    It fitsjust perfect on You go to my head, that should be the only way of playing it. For some reason I never really enjoyed playing or listening to this song, from now on it might be my favorite song lol. Many thanks Isaac!

    Thank you so much for this one! I was watching that video (the RUclips algorithm for my feed is generous with Barry videos lol) and this move jumped out to my ear as the particularly beautiful phrase near the end of That Secret Place. There are so many ways to move the dominant into the altered in this language. Love how he just started smashing the keys at the end of that video. Real funny dude

      Adding a thought here, those triads move through the first 3 notes of the “c dim half whole” scale (c, db, eb triads). I wonder if you could continue to go around and explore the diminished scale more in this context. I’ve found a few “Barry-esque” moves for this same kind of situation (regular V7 to alt) by sliding a few voices along the paired dim scale. Very pretty stuff in this harmonic territory

      @Jack Hopkins one of my all time faves, eye wateringly beautiful. I wish I could find the changes or a lead sheet or something! I found one for Nascimento and it has become one of my favorites.

    I learned so much from this video! This move has a really unique color that adds a lot of beauty to a 5 chord. Looking forward to practicing this in as many tunes as I can!

      you are EXACTLY right. And now BH lives in NIca's house, where she put up Monk at the end of his life.

    This movement is just so beautiful, thank you Isaac. In one of Barry Harris' videos, maybe in The Hague, he talks about the 'desceptive cadence' (I wish I spelled it right). Can you please talk about this or refer me to one of your existing videos on this? I thank you once again, your videos are like gold to me.

    Do you know what "Erik's Scale" is? I saw it mentioned on the "Barry Harris Videos" channel, but I can't find any lessons on it anywhere. Thanks for the content!

    Are you talking about the video where he plays ‘My Devotion’? If not he does a very similar thing there. And by the way it’s a gorgeous version of that tune.

    Again an excellent lesson, Isaac! This move sounds great. I was thinking - for symetry reasons - a smilar move downward instead of upward targeting the Fmaj could also sounds nice: that would be Bb A G C#-6/F# and than resolving to F (=C6/F), applying the same principle: Half step, whole step, half step, half step, but just the other direction. What do you think?

    • @isaacraz
      @isaacraz  3 года назад

      I must try this! I think that is exactly what BH wants us to do: find our own version. I may steal that! thanks...

    Quick question: How does the 6/13 come into play on a minor 7th chord within the diminished 6th concept? For example, an E natural on a G minor 7th chord within the context of a 2-5. It is not from the Bb major 6 chord or any of its borrowed diminished notes. Maybe the answer is right in front of me and I'm missing it!

    • @isaacraz
      @isaacraz  3 года назад

      Great question! I think there are a couple of ways. you could look at it as a F6 (like a 'sus') with a "borrowed diminished", or a plain ol' Gm6 sound

    I’d have never thought of this (again!!) I wondered if some contrary motion could be applied to this move and came up with the same 4 chords in your C7 example but moving the bass down from E to C. So it goes C/E - Db/Eb - Eb/Db - Dbm6/C. I think you’ll like it.

    • @revdeandawg

      That is VERY interesting! Gonna get into that descending move too.

    You may have been a good student but as a teacher.... I wasn't able to figure where to insert the progression, cause you never show exactly, what the progression is replacing, like the before and after. It would help if you could play in time, the simple score version and the possible substitutions. Just curious, why do you keep looking at the camera ? You seem to indulge in mistakes every time you do it.
