It's a beautiful bike. I can only imagine the ride. You've inspired me to 'make' a fixed gear out of an ol' Univega frame. Can't afford a new, 😢 'real', fixed gear.
Hi Zach, glad to you riding straps again i run clipless mostly, but fitted strap again on a couple of my bikes Try Restrap diagonal strap You place your feet in at an angle and when you straighten your foot,it naturally lock in to the strap The straps are bolted to the pedal, made from recycled seat belts, eco and last for years UK company so maybe an online purchase
I'm not sure the switch to TIG was because it was cheaper. It also results in lower weight and restricts geometry less. Every single cheap department store bike in the UK up to the 1980s had lugs. It's just how they were made. And whether it was chicken or egg I don't know but Reynolds 531 can't be welded so you had to use lugs or fillet brazing. Of course people still like lugs, nothing wrong with that, especially if shiny!
People don't realize just how good Wabi is, and I don't even own one. Excellent thoughts on Wabi, they're a great shop and know their shit. Love that they are local to me in a day of franchises and "big" name stores
Wabi Special now is specced about same as other errand bike except full mudguards. Low gearing - check, fatty tires - check, front basket (albeit smaller) - check. So I guess Zach could have only one bike instead.
I would do the same. Wabi bicycles, fortunately, happen to be pretty nice. Not exactly inexpensive on the one hand. On the other, who would ever want a Kent Thruster? (Sounds like a p0rn star, lol).
the reason why it's harder to get into those straps is because the pedal profile on the velo orange pedals isn't slanted. the way regular bmx pedals are slanted makes it so much easier to get into straps because your foot naturally slides into the straps if you put your foot on the slanted part of the pedal.
Wabi Classic owner here in NYC with broken streets on 28s. 28mm tires are super comfy on a steel bike, even good on light to medium gravel. Even 25s are good for rough roads. If you want to go off-roading all the time, maybe 35mm or wider. I have some videos about tire width on my channel.
wider tires will always be faster and more comfortable. If you're having clearance issues try 28's, they're good enough, and maybe try running slightly lower pressures
@@roguecode2354 you don't need crappy roads to benefit from wider tires, slight imperfections on the road makes it worth it to run wider tires. You may benefit from thin tires in a velodrome with wood flooring where the imperfections are minimal.
I have question. What's it called when your foot touches the front tire when peddling? Sometimes I clip my foot on the front tire and get a mini heart attack when taking sharp turns. Is this bad and should I change my frame?
It's called "toe overlap". Quite common but particularly annoying on a fixed gear. I don't think you need a new frame but you do need to be careful. Maybe you could try shorter cranks if you aren't already on 165s.
Nah we’re just kind of tired about hearing the same thing about wabis for like 10+ years. I like his videos because I like steel practical bikes. But all the Cinelli bianchi hypebeasters probably feel different.
Why does somebody hate this guy ? I mean do u guys notice his video placement, background, sounds & editing satisfying? It's so satisfying that I always watch his video before I go to sleep.
I think it's because all his videos seem like a wabi commercial for the most part, but I have gotten a lot of good info from his channel about stuff like gearing
Bro, all Zach does these days is Wabi content. I understand that he's sponsored by them, but there's only so many times you can listen to the phrase "purple special with chrome lugs" before you get tired of it. Like, WE GET IT BRO! It's a good bike, but you don't have to make 25 videos about it!
maybe your old bike rides were too short! i am in boston and its not hot (it is humid) i probably gulp down 1 L if i'm going 15+ miles. most of my rides are pretty short, at best 6 miles to get places, but on longer rides i need water!
I got it what you tried to communicate on fixed gear bike, i like Wabi but the world is changing fast since US legalization of Ebike in 2020, nowadays ebike is everywhere. I can’t commute 5 days roundtrip /365 days on fixed gear or any regular bike, my days off are for recuperating from constant exhaustion from riding regular bike. With Ebikes sky is limit, it is the future and no turning back. They cost less than Wabi and some can get like 40ah battery for under $1k Ton of ebikes everywhere in Venice beach, SF, and of course NYC. Just my 2 cents. Great channel always. Best wishes to all.
hello sir zach, may I know where I could contact you? I have a specific problem in my bike and i can't really find answer for it on the net that specifically tackles fixie
No bicycle is collectible. No bicycle is going to increase in value. So, it they make steel bikes with these lugs, makes no difference if they are chromed or painted.
Zach will eventually start to love gears and brakes, just you wait. His close minded cult mentality is so repulsive, and I used to be a little hipster like him.
Wow this is definitely fresh content bruhzzz I literally polished lugs on a vintage bianchi with a Dremel and autosol? They sold u some bs son I still watched 👀

Wabi's gonna make him do this til he's 90.
*whispers* til he’s 90

Hm, so the lugs are polished steel, not chrome?
Do you check wheel trueness and spoke tension? How about building a wheel set?
Love the bike, wish they made a geared version

Your daily dose of Zach Wabi shilling.
Thunder or special? Looking to get one pretty soon
What tire pressure you running?
bro we this many times 😂
i had the same issue you have with hold fast. Switch to Ynots and problem solved.
Laser pointer on the bar tape. I'd go with black or brown smooth soft leather, no stitching.
Cool bike, but i could get a colombus frame handcraft just for me for less that any wabi frame lol
chat does wider tires on a track bike really make that much of a difference. I'm trying to talk myself out of buying another frame
It does but the slightest difference. There's a reason why Olympic track cyclists use thin carbon wheels

depends if you ride on crappy roads, wider tires are not always faster like GCN says

No, that's normal. Just make sure you backpedal a bit before you steer, so as to avoid the front wheel touching your foot.
its called Toe Overlap. Very common on track bikes, just a part of the geometry. Skilled riders get around it and just ride with it
@@dannybodros5180 that is not how it works on fixed gear
@@roguecode2354 You're right, sorry. It's one of the many reasons why I don't ride fixed.

That's because all he does is talk about Wabi. It's fucking boring mate.
How many views do you have? I have zero.
Great Vid! I've heard someone post the special can fit 35mm slicks is this true?

Nah bro, your spokes are Rusty - not bronze colored
Basket? ON A FIXED GEAR? No bro. No! Minus 90 fixie points.
Gary is not a girls name?
I'm convinced no other person out there rides a Wabi. Out of Crust,Surly Mash, State, why would they. There's 0 brand identity and character.
Nice try, Wabi.
1 view in 1 minute. Bro is falling behind 😅
oof
and this is how to lose the respect of your audience
tbh I like your channel alot but wabi is just overpriced tbf

At 63yo, still ride fixed (Bianchi Super Pista) with no brakes. Simple, very lightweight, and so much fun!
Wow this is definitely fresh content bruhzzz

yep on that bs
you dont have to try and justify using a ugly black stem that goes with nothing on that bike na din all honesty ruins the look .Its nitto just say it.
