Oh you’ll love this!!
As a British kid growing up in the 80/90s, mum (white British) would cook rice the same way, no rinsing, just put straight into cold water and slowly brought up to a boil on our horrendously slow electric hob. There it would sit until it almost resembled rice pudding, and drained off with a sieve. Back in the pan it would go where it was treated to a healthy tablespoon of MARGERINE! Stirred through it and then, oh I can still see it now, seasoned with SALT AND VINEGAR!
That is how we thought rice was prepared.
Woah. 😧

When I was growing up in Australia during the Eighties rice was prepared exactly as shown on this video 🤮 Luckily we are more civilised in 2024.

@@solangerodrigues5364 you're not wrong but when you cook rice the way you're saying it becomes sticky and mushy. I'm from Bangladesh and we drain away the water to prevent our rice from getting sticky and mushy. Rice water is starchy and when you cooked that all into the rice it becomes sticky. Now east Asian use chopsticks that's why they prefer sticky rice because it's easy to eat sticky rice with chopsticks. But us bangladeshis, indians and Nepali use our hands to eat rice so it's not a porblem for us if our rice are not sticky and they're separate from eachother. According to us our way of cooking rice is perfect, because the rice are non sticky, each of the rice grains are Individual and doesn't stick to each other.

@@HisNeverland 1. Put rice in pot
2. Wash the rice until water becomes clear
3. Depending on the number of cups of rice, the number of cups of water should be the same (2 cups rice = 2 cups water)
4. If you're Asian, the amount of water you put should be equal to the first line of your middle finger
@@HisNeverland First you rinse it with clean water, and then have 1-1 cup ratio of rice from water. Depending on what rice it is, you might need to add another cup or half-cup of water on it.
If you don't have a rice-cooker, just use a casserole and cook it with low heat for 15-20 minutes. When it boils over the excess water, lower the heat more and leave it for about 3 minutes before putting out the flame.
But DON'T remove it from the cooking-ware like you do with pasta. Because you can't since rice sticks on the cooking ware. Unless you put too much water on it and it becomes porridge-like.
And that's about it. Nothing too fancy.

Legit question, Im also asian. That way it is equal. I've seen a lot of people saying to just fill water up to the first line of the finger and it did not make sense to me. We all have different sizes of fingers! haha.
