I made an account just to reply here. I’m seeing the same thing in Kentucky. Our 2 local clubs have lost over half their members. Look at BFL attendance as well. Especially in highland lake divisions where it especially dominates. People don’t care any more. I’ve had FFS for 3 years now and the honeymoon is over. I wish it was dead and gone so I could enjoy fishing again. And yes I’ve kicked some ass with it, it’s just the same thing over and over to me and it’s killed the variety for me. And killed my two favorite fishing clubs

I tired of the arguments for sure . Two thoughts: 1) It seems that bass fishing has become solely a rich man's game, if you want to catch more bass. 2) I think the best analogy to eliminating forward facing sonar in competitive tournaments would be the way stock car racing limits all cars to virtually identical equipment so that the competition is between drivers, and not technology.

It kills the bass protection from high 🎣 pressure when you don't have to idle over them to find them. FFS just look around fish fish fish and you may not catch any of those fish but now they are vulnerable. Those are the fish to live to spawn next season unhandled so much. I rather catch a 10 in 3ft shallow than me seeing it in 20 ft and can't see me. Am I working the bait right am I going to fast. Should I use the twitch twitch method. It's gonna hurt years to come because everyone ain't releasing bass because of no FKG bass tournament. Just hooking them hurts to.

I just find it amusing the way people justify stuff. Wonder why deer hunters aren't allowed to use infrared scopes yet here anglers are practically doing the exact same thing with fishing. Takes a whole lot less of a "pro" to catch a fish when you use a 100 years of technology to do it. Guess that would explain the reason kids as you said catch more fish when they can actually see them. Sort of debunks the whole argument "just because you see them doesn't mean you can catch them".
All this time I thought fishing was a sport, a competition, between men/women pitting their skill and knowledge against the fish not what Garmin Lowrance etc. can sell anyone to make up for their lack of skill and knowledge. Yes technology is good airplanes do make commuting long distances generally much better but to compare commuting to a competition is apples and oranges. The same with race cars there are professional classes that don't allow every technological advantage known to be used. For the same reason deer hunters don't get infrared.
Once you take the hurdles out of the hurdle race are you really hurdle racing? Finding the fish especially the good fish was the hurdle in most cases. All I'm saying is I do not see this technology helping the sport long term. As stated who will be watching fishing in 10 years if all you see is a anglers back? Not like fishing has ever had the biggest audience and yet here they allow something to turn more away. Same with the anglers and all these high dollar electronics. How many average guys would ever attempt to try and compete knowing it would take a $200,000 rig to just be competitive. On the flip side what is to be gained by using FFS at the professional level? A few more fish caught by less and less skilled anglers?
We all know they wont get rid of them there is too much money behind it. Its always about the money. Obviously its not about the sport or its spectators or they would have pulled the reigns back when they had 2 screens and were trying to put 3,4, and 5 on the boat. A true professional fisherman should have no problem going man vs man not who has the most technology.

For the everyday angler, or weekend angler, or whatever you want to call them I totally agree with you. If there is tool that helps a guy get on fish faster or catch a few more fish, yeah I all game. I have livescope and I like it ,and I think it does have its place but I don't believe that place is in professional fishing. The tours banned a bait because they said it was unfair chase for these guys yet they think this is okay. I believe that is what has most people fired up. If it is all about catching more bass on the professional level then let them use the Alabama rig, or for that matter live shinners, water dogs, and crawfish. Again Im all about the average dude or someone not competing at the highest level using it to help them put as many fish in the boat as they can but as pro fishing a pro circuit I think they should not be allowed to use it on competition days.

@@scottreece2421 With bed fish you are catching aggressive bass that will bite to protect their bed, not because they are hungry. You do not need FF sonar. Not much skill there. You are then preventing them from spawning or protecting their bed by removing them. With FF sonar you still need to make them bite and then you can return them unharmed without damaging the resource. Big difference. If you want to make a comparison, I guess you could say FF sonar is the same as using polarized sunglasses. You can see bass under water in real time that you would not normally see.

I have several points. I spoke at the Hog Trough at a sport show in NY over the winter and asked the audience who had it and nobody had it. The we didn’t know that we didn’t know the fish were out there and you couldn’t catch them. My Grandfather new they were there before sonar and we caught them trolling a flat fish. I could see them as soon as he bought a little green box and I could catch them on live bait or trolling. As far as not being able to compete without it I haven’t seen any evidence that I can’t compete without it. That might be true at the pro level but at the club and local level I think it hurts guys that aren’t that good in the first place. I commented on a short of a screen shot that “It’s not fishing “ and I got 800 likes so there’s definitely a problem. Personally I’d rather see they drop the bans on Jet Drives, Tunnels and 20 other things than add another ban. Now that would be fun to watch!

I’m wanting to buy it and put it on my boat for my HS team but want to wait and see what the bass tournament organizations do as far as new rules. The other argument I hear against this is it’s just like spotlighting deer. NO IT’S NOT. First off you’ve got to get the fish to bite and that doesn’t always happen. If it were spot lighting all the bass seen on the FFS sonar would be caught and die; get to swim in hot grease. That doesn’t happen so loose the spot light analogy. Do I believe it needs to be regulated? Yes absolutely. There needs to be a limit on how many units can be on a boat. How many sonars can be at the bow and console, how high they can be mounted etc for safety and cost stand points. My two cents.

You really think that high tech anchors are even in the same league as FFS? Get outta here with that trolling motor stuff. But if you wanna go that route, you can still fish without a trolling motor on structure and stuff. Go catch those free roaming suspenders without FFS. Come on down to Dale and you use 2d and I’ll use scope and we will see if it’s really an advantage or not lol

I used to look forward to the live streams, but now it’s the most boring thing I’ve ever watched. The other thing about FFS is, most blue-collar working fisherman have a hard time spending that much money on that kind of technology just to go fishing. Yes, love, catching fish, but I’ve been doing it for nearly 40 years without that technology, and until I can afford it, I’ll continue to do so.

Yes those fisherman will be going to one to get there back and neck straightened out! But I bet in a couple of years they will look like a 90 year old man all bent over and there chin resting on there chest! The guy I feel sorry for is the camera man in the boat that has to film a fisherman’s ass all day! LMAO!!! Have a laugh on me ! This isn't fishing, just like spot lighting isn't hunting. Sports like baseball and golf have banned certain technology. Why shouldn't pro fishing do the same? I can't buy the argument you can't stop technolgy. That's just BS. FFS should be banned. Watching fishing on television sucks now. Until these tournament organizations grow pair and stop worrying about the sponsorship from the companies that make these electronics, it's going to continue to suck. Fishing use to be a sport for the common man and now it's become an elitist sport with 100k boats and expensive electronics.

Technology has advanced in bass fishing since the beginning and for the most part we have welcomed it, but now we have something a little pricey, and it doesn’t fit everyone’s style fishing, so there is resistance and some going as far as wanting to ban it. I admit it does seem ridiculous to have five FFS transducers on a boat, so I could see tournaments limiting to one or maybe two.
I’m watching major league fishing today and I’m reminded that some of these guys near the top not too long ago we’re battling at Cherokee Lake using down imaging and sonar and a Damiki rig.
And don’t even get me started about us good old southern boys the first time we saw a Flogger being used. Oh my gosh, people were screaming and cheaters cheaters. Like someone had just invented it and come to find out fisherman on Northern Lakes have been using it for decades. 😂

Using FFS for fishing is a lot like using targeting drones to find deer so you can just go to them and blast 'em. If you are someone who loves to fish but you don't get to go very often resulting in poor or nonexistent fish finding skills then go ahead and use your FFS to help your grand kids catch fish two or three times a year. If you're a pro then you need to give up the video games while you are on the water. Reading the water skills should be part of what makes you a pro or even a prideful fisher.

Hey JT: Great insight as always: Like any other electronic technology to come along for fishing there’s always going to be pros and cons but I personally I don’t think ffs is going to ruin fishing like so many people think or thought with any other new electric technology that has come along over the years. Is it the be all and end all NO. Like the old saying goes “it’s Just another tool in the tool box.” Just my $0.02 worth…🎣🤔😎🐝

  • @dannybarnhill5704

I see both sides of this. Personally, I’m not a fan of ffs; however, if I was making my living by fishing in tournaments, I would use whatever legal means necessary to win, even ffs. So my point is this, as long as it is legal and you want to use it, then use it. If you don’t want to use it, then don’t use it. Either way, all this arguing and bickering like 5 year olds doesn’t do anyone any good. As a society, we need to get back to having meaningful debates without all the cussing and screaming and name calling that has been going on over the last decade or so. Just my 2 cents. Tight lines everyone, regardless of how you want to do it.

What amazes me is the pro FFS RUclipsr guys don’t seem to realize that you are shooting yourself in the foot. The reason we watch your videos is to learn skills and techniques. How many videos can you make about twitching a minnow or a Jerkbait over a school of FFS identified fish. Sure you need a basic understanding of fish movement. But the importance of techniques is greatly reduced. Not to mention the. Lure companies. You need far fewer lures if you you are a FFS guy. Good luck with that.

Watching fishing is boring, whether they're staring at a screen or staring at the shoreline. But at least with FFS they're catching fish.
It is an invaluable learning tool, it doesn't remove all the mystery but it helps in understanding fish behavior. You absolutely cannot see all the fish, and they are not any easier to catch than before in most situations. But your casts are less random and you can eliminate water and techniques much more quickly. And it adds next to nothing to the cost of a new or good used boat given how expensive boats have become, so that argument is a non-starter. If you want to learn more, get it, if you want to continue guessing, don't, but either way, just fish and shut up.

I think it all comes down to how we use it. Because what happens in a small aquarium we will do that example instead because it is better for everyone to understand. You have an child and they keep poking at the glass and constantly harrasses that fish to no end that fish is eventually going to die. Tell me if I am right or wrong bass are kind of the same way right? Say someone keeps chasing the same fish over and over because they see the fish we will say up shallow because I don't believe down deep it matters as much but up shallow and say they are using the fishing sonar and they are getting too into it. And now it becomes harassing the fish. Is that bass going to die yes or no. Because that is the only way I can see it being bad in an negative light. Is this true yes or no? Because I want your take on this too? I hope this an really good question because I am hoping it is. Here's what I think technology should stay but it should be used in an respectful manner to the fish. Tell me if I am wrong or right.

For any tournament series, one transducer to cut down on cost so everyone has a level playing field and doesn't have to feel like they are competing against a bank account. Once the schedule is made up for the season have a random draw for half the derby's to see what tournaments you can use FFS and which tournaments you can't. Have it televised for viewership. This will make a more well rounded angler in the long run forcing everyone to have to learn how to do it ALL. This SHOULD please everyone!! FFS ain't going anywhere.

When you are a professional athlete with elite skills, and competing, and often times getting paid big money to win, its supposed to be about SKILL level. Practicing, mastering your skills to see who is best. All I see with FFS is who can interpret radar and bounce a jig around and watch the fish's reactions and then bounce it around some more and see if he/she bites. No matter what anyone says, FFS is absolutely a unfair technical advantage to fish that has nothing to do with the anglers skill. Its insane this is allowed in the pro level. Actually it shouldn't be allowed in hobby level either. Nothing pro about this. We have managed to now dumb down professional anglers too. I would rather see a whole lot less fish caught to see who had the most skillsets to catch the few that did get caught. That's fishing! Its not about numbers. Its about the anglers skillsets. And that's only one point and there are several others why this should have never been allowed to be in pro OR hobby level. But maybe one day, I can shoot my target buck with a thermal imaging scope at night and call that hunting. I think I will have my wall decorated with antlers and meat in the freezer then and I won't have to freeze my butt off changing stands and patterning deer to hopefully catch them in target bow range. I think I might even get a pro title too. Maybe we can even get some drones out there during deer season. I will fly that thing all around and see where they are bedded and sneak up to them on their downwind side (cause my drone knows exactly where they are located) and throw some corn. Then I think I will also use my AR15, for multiple rounds, just in case I miss the first shot. And if I do, no matter, my drone will find him again. That's super sporty and worth a pro title. Point is.....there is no argument. Fish are a game species....and should be treated as such like all the rest of us have to. Fishing is underwater hunting. And FFS leaves the game animal at an unfair advantage.
