Watching "What's My Line" episodes from the 50's and 60's (when I was a kid), I noticed how formal the people were, both in speech and appearance. Here, Carson in 1978 was noticeably more casual in his speech than just 15 - 20 years before. And today, as you point out, we can see a difference in the speech between modern talk show hosts and Johnny Carson. I don't think that it means society is going downhill. First mass media (radio, tv) and now the Internet and social media, have made us all much more familiar with the world around us and with each other that we dispense with many formalities. That's my theory anyway, and I'm sticking to it. But I do agree that Johnny Carson was more interesting to watch than today's talk shows!
This is why as kids we nagged our parents to stay up late and watch Carson. You never knew what was going to happen and it was fun to watch. Our parents asked why a kid would want to watch an adult late night show. Carson was still a kid at heart is maybe why. Peace out
I loved Carson more than either of my parents, but after my dad died, my mom would watch Rowan and Martin's laugh-in with me. She was something of a prude, so when she would laugh at those skits, I was thrilled to see that she could let down her hair a little.
Johnny Carson was a master at "milking" any moment in the show to produce laughs. His reaction to the animals on the show was pricless and provided the audience with some great comedic moments.
I’ve seen most of these clips several times before, many when they were live. I laugh just as hard now as I did 40 years ago. Carson just had that special “it factor”that no one will ever approach. Pure comedy genius.
Loved Johnny Carson, he was indeed the King of Night Television. God bless his soul always, he is sorely missed 🙏🙏. Love all his shows for 30 years since I watched them all. And no one compares to him, Johnny Carson is IRREPLACEABLE. Thank you Johnny, for entertaining us for 30 years. You are unforgettable. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️👍👍👍🙌🙌👌👌👌👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏
I loved Jim with Marlon Perkins on Mutual of Omaha. I got to know his wife a wild life artist. She went along on his travels. Painted the animals she saw. I have several of her paintings
Jim Fowler was a good sport. Some of the animals he brought on the Tonight Show had their moments, but Johnny having the great mind he did, could always turn one of the animal mishaps into comedy gold!
I think he would sit perfectly still, eyebrows raised, and make crossed eyes to look at the beetle with a "what the heck are you doing?" expression on his face. 😁
The teensy weensy little spider. Jim Fowler of Mutual Omaha's Wild Kingdom was one of my favorite featured gests on Carson. He always brought some of the most incredible animal exhibits along with him for show and tell that brought awareness to viewers for all of these amazing forms of wildlife that exist and live around our plaint earth. Though those critters did freak out Johnny and made him a bit uptight - it was as funny as it was interesting.
The Golden era of late night. I too wept on the last show. Carson was one of a kind they'll never be another like him. Thank God he lives on in RUclips.
when I watch these shows, or almost any of that time, I think: wtf did it needed to be "corrected"??? when I watch a today's show, I think: everything should be corrected. Johnny Carson #1
Johnny was so quiet & respectful - not like the jerks we have now. He was really interested In the animals. The ones nowadays make it all about them & yack all the time. I used to feel sorry for jack hanna as he tried to explain about the animals & the host/others would not shut up & listen 😡
I was watching that episode the night it was released with my Mom and I kept saying “it’s going to fly, it’s about to fly, they go to the highest point and take off, here it goes” and sure enough, bzzzzzzzzz....

I miss Johnny Carson. 💔 One of a kind and the best there ever was.
Jim Fowler died in May 8, 2019
At 89..may he rest in peace thanking God for his life. ..need more in the work of animals ❤❤❤
Omg Johnny Carson had a natural wit about him. I'm so glad I was lucky enough to grow up in the 70's.
You and me both ❤️❤️❤️
It has been said Johnny Carson was / is the absolute king of TV. i AGREE

I loved big Jim, he always got johnny.
So great!!
I just laughed just as hard as I did the very 1st time I watched this episode so many decades ago!!!😂😁🤣 There will never be another Johnny Carson!!!
Very funny. Best talk show host ever. Undisputed.
The first part of this was hysterical, as typical Johnny is. The second animal was very captivating. I miss the show so much.
I've been watching a lot of these videos with Johnny Carson.
Now I know why my parents were laughing late at night.
Carson was and always be the King of late night.
"Now I know why Marlin stays in the tent." Just as funny now as the first time I heard it.
I used to be thrilled in the late 60’s and 70’s when dad would allow me to stay up and watch Johnny with him. Seriously wish both were still with us.
Johnny had this Midwestern sensibility and humor about him that appealed to so many folks. He was the King of late night and still is.
It was so hilarious how petrified johnny was with that beetle moving towards his face 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Johnny was always A " Beatles " fan !!!!
Generational talent. We may never see another as classy and funny as Johnny Carson.
I loved watching Johnny Carson I loved when he use to read the Christmas letters from the kids
I have said it before: I don't know what "it" is, but Johnny had "it."
Clara Bow, the It Girl 😀
The It Factor.
It's Alive 🧟!

Johnny was so brave letting that beetle crawl up his arm.
He was the best of the best

His timing was perfection

I laughed out loud 😂🤣

Johnny was extremely funny with animals and was not scared to work with them
