So, I worked in the athletic dept during the RR/Stew transition and I can promise you that, from the inside perspective, what happened yesterday is all but unheard of. You rarely find anyone in the recruiting industry with even a fragment of integrity; that can not be overstated. It is the most disingenuous, morally bankrupt part of all of college athletics and that is EVERY single university in the land. Anyone that has ever even been around it will fully agree. What that team did the past few days and leading up to yesterday, was simply astounding. Of course it could be argued that they were in full self preservation mode but knowing the way Brown ran his administration for the entirety of of his tenure at WVU, I highly doubt that it was anything but just quality individuals, doing the right thing. One other note: Wren Baker is setting the standard incredibly high for how an athletic director should operate. He's one of the best in the business. People do not need to believe that but it's true. The man is more ethically and morally sound than any that I have ever been associated with.
Tulsa football staff keep their 2025 class together during their head coaching search. A few players did decommitt but not many. Tulsa announce their new coach yesterday.
Neal Brown worked to create a specific culture at WVU and to recruit players who valued that culture. I would think that the selling point to keep the players was that the culture would remain even when these coaches are gone. Wren Baker's hiring record at WVU shows that he believes in the same things that Brown does, and he will look for a coach with the same beliefs and philosophy that Brown has...someone who can and will maintain and build this family/team culture...but with more wins. I don't think a couple of the "favorites" for the position actually fit that mold.
I just hope that Galloway lives up to the hype unlike Jacolby Spells. We need a db that is really good again like Rasul Douglas. Also, losing Josiah Trotter to the portal really hurts cause I know that guy is an all-american talent. Wherever he goes he is going to shine I think.
Recruits are untapped potential. No one knows how they will work out. Look a Gallenger . He was all hyped up because he had a PSU offer. Average receiver at best and will never get close to his hype.
The one thing about bringing someone in is if they get on a roll and start winning games then say in two years who ever it is say they go 12 and 0 and nxt year they go 11 and 1 then you have to worry about some trying to get your coach and I know that's the name of the game but if that happens then we r write back were we was
Wren Baker is going to go down as one of our best hires ever. Also a class job by Neal and the staff. Neal is a tremendous person he just wasn’t a top quality big time football coach. We must do whatever we can to keep him as our AD. We can’t keep up with that Texas money.
Anyone think MAYBE these players know something we dont and they were told just dont say anything. We also got 1 that wasnt even on our board think maybe he knows something too?
That was my thought as well! Maybe they were clued in on who is the favorite or even the choice itself and just told to keep it on the DL until the deal is finalized... And if this is the case, they must have really liked what they heard!!! Gives a man some hope for the first time in a while about the future of the program!! I don't care who they pick... I just want a F'n winner yo!! 😁 LET'S GOOOOOOO MOUNTAINEERS 👏👏🏈🏀🇺🇸
To do what WVU done shows Wren & NB apparently are doing things the right way even though NB as HC didn't work out here like we & he had hoped & thought it would. It might even show that the players, having more inside info, know who the lead or leading candidates are for the HC job & like what they've heard, maybe?
So i hate sounding stupid but all with a new coach doesnt that mean he mostly brings in his own staff? So all this work may be for nothing for the current staff... is that correct?
So, are we thinking that Nicco is the starter next year no matter what if he stays? He has sat patiently for 2 years, and I believe truly loves WVU! He would be my pick, but the new coach may have his QB already picked out... Maybe someone they bring with them, or someone out of the portal. If that's the case I hope they at least give Nicco a fair shot at winning the job!
Marchiol and Burton will be in a competition, but a lot will depend on the new staff, the system, and how well the QBs can adjust to a new QB coach/system. This will be the third new one for both of them in three years. Wilkins has talent but may still be a year away from really pushing for time.
1 big surprise all the DB but 1 to small only had offers from smaller schools. Actually been like that every year and why WV pass defense been not good at all. Dont have a clue why WV cant get 4 star DB or even really good 3 star that was wanted by other bigger football schools. This problem continues. Look at Va tech they sign. 2. 4 star DB... Sure hope our new cosch can get a few good DB in the transfer portal an still shocked with our not good at all DB we only use a 3 man D line an no where near enough blitz packages to help them..... Yeah that explains why Leslie an Brown were sent down the road...
IS IT ME OR AM I EXAGERATING 😮. EVERY TIME JAMES FRANKLIN is Coaching it always 🤔 seems like the opposing Coach wants to BEAT HIM UP 👊 💥. That Maryland Coach was not happy after that game. Gave Franklin a Bear 🐻 Hug . Squeezed the life out of him..didn't want to let go.
I know we're congratulating the coaching staff on their recruiting efforts, but we'd be really remiss if we didn't give most of the accolades to the actual kids who stuck with us. Because at the end of the day, it's their decision. Think about it. 18 year old's, that have spent their whole lives playing football to get to a D-1 stage. Now, having to potentially risk all of it with a team that has NO head coach (and all of the assistants who will most likely be gone). Hats off to these young men for their commitments and sticking with us.
Where is the risk for today’s recruits other than moving expenses and making new friends? Unless WVU was their best offer they can enter the transfer portal if things do not work out and just move on. If all world is in front of them and see no playing time, no big deal just move on. So saying give these kids credit for coming to WVU one must first look at each kid’s circumstances. More than one thinks to their potential commitment
@Couz's Corner brother, I really need to talk to you privately. Is there an email address or somehow as a Perk Paying Member can I get in touch with you. It's pertaining to Mountaineer Paul... that's all I'll say here. Please tell me how to send you a text, email or however. Thanks Mike

Awesome comment. Thanks for that perspective.

That’s a great point.
That should do away with Rich Rod. He comes up very low on the integrity monitor!
I just hope that Galloway lives up to the hype unlike Jacolby Spells. We need a db that is really good again like Rasul Douglas. Also, losing Josiah Trotter to the portal really hurts cause I know that guy is an all-american talent. Wherever he goes he is going to shine I think.
I agree on both
Like to see Spells hit the portal and try somewhere like USF

But program would be in a better spot.

Thats just amazing....
let's f-ing go!

Yes
Let’s hope they know something that we don’t. Sounds to me that it is a coach whose team is still playing.

Let build this w WREN
Im actually excited..
Where did we rank nationality? In the 40's, 50's or 60's? I'm guessing high 40s to low 50s. Just curious.
41 per 247
Were inside top 50 like 49 I think
Excited about that 4-star QB from Mentor, Ohio
So i hate sounding stupid but all with a new coach doesnt that mean he mostly brings in his own staff? So all this work may be for nothing for the current staff... is that correct?
Couz! Can ya snoop and see what ya can find out on Gorge Howell From COL. His name just came up on some BOARDS.
I can try.
The price was right
The hire will be very important or these guys can hit the portal.

All depends on the new head coach, I personally see Nicco leaving, maybe back home to AZ

@ I hope so. Nicco should have been the guy this season.

WVU actually ended the day with 4- 4-Star recruits.
Awesome!
