Mr Scary came to be because as George said Don wasn't hitting the vocals so he reworked the guitar to make it an instrumental. Turned out to be a defining piece of George Lynch history.
I feel like it's a payback from George as he didn't get the chance to do an instrumental song in under lock n key album (which he almost did in the hunter song but George finds that it's more suitable to have vocals on it)
No there weren't lyrics for it. George had been trying to get another instrumental for a couple of years. He wanted the hunter to be an instrumental at first Don said that one was to slow for it
@TommyG0709 it’s not that Don couldn’t hit the vocals, I don’t think that was the issue. According to Don, he said the track was too busy and there was a lot going on.. so he said to George ‘it might as well just be an instrumental.’
That instrumental is so important to any guitar player that was influenced by 80s rock. Its a monolith of twisted dark tones and 🎶🎶🎶 notes. Freaking love George lynch
I've always loved the tone of George Lynch's guitar, and his ability to do vibrato so cleanly and consistently. It's his signature sound that you can't find anywhere else.
In my opinion not a bad song on this album. George Lynch is one of my favorite guitarist. Years ago my friends band lead singer was Oni Logan and he ended up joining Lynch Mob. Wicked Senation was a great song check it out. Also I like your sweatshirt Go The U.
@@nahnotsomuch2292 No he formed his own band afterwards called Violets Demise and recorded and album but was never released. He was on a hiatus for a while after that then reconnected with Lynch Mob years later.
One of my favorite pieces from one of my favorite guitarist! BTW...there are some videos out there of him playing this in studio and even some tutorials on how to play this piece by George lynch himself!
There are plenty of live versions of Mr scary you could have used. Without a doubt one of my favorite tracks by them. I love how they used Mick and Jeff to lay down the structure that allowed George to go off.
You nailed it again!. Read the title and my guitar just magically appeared in my hands again. Love Georges playing, even though it is light years beyond my abilities. "Paris Is Burning" (live in Berlin, December 1982) from the 83' Breaking the chains album is a absolute must listen.
Every single video I watch from you guys: Alexis: bobbing along to the music, getting into it. Burch: Bursting from the excitement of sharing the music he loves.
I recommend another one of George's instrumental tracks, "I Will Remember". It's a very chill track but it has great melodicism and is quite beautiful. It also has a great solo. It's a very underappreciated piece!
I never thought of this as a "Halloween" type song, but now that you guys did; I see it! Thanks! George Lynch is easily my greatest influence as a guitar player! He was so unique, had an amazing sound on this record in particular.
This was great. There's a new Rock band to check out though! You HAVE to check out 'The Warning - DISCIPLE Live at Teatro Metropolitan CDMX 08/29/2022'. So cool that three sisters have actually put Rock music back on the map from their own inspirations. You won't be disappointed. I was amazed. I miss my Rock music that sounds good.
This is such a great album, Lynch was absolutely on fire during this period! I finally got to meet him at a small show in Denver about 5 years back. He is the reason I picked up a guitar almost 40 years ago. Dude was super nice. My inner 10 year old was flipping the f out. 😂
Just listening doesn't have the same impact as watching those fretboard acrobatics. I was 15 when I started playing. Was 1985. I got to learn to all these songs when they were brand new.
I've played guitar since I was 16. When I heard this . What the hell ! 57 now. Still the same reaction. Till this day I've never seen anyone try to play this. Believe me I've come close. Also he's got 2 tracks going on at the same time. Its still bad ass to this day .let her listen to Diary of a madman. And look at the lyrics while you're listening to it. Haunting. Not an easy song to do either.
George Lynch knows how to make a note hang. To me, he sustaining notes were more iconic than his speed. He's right up there with Gilmore with letting a note go and go and go. Different styles, but the same idea.
If you want another incredible George Lynch solo, check out When Darkness Calls by Lynch Mob. The song ends with a 2 minute long, "freeform" guitar solo by George.
You need to check out George's work on the Hearin' Aid Project. George goes off and there are pile of other guitarists shredding it up. Great vocals as well.
There is a vid of George playing this on his purple ESP. Sitting in a chair. It's the second vid, I think, and it's 4:48. Played exactly like the record. It's from an instructional vid, I think.
If you think that was dark, you should listen to Dokken - Without Warning. Intense. As if that wasn't enough, the solo for the next song Tooth and Nail is just incredible, killer. Back then that band was on fire.
I met Wild Mick Brown before, when he was with Lynch Mob, he was so damn cool. Met George also, he was warming up before the show and gave us a free concert!
Great reaction and song choice Burch!! I really enjoy your videos and that you share these amazing songs with Alexis. I hope you can react to Fastway's two songs from the Trick or Trear (1986) soundtrack, "After Midnight" and "Tricj or Treat". Cheers!! 🎃🎃🎃❤️❤️
I love fast shredding guitars, but I mostly don't really get into the instrumentals. Most of them just don't hook me in, then there's Mr. Scary. The whole band is just throwing down and there is so much groove in the song. FANTASTIC!
Great reaction. You don't see too many Dokken reactions. If you go back to Slaughter, Up all night is great too. Also, Danzig! Anything by them would be well appreciated.
Can't wait for you guys to do Macalpine!!! So looking forward to that! On one of his albums his backing band was Billy Sheehan and former Journey drummer Steve Smith. I think that album was called Edge of Insanity. George Lynch was a guest star on his next album Maximum Overdrive. George was brilliant!!! Easily one of my favorite 80's guitarists. I really enjoyed you Halloween themed episodes. I'm with Burch... Halloween all year!!!
@@martinkasper197 I would have to agree. His genius was not meant for song and band play. He was an instrumentalist and should be regarded as such. I'm in complete agreement with your post.
Outstanding and underappreciated guitar player. Here's an odd tidbit. George Lynch and Michael Sweet from Stryper made some collab albums under the name Sweet & Lynch. Definitely a fun listen there.
Always LOVED this song !!! Great choice .. Neat thing for me is , ("Back In The Day" ) 🤭 (LOL) when I played Keys & Drums, we had 3 guitarists and they all could pull this off ... split up sections when we played it live. You really should do a reaction on Don Dokken's solo album and also the BEST band ever : DREAM THEATER !!
You guys have to work in a reaction to “Darkest Side Of The Night” from Friday the 13th: Jason Takes Manhattan before the end of Halloween. They had two different audio version on here with the movie dj into. The other audio version are the regular studio version.
You should do Tony Mcaplines Tears of Sarah. He has george lynch play on it with him trading solos. Vinne Moores NY NY is another good one to do. From Minds Eye Albumn.
I was curious, have you guys ever done cheap trick? Because those are the first band that I saw in concert when I was 11 years old I won tickets on the radio.
George will always be on of my fav guitarist up there with Stevie Ray Vaughn and this song is amazing, best Dokken song ever.. Except I wish you guys would do In My Dreams witch has awesome solo in it yet everyone does Dream Warriors which is a horrible song imo.

So glad you guys reviewed it. George is amazing. May I recommend Heaven Sent off Back For The Attack or Wicked Sensation?
Thank you for your interest in playing boc! I saw the black and blue concert in 1980 in mpls wow mindblowing
How do you select which videos to react to?
@@randywu9412 I like watching the reaction to the music I listen to,60s 70s and 80s classic progressive, hard and metal
No one ever sounded like George, thats for sure. Completely unique phrasing, tone...just one of the very best ever.
Agree with that statement! One of the all time greats.
Mr Scary came to be because as George said Don wasn't hitting the vocals so he reworked the guitar to make it an instrumental. Turned out to be a defining piece of George Lynch history.

George Lynch is definitely in the top 10 Guitarist 🎸 of all time 🎸💯🤘🏽🤙🏽
I totally agree. George Is phenomenal. His leads are legendary
Agree with that, I still love his melodic technical solos 35 years later! How to play with great chops and still have great melodic feel. Very unique!
That perfect guitar sound, those two last records that he did with Dokken were so good
George created the "Gothic Octave," and it's all over this track. He's such a beast.
I don't always listen to Mr Scary, but when I do, so do my neighbors
In my opinion not a bad song on this album. George Lynch is one of my favorite guitarist. Years ago my friends band lead singer was Oni Logan and he ended up joining Lynch Mob. Wicked Senation was a great song check it out. Also I like your sweatshirt Go The U.
Wicked Sensation is awesome. Also love his work on Sacred Groove album, especially Tierra del Fuego!

When Alexis said “We’ll that’s dumb” might have been the cutest thing I have ever seen😂Another gray reaction to another great song ❤️🍺🤟🏼🤘🏼

Love the Headbanger's Ball shirt!
I realize this was 9 months ago, but for a George Lynch instrumental, check out Tierra Del Fuego. It's beautiful.
:grins: You were psychic this time - I was going to recommend this one after your Dokken peek ... and here we are :)
Great tune! Love the shirt Burch! 🤘
George came up at the same time as Randy Rhodes and EVH. All three of them had their different style and sound.
George just surrounded himself with candles and skulls in the studio and went to town.
This is also the era when everyone was playing Bradshaw-modded Marshalls.
Hell yes!
You need to check out George's work on the Hearin' Aid Project. George goes off and there are pile of other guitarists shredding it up. Great vocals as well.
I believe that the skeleton guitar that Alexis mentioned was named Mr. Scary. I don't know what was first the chicken or the egg.
The skeleton guitar is called "Mom". Mr Scary is another guitar. A black one with a skull decal and some red "blood" splatters.
I love this one on Dokken's Beast from the East live album. I think it sounds even more menacing.
You've got to keep the set and continue your spooktacular series for another week. There are just so many good songs to cover.

This started out as a warm up exercise. LOL
It's hard to believe that George Lynch is not in the top 250 guitarist of all time he should be in the top 150
Considerimg that Rolling Stone put together that list , there are quite a few guitarist that weren't on that list that should have been.
He should be Top 5 alltime.
