Good lesson. Thanks. God has been gracious to heal my ankle and now I am walking without the aid of a cane and will see my Dr for the scheduled last visit on Thursday of this week. I praise the Lord for his healing touch. He sure has been faithful in all things during this period of “slow down and think on things above” time in my life. Thank you for your prayers.
Amen, Brother Bagwell, it's good to see you today and to hear the words of God . And to increase our faith. The Word of God is so wonderful to take in our hearts and minds. Praise God
Hearing Paul's statement "for me to live is Christ" is so convicting for me! Because I'm trying to live my life with Christ as the center of my focus! It's not always easy in this world. But I get better at it each day. I am doing a Bible study with the women of my church. It's a lesson by Kay Arthur called "Lord Teach Me To Pray." I'm learning so much, I love it! (Another great shir and tie!)
Lord, thank you that since the inauguration Your Word has a freer course throughout our country! Continue the Great Re-awakening of America. Thank you, Brother!
Oh, what a day that shall be when my Jesus I shall see. When I look upon His face! Yes, for me to live is Christ and to die is gain. What a mighty God we serve!
Thanks for taking the time to type and share those verses. May the words you preach go out and not return void but accomplish the puposes God has for them. May the Lord rebuke the enemy from snatching the words away from peoples hearts as they are sown. Thanks for being a faithful sower of the Word! Great examples for the rest of us. May the word of the Lord have free course and run and get loose and go into every kindred tribe and tongue! May the Lord of the harvest send forth laborers to the harvest! May the Lord Jesus help us to finish the courses he has given us to run.
The Lord is faithful! He has been faithful in every area of my life. He has been good to me all my life. I have never been without. During the hardest times of my life, he was still faithful. He has provided and protected. If I could wrap my head around that truth, and the truth of his love, I would be an unstoppable Christian. I need to put on my armor and protect my mind and heart from the enemy.
Watched and enjoyed. Great class! I thank the Lord for my Pastor, and I pray the Lord will help him each time he stands behind the sacred desk, that the Word may go forth in power. Amen, Bro. Mike.
Lot sit at the gate, of Sodom, hearing their filthy conversations of the wicked and his soul was vexed day by day. His righteous soul. Where are we at ,what are we hearing. These words of the wicked that we hear, really hurt me to the heart. People that takes God's name in vain, hurt me to my soul. I have to block it out and pray for them. ❤
Paul was asking for prayer that he would have liberty to preach what the Holy Spirit had given him, and that the Lord would be glorified. He realized that there would always be those who would cause trouble in the church, but he also encouraged them that God is faithful to stablish you, and keep you from evil. Put on the whole armor of God!
I was just reading Genesis earlier today! I like when Abraham talked with the guests and discussed with God how he would not destroy the wicked with the righteous. God has not appointed us to wrath but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ!
Great study, Dr. Bagwell! "Pray" is in the imperative mood. It is really more than a command. These verses really speak to someone who is going to preach. Paul is asking for prayer that when he preaches that the Word of God may have free course, and the Bible may be glorified. Paul asks for nothing material at all here. Paul leads a Christo-centered life. This is a Christ centered life. See Col. 3:3 & 4. We are dead to what we used to be, and our lives are hid in Christ with God. See Phil. 1:21. For us to live is Christ. "Finally"/λοιπόν/loipon/translated one time "furthermore". It can mean Paul is coming to a conclusion. However, many times "finally" is followed by much more material in Paul's writings. "Brethren"/ἀδελφός/adelphos. He is writing to those who are born again. When Paul writes to Jews, he calls them "kinsmen". "Pray"/προσεύχομαι/proseuchomai/to go before the throne. It is a command, but it is not a harsh or mean command. It is the leader telling the followers that he needs their prayers. He is telling them it is their duty to pray. He didn't just say pray for "me", but he said pray for "us", those in his traveling team. What is it that is to be prayed? Paul gets specific. "That" is a hina clause. This is a statement of purpose. "Word"/λόγος/logos. "Free course"/τρέχω/trechō/translated 19 times as "to run". Pray that the Word of God can get loose and run. That is all that needs to take place in a revival. Let the Word of God get loose in our lives. See Matthew 28:8. The ladies ran to bring His disciples word. This is the meaning of the word. What could keep God's Word from running and having free course? 1) The preacher might not be in tune with God. Preachers need to go to the pulpit without quenching the Spirit of God. 2) The congregation must desire the Word of God as well. See 1 Peter 2:1-2. They have to be hungry for it. 3) Some things need to be laid aside (malice, guile, hypocrisy, envy, evil speaking etc.). You need to pray or your pastor before he preaches. Pray for ease in his preaching. "Glorified"/δοξάζω/doxazo/uplifted, magnified. See Acts 13:48. This was a wild area to minister to. The Gentiles heard the Word, got saved and glorified the Word of the Lord. The Thessalonian believers love the Word of God. There is a linkage between glory and light. Jesus glowed with the brightness of the noonday sun on the Mount of Transfiguration. See Isaiah 66:2. Who is the man that gets God's attention? That person who has a humble and contrite spirit and also trembles at His Word. See Job 23:13. Job said God's Word was more than his necessary food. See Jer. 15:16. Jeremiah found the words of God and he ate them. They rejoiced his heart. The Thessalonians are practicing what Paul is preaching. In the city of Thessalonica (Acts 17), the believers have suffered greatly for their faith. "Delivered"/ῥύομαι/rhuomai/rescued. This is being rescued in the midst of the trouble. This is the same verb in the Lord's prayer in Matt. 6:13, "but deliver us from evil". When Jesus was dying on the cross, they mocked Jesus and said, "let God deliver Him". Paul said, "o wretched man that I am, who shall deliver me from the body of this flesh". See 2 Peter 2:7. God delivered just Lot who was vexed with the filthy conversation. "Ureasonable"/ἄτοπος/atopos/out of place. Translated amiss & harm elsewhere. "Wicked"/πονηρός/ponēros/evil that spreads like a ringworm. Evil men shall wax worse and worse. Don't depart from the faith. Jude 3. Contend for the faith. Men are not faithful, and many Christians are not faithful, but the Lord is faithful. The Lord is unwavering, He changes not. "Stablish"/στηρίζω/stērizō/planted firm on a solid rock foundation. God will be your crutch and prop up your grapevine so you can bear fruit. "Keep"/φυλάσσω/phulassō/guard you. See Psalm 147:15. "The preaching of the Word in the pulpit has too often become the entertainment of the world on the platform". Loved this study, Dr. Bagwell! Thank you so much for doing these!
Please pray for me. I have gotten very confused going to a Jesus only denomination. They would teach the Trinity doctrine is a doctrine of men that started with the Roman Catholic Church
