stage name), who played Lone Wolf in Lone Wolf & Cub, is the real-life older brother of Shintaro Katsu
I'll add these as being like Zatoichi (All quick sword action!) - The Blind Swordsman's Revenge (Great you've now covered this in a more recent video), 4 Crimson Bat films, The Magnificent Swordsman (Shaw Brothers), My Blade, My Life (Pearl Cheung).

This was really helpful, thanks.
Great guide, I would totally love to see more guide videos. I've watched 3 Zatoichi films so far and I've been loving them.
Thank you :) I’m making another one soon!
One my favorites! I remember watching Zatoichi at my MawMaw's (grandma) crib as kid.
That’s awesome! Cool grandma
Thank you for this Flip! I think I may be finally jumping into this set now, it seems like the right time. Great video, my friend!
Thank you my brother :)
I'm on season 1 episode 17 of the TV show when watching this video...
Thank you for the guide!
Thanks for this vid! Was wondering if the Criterion set was a worthwhile purchase.

Nice primer on a monumentally awesome franchise.
One of the great cinematic experiences. Criterion killed it with this set.
Heck yes they did!
Surprised you didn't mention "Blind Fury" with Rutger Hauer
Star Wars had a ZATOICHI and there was a movie I saw years ago that must be a ZATOICHI, Blind Fury 1989
The TV show was from ‘74 to ‘79 long BEFORE the final movie in 1989.

No mention of Blind Fury?
Doesn’t the golden sticker come on the plastic on the outside of the box set?
It does now. I think the first runs were like this with the sticker on the box but people complained about it.
No love for Blind Fury? It was pretty legit.
Was gonna buy that box set but she was wanting 200 😬
Why did they put the sticker on your box set not on the plastic?!?!?!?
