I would have done dropped those parts a dozen times lol. Great video!
Thought the same thing. Deff not a job for a guy with essential tremor. Hell, even if the core was good for, oh, twenty watts, it'd still be a fumble fest ;-) 73 de W8IJN
That was great. nice QRP kit. can put on antenna or radio side. depending on type of antenna and or counter poise. small for SOTA use ! that is called Bi-feeler winding . never let red/green wire cross. now make same thing with t-140-43 or t-240-43 core wrap with red/black zip cord like #12 powerworx wire and can use on DC to stop RFI noise like on a solar MPPT controller. use 2. one one each side. solar PV input and Battery side keep close to controller. cleans up RFI noise on that MPPT you showed on amazon one that made RFI you showed . in case of 10 amp use #16 or #14 wire. get more turn's that way. Common Mode choke is great for DC power to block RF. I got one on back of my IC 7300 . 73's
That's awesome! I need a 10W one of these.
Yes you do
I think you would be ok at 10 watts. Worst case, change the wire for a larger gauge.
I love @N6ARA's Tiny Kits! I use the MiniSWR and CMC regularly for Sota Activations with my Penntek TR-35 and IC-705.
Nice job Mike!
My thoughts are: If you soldered first then cut the wires, you would have a better chance to burn off the lacquer and also have a better view of the joint rather than just seeing a blob of solder.
Gulliver wrapping toroid in the land of Lilliput! Sweet soldering skill gains! Awesome.
Mike, when you have too much solder, you can remove some of the solder with some solder wick.
Cool little project. This would make me crazy. I'm getting old man eyes - little things blur up close and moving them far away, you cant see the detail. So, thanks for zooming in.
So neat! Would love to see it in action! Would like like to pair it with my Kx3 and my k6ark end fed! I can see it at the radio and feed line for an end fed or between the antenna and the feed line for a dipole!
My immediate thought upon seeing this was, I need it ! 😳 when really it should be, I want it 😂
Looks great, I've save his site, he has lots of goodies there. :)
Nice job!!
Thanks!
Noice! Are you doing Onslow?
Looks like more fun than the average ham should be allowed to have
Ah yes, but I am not the average ham. Some would even say I'm not a real ham lol!
Hi Mike, KA9TII I received my Tiny CMC prize that I won from you today. Thank you. Question, was there supposed to be a snap-in case with it? If not, I'll just go to N5ARA's webpage and purchase one. Thanks again. It was a fun video.
I gotta question off topic. What do you think would be the best option for an base antenna in an apartment? I’ll be using my handhelds until my new radio comes in but I’m stuck and not sure what I should do or get?
You had me at choke
Nice. What is it?
Need one for 20 watts for the g90 !
Use some hot glue on that toroid, it will save you trouble later. Mechanical micro-phonics are a thing, not to mention it will save the wiring from breaking.
Is hot glue what you used to keep the torrioid in place?
Red Right Return...oh wait wrong hobby.
Legal Limit??😆😆
Have you actually measured the common mode impedance on each band? Truth is, there is no such thing as a choke that works equally well on all bands and even needs to be designed for the type of antenna it is to be used with. "It's not a "one size fits all" sort of thing.
Try to strip the lacquer of the wire befor soldering. Sorry, but your soldering looks terrible and will result in a cold joint over the time.
Hahaha!
Soldering looks fine, if anything I would imagine that is lead free solder which is lighter in colour, less shiny and an absolute cunt to work with, I throw the shit right in the fuck it bucket. But it's getting pretty damn hard to find true 60/40 lead solder, so it is a concession most people have to make, especially if you pick up your iron once or twice in a year. Lead free solder usually requires 50-200 degrees more in heat at the iron to melt, and it also requires about 2% flux by mass in order to wet properly, absolute garbage.
@@meola69420 It's 60/40 lead solder
