Why Indonesia Spent $35 Billion on a New Capital

- Indonesia is building a brand new capital City. The project is set to cost over $30 Billion Dollars, and will transform the country's capital into a brand new City. In 2019, the Indonesian government announced that due to Jakarta facing so many infrastructure and environmental problems, that they would be building a brand new city nearly 1,000 miles away from Jakarta.
The project is set to be completed in 2024, with the entire transition of the government offices and Presidential Palace being completed by 2045. This project is truly incredible and will solve most of the key infrastructure problems Jakarta currently faces. If you enjoyed the video, consider subscribing.

I find it weird that Indonesias new capital is somehow cheaper than the administrative capital.
Males
Some corrections:
1. "To be completely submerged in 2050" is incorrect. Parts of North Jakarta would be submerged assuming nothing is being done about the problem, but it's still around 20-25% of the city. FYI population center of Jakarta has been shifting more to the south since a long time, and major projects has been underway in order to solve this issue.
2. Just like pollution, ground sink issue could be solved by simply eliminating groundwater extraction. However to solve this Jakarta need to massively upgrade its clean water supply capacity, which is in the list of major plans that is being executed/planned.
3. The place for the new capital isn't going to be on literal middle of rainforest jungle of Borneo. It's just beside a highway inbetween two major cities in East Borneo. Afaik that site is mostly ex-mining sites so by itself the threat to Borneo rainforest ecosystem is minor, I'm more concerned with materials that are going to be required to build the capital itself, as well as the future development surrounding it if the capital is successful.
4. Since it's not stressed enough, the capital would mostly be the administrative capital and the economic 'capital' would still be Jakarta. In fact, most of the people that would be relocated at first would be just civil servants.
Thank you for this, the claim it will be all submerged by 2050 is absolutely ludicrous
30 billion doesn't sound too expensive for a country with 1.5 trillion dollar economy.
Major correction for the videos.
1. The indonesian gov already had plan to move their capital since the 50's and not as recent as 2019 with palangkaraya as the biggest candidate. But indonesia is not a stable country at the time so the plan is shelved until 2019 when its resurfaced again.
2. Jakarta would not be abandoned since the central gov still heavily invest infrastructure project and business on jakarta such as the NCICD sea wall project to contain jakarta coast and transform it into a fresh water resevoire with the help of dutch architect and engineers.
3. while the natural disaster (Flooding, earthquake, etc) contributes for the reason to move the capital. the sole reason is to spread out indonesian economy into other area because the current situation is that the economy is stuck in Java island while the other island got left behid since the indonesian gov is becoming more decentralize. thats why they move it into Borneo/kalimantan instead of building it in java.
The point earthquake being a reason Indonesia moving their capital is incorrect though. In general northern part of Java Island is the safest place from earthquake on the island. even if earthquakes happens there it barely cause any damage to population due to low magnitude.
@@haikalmiftah2529 true, that jakarta haven't experience any big earthquake and quite safe compared to other indonesian cities. but the probability is not zero either.. the last time krakatoa erupt in 1883 is so devastating with 36000 victims, and we all know that krakatoa is not that far from jakarta. so, moving it capital to borneo is more safe because borneo is outside of the "ring of fire"
@@FuyatoB For correction, almost all of victims from Krakatoa eruption came from coastal area of Banten and Lampung provinces.
Yapp, Jakarta still be the largest city in Indonesia
Ayoo that’s again such a well edited video!

Thank you Arkive for discussing the new capital of Indonesia 🙏
Nusantara will become the most artistic city in Indonesia
I hope Nusantara will help Sabah Sarawak economy too in the future
I think it will create more trades in the area.
It just like Brunei does
Of course, Indonesia and Malaysia are allied countries. Hopefully, the relocation of the Indonesian capital to Borneo can advance the economy and infrastructure in Borneo. 🇮🇩❤️🇲🇾
Yeah like Singapore. The location closer to Jakarta makes their tourism flourish no wonder bahasa Indonesia is being used at Changi airport
@@RizTheUrbanExplorer actually they use bahasa melayu at Changi airport, since bahasa melayu (Malay language) is one of the 4 main languages in Singapore.. bahasa Indonesia and bahasa melayu looks similar since bahasa Indonesia is originally from Malay language
Actually the new location was not a virgin forrest it was a former mine concession in the past. It was partially replanted during Suharto time, hence the name.
Don't explain to punk axx

The main reason why our government moving the capital is because Java Island has massive population and it's contribute & dominate the most to Indonesia's GDP. Jakarta and Java's burden is too heavy. The Inter-Census Population Survey (SUPAS) in 2015 stated that 56.56 percent of Indonesians were concentrated on the island of Java. Jakarta sinking is such a joke, but apparently it could be true only in slums area, not the whole City. The poor people from poor villages (low quality people) keeps coming to Jakarta to get a job, but they can't afford houses to live and start creating slums area, these slums area is the major reason why Jakarta is often flooded and leads to sinking issue. Those low people throw garbage everywhere, they use groundwaters, they are stupid and hard to educate. But seems the government knows what to do, they will move the capital and wipe those slums area because it's quite threatening. Jakarta itself would always be a metropolitan city, they won't sinking at all.

t is good to hear someplace talking about land subsidence and not mis-characterizing it as sea level rise, as they do here in the USA
And why western media is always reporting indonesia moves new capital cuz jakarta is sinking? That not the point 😑😑😑
It's better for them to solve their school shootings tradition.
So that politcians can live in luxury.
Indonesian new capital is not really build on natural forest but industrial forest (eucaliptus trees) that government given last time for pulp industries. Now government wants it back for the new city. The plan is to change this industrial forest tree with native Borneo trees and high variety tree species. Let’s watch in near future 2024 how Indonesia fulfill their vision.
I hope this doesnt worsen the deforestation of the rainforest on Borneo.

Make a comparison between the future Jeddah and developed Dubai and the advantages of both, especially after the new Jeddah projects such as the Downtown Jeddah project, the slum development project and the Jeddah Tower project after the Public Investment Fund acquired a large percentage of them.
Jeddah and Dubai are the two most important economic cities in the Arabian Peninsula
The idea revolves around a comparison between comparative advantages and aspects of competition between them, such as:
1. Airport
2. Sea port
3. City landmarks
4. Entertainment venues
5. Archaeological and heritage sites
6. Markets and malls
7. The comparative advantage of each city.
8. Museums
9.Infrastructure such as metro trains, pedestrian roads, etc.
Does Jeddah have advantages that Dubai does not have that can be strengthened to compete with Dubai in tourism Economy?
In my opinion, Jeddah's strong advantage now is two
1. It is the gateway to the Grand Mosque for those coming for Hajj and Umrah

Idk why now this topic so trending rn
Plan of new capital is like 1-4 year ago news
Honestly that money could've been used in many ways to help the country instead of building anoter capital city

What are going to do with the poor people??? I doubt they will all relocate them...
The new city is only for government officials. Jakarta will remain a business city.

No one :
Every single western youtube videos about our new capital : It will destroy Jungle hahahahhahahahhahaha
2:58 just want to make some correction here, Indonesian New Capital Cities will not build just in a 4 years time, instead if you research it thoroughly and deeply, the Nusantara (the name of Indonesia's new capital cities, red) will going through major development phase which divided into 4 phase which span over 20 years into 2045. So, it will not become a "roro jonggrang" capital cities (an Indonesian folklore about history behind how Prambanan Temple -according the folklore- build only in a night by help of the genies).
Also regarding the land use, the current government itself has underlined that the most forest in the capital city region will not tear down for sake of the development, instead the government building only used almost 20% of the whole capital cities land. With that approach the city hopefully become a major example of future cities which easily access by 10-minutes walk, bicycle-friendly road, green and powered by green energy, electric vehicle and mass rapid transit.
Just some 2 cents from me for your video
Trusting what the current government says. You sir are human act like it and use your brain
It's a welcome idea to move the capital of Indonesia from the current location to a more geographical stable one. But it may suffer overcrowding by 2050 , given the current population of Indonesia of about 275m. Nigeria moved capital from Lagos to Abuja in 1991 and currently Abuja is being Lagonized (getting very populated with lots of slums) due the country's big population.
That could happen but if they made the capital to only host government institutions. Usually people move to cities for opportunities, so by limiting the opportunities in the new capital, there wouldn't be a surge of people flocking to the city. Another is that they would have strict zoning laws that prohibits new settlements.
THE TRUTH BEHIND THE MOVING MUCH BETTER YOU LOOK AFTER ANOTHER SOURCE THIS CHANNEL IS BIASED 🙏
Becos jakarta now days full of million motocycles controlling all majors road, surrounded by slum, very bad in drainage and sanitation system, over pumping of underground water for water supply
Actually Jakarta has nice European-style infrastructure built by former Dutch goverment.
Sadly almost all of them destroyed or remain abandoned since 1960s due to economic ruin at the time and the successor governor didn't bother to revitalize it.
That is literally the worst possible place to relocate the new capital to, not to mention an enormous environmental tragedy! 😡
Interesting video!
Another great vid
so what will they do with Jakarta after the capital is built? surely they have to continue suiting the needs of 10 million people
