+1 on your comments re Warner/Discovery. Football, rugby union and cricket have all gone behind paywalls with a resultant drop in participation, it's not a sensible model.
In addition to the difficulty of attracting casual viewers who may become ardent cyclists and hard-core fans, the paywalls eliminate the shared experiences that we have the opportunity to enjoy with one another. If the World Cup or Super Bowl were behind paywalls the potential audiences would plummet. The Tour and other premier events should remain on the cable networks that we already pay for, absent this additional financial barrier.
Councils charging exorbitant fees for poorly maintained pitches is why numbers have declined in football. If you're game's called off due to the weather you don't get a refund. Clubs have folded by the thousands because of it. Cricket's biggest problem is it's no longer played in state schools. And folk no longer want to spend 9 or 10 hours travelling and playing on a Saturday either.
Very Sad to hear about 2025 being the last year for TdF on UK Terrestrial TV. I have watched the highlights package there every year since the days of Indurain: July will not be the same 😞
Yes but that isnt the point. If someone wants to casually start watching a sport, it's unlikely they are going to start a paid subscription just to dip their toes in.
Cycling coverage has long been behind a paywall in the US. While a Peacock subscription is extremely affordable for Tour de France coverage at around 8 USD per month, it does make it difficult for non-cycling fans to get into the sport. That said, there are other significant barriers to entry for cycling in the US. The UK has a rich cycling history and I hope this change doesn’t negatively impact that legacy.
Formula 1's growth has exploded despite being increasingly behind paywalls. Seems to me the sport realized fans are interested in the athletes' stories and ignited fan interest with their "Drive to Survive" series. Yes, cycling has a weak sauce version. Also, World Tour rights seem to be a mess-we yanks subscribe to three paywalls if we want to get all the main World Tour events.
Except you can watch full highlight of the Qualifying, Sprint and full GP Races on Channel 4. There is no information suggesting ITV will even do highlights of the Tour.
Connor’s comment's about hiding pro cycling coverage behind a paywall are spot on… I hope not, but I suspect It will probably add to the demise of cycling in the UK… You only have to look Golf and how that has declined amongst the younger generation since the 90’s… Past BBC and ITV coverage of Golf Tournaments used to be freely available, with additional programmes like pro-celebrity programmes and pro/am matches keeping it interesting and more accessible. This resulted in a boom during that period, particularly amongst younger players…. Since then however, most of the big tours and Tournaments have gone pay to view, and…… it may only be a coincidence, but there has been a marked downturn in the demographic and uptake at grass roots/Junior level in many Golf Clubs, resulting in declining player numbers and many Clubs closing.. …. Please let’s not see the same thing happen with cycling… :-(
The TdF on Channel 4 inspired me to take up cycling and follow it. What non cycling fan is going to watch it now and be inspired? Well, I certainly won’t be signing up for Discovery. As someone with two young kids and spending a great deal of time outside I can’t justify paying. I’m probably one of many who dip in and out of the odd race when I can. Who has time to sit in front of a tv for 5-6 hours day in day out for a stage race or even week in week out for the classics?
You said the fastest race with more than 2000m of climbing was Tour of Austria stage 1 but that is not correct. If you look at the riders strava data it shows the stage was around 173km and 43km/h.
In the same way, so do all those stats. A rider who gets selected more is going to have way more chance to ride the furthest, the quickest and get more winds.
I am sorry mate... but Discovery is ruining cycling on TV in the UK! Not only is it hidden behind a paywall... it is even hidden for people who DO pay! The loss of GCN+ and the move to this mess of a sports network has put cycling, especially womens cycling, back by at least 5 years. I have Discovery+ because I really want to watch racing; but bloody hell they make it hard work. If I had ANY alternative I would take it. I do not care about all the other tat they have available, yet I have to scroll through a crap load of snooker and skiing to find the thing I actually want to watch.
Shouldn't the manufacturer title be wins divided by teams sponsored ? Specialized sponsor so many teams it would be embarrassing if they didn't have the most wins on aggregate.
Non cycling fans will stumble upon it because they have Max and need something to watch. New fans aren’t watch free over the air TV. That audience is old and dying out.
What a disaster for cycling as the sport is already viewed as an old man minority sport. What about real young fans male and female who have parents who don’t want to pay for yet another subscription. Also ITVs commentators are at times more relatable. Warner Brothers/Eurosport have done nothing to promote cycling here in UK. Recently attended London 3 day where was that televised? Before their involvement in Eurosport this was televised on that channel.
someone stole my 5k bike a couple of months ago the police in bristol are not interested n in jailing the culprit even though they know him now the tour the France will go pay per view I'm done with the world of cycling.

I know this isn’t my battle, but you did ask: Pronunciation not pronounciation. Fiancée with the accent over the first ‘e’. ‘badly’ not ‘bad’ (although this is more a figure of modern speech). meant instead of mean.
@@rob-c. thanks, actually the first time learning about pronunciation (seems weird because of pronounce being spelled with -ou, tho not a native speaker). I am, however, aware of acute accent of e, just don't know how to spell it on PC (the more important thing to me here seemed the two e-s instead of one); I'd say I see "bad" in the context where "badly" is more appropriate a looot. Might be due to mostly talking to people who speak American English tho. Appreciate an actual constructive post instead of hating-for-the-sake-of-hating the other dude was doing.
For you, what was the best moment in this year's season?
Not a moment, but a fact - the body count could have been higher. Thankfully, it wasn't.
definitely not the 5 second hill climb recap

You guys do great work, cheers
It's Dominka Włodarczyk on screen when you talk about Chiara Consonni moving over to Canyon Sram ;-)
Great rundown Connor well done buddy really easy to follow.. well done.. 😊 Pete 🚴🏻👍😃

Is Connor's shirt featuring that aero backpack fairing thing? Is Jayco now pronounced with a soft J, perhaps like Jogging?
WBD do a fantastic job with their cycling coverage. And you even get to see Manon on there from time to time.

Same in Europe, and even months later you can't even find full stages of the Tour de France on RUclips!
The "manufacturers" should be based on wins/ team supplied.
so Colnago with UAE?
Damn! I thought we'd get some action of Iserbyt kicking in Nys's wheel having lost to him.
Yeah the clip would have helped considering Conner said he stamped on an “opponent”, rather than an “opponent’s bike” 😅
Didn't catch that song 2 might have been chosen because of the meme of Wout finishing second.
Why does Warner brothers keep on ruining everything
"Illy Isbett" your pronunciation is awesome!🤣
Wout Van Aert doing daddy duties!!! Go WVA!!!!
SBS in Australia has the rights for the TdF until 2030 so free to air until then at least !
Wonder if you could caption the winners names of races. Lot of new names (to me) and in languages that I don't know.
Kudos from philippines🇵🇭

Is Monaco going to be big enough to store all the camels' worth of Pogi's UAE comp? And a nice round ZERO tax, right?
Which three races was Eli Iserbyt excluded from?
