Idk why but watching Alonso fend off Hamilton with everything he had just so his teammate would have a chance to win the race just gives me chills. I was actually getting all misty eyed rewatching that battle today. You don’t see that in F1 these days. Usually it’s everyman for themselves because of how cutthroat the sport is. We will all remember Ocons first win but we will remember it more for Alonso’s absolutely EPIC defense.

Kind of feels like it was the worst possible driver for Lewis to have to overtake. Alonso is just such a savvy veteran.
This season is something F1 fans were waiting for long time. Title fight , proper midfield fight, chaos, drama on / off field..can not wait for the second half of the year!!!

Idk why but I feel like Fernando was like a dad to Ocon this race. Helping him get the victory. But also because Fernando won his first race here as well
My favorite thing is the Alonso knew how much his defense would mean for the team, and more importantly Ocon. He even said in another interview he was doing it for Max as well. The fact that he could even think about that while battling is insane.
Even the other drivers want Hamilton's reign to end, even if it is to another team

And it was most probably a coincidence imo with the pride shirt issue with FIA. And from what I have read the problem with pride shirt during National Anthem was a issue brought by the Government rather than FIA but I am not sure.

How can anyone watch this and not smile the whole time? What a day for Esteban! What a day for Alpine! What a day for Fernando! Masterfully executed by all involved in a car that should not be on the podium. Onwards to 2022!

@@thedeamonmeteor69420 Pierre had the same thing last year, race incidents allowed him to fight for his win against a McLaren, this year was Ocon against Vettel in the Aston Martin.
This proves to me, as it should anyone who thinks otherwise, that Ocon deserves his seat. He fought hard, gave it everything and didnt buckle under pressure. He did his job and took himself not only a podium but a win. Same for Perez and Gasly last season. These guys taking wins from epic feats is impressive and truly deserving.
Alonso has that aura around him, like MS had, what an era of drivers. Pure class.
To think that, before Gasly, there was a 24 year gap between French GP wins... and then Ocon happens to clinch the Hungarian GP lol

Then there was Olivier Panis who won with a French car (Ligier) in Monaco 1996 - which is basically France.

Alonso should became Alpine/Renault's team principal after he retires. I truly think he can become one of the greatest strategists ever.

Team principal is all about management. Toto for example is basically useless during the race, offering zero input to the Merc strategy.

@@blazkify A lot of his former race engineers have commented that Alonso has natural leadership qualities. Rob Smedley (Alonso's race engineer during his F3000 days and Massa's race engineer at Ferrari) used to say that Alonso amalgamates the team because he has a clear understanding of what needs to be done. His former Ferrari race engineer has echoed the same sentiments.
The amount of joy I felt knowing a French driver in a French team with a French engine won a grand prix, it's been a while

This is an iconic moment of Fernando passing the torch to Esteban, who I'm sure will be driving even better for the second half of the season... and because of this, I suspect Alpine will net fifth in the WCC.

Fernando is really livening up F1. First the Silverstone Sprint race and now bringing back the memories of the 2007 rivalry at Hungary. Best season in a long time. He’s a legend for sure!

yeah looks like, but lets see, last word still not spoken, because according to FIAs own fuel flow measurement data there should be at least 1.44 liter. on the other hand, aston did not parked the car on its spot which is already against regulations. i personally think, while calculating the fuel, they just didnt taken into considiration to fight for the win till last round and vettel probably didnt listen to any "advices" while having a possible chance. ,-)
@@fatfrankthepeteacher4535 i wouldnt call them clowns, for many other things but not for this. FIA should and i think must check the fuel if someone does not park the car on its chosen spot, especially if the spot is just below the podium!
It's amazing how Aston Martin and Alpine are improving since Bahrain. They are meant to be leading those battles we saw today. Wish we could see Vettel and Alonso fighting for a win this year still. ESTEBAN OCON IS A GRAND PRIX WINNER !

What a history with this track! Fernando in 2003 with the Renault and Ocon now in the Alpine-Renault. Congrats on the win it was well deserved
Alonso and Hamilton showed why they are two legends, why they are ones of the greatests drivers of all time. Lot of drivers on the grid can learn a lot with this battle, including Max.
I don't get why in the comments there are always people to downplay Fernando's achievements and talent for glorify Lewis, the opposite too ( that's also work with Seb ). Can't we just appreciate the fight, love and admire these two great champions of this sport ?

En esa carrera demostro fernando ser mejor que hamilton porque hamilton con el mercedes petronas con drs y bateria al 100% no lo pudo pasar en 10 vueltas y decia hamilton por radio que necesitaba mas potencia y toto con cara de vete a la mierda si no lo pasas con el mercedes quedate en tu casa
@@esborillex6982 para nosotros que somos españoles queda muy bonita esa historia, y sobretodo para Alonso. Pero él mismo dijo la realidad cuando terminó la carrera. Hamilton estaba cometiendo los mismos errores en las últimas 3 curvas que le impedían salir rápido en la recta de inicio, con tomar bien la última curva Hamilton lo habría pasado sin problema. Esto mismo lo dijo Alonso.

I know that this weekend was rather forgettable for nearly half of the grid…. This has to be the coolest race and most emotional race that I have seen since jumping on the F1 Bandwagon…. Congratulations, Esteban, Alpine, Fernando (Happy 40th) and of course for George Russell and the relentless fighting spirit of Williams! Many wholesome moments to go around. What a way to send us into the summer break!
I don't think there is anyone on Earth who could have defended as hard and as long as Alonso did with an inferior car and older set of tires. Such an amazing drive and performance by the magical Alonso and Ocon! Bravo Alpine Team!!
Congrats for Alpine, but I Want to remember one guy called Hulkenberg: he retired in 2019, in 2020 Renault obtained 3 podiums, and this year a win. Imagine what this guy would have done if he had continued in F1

Probably the same was he did holding off schumacher for 11 laps at the 2005 San Marino GP. If Alonso can keep back a much faster Schumacher at his peak with reduced rev engines, he can hold off anyone.

Rough season? He outqualified Alonso like 5 times in a row. And finished in the points over and over again. And got a 3 year contract extension!
@@zackfreeman3985 What are you talking about ? Fernando has outqualified him for 5 in a row before this GP. Oocon literally outqualified Alonso the first 3/4 races and that´s it. Ocon didn´t have a single point for 4/5 GPs in a row before the British GP.
Yep chassis tuned by alonso is the better one. Just like after bottas got hamilton chassis
