Israel is accused of using starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza, as Israeli forces continue to severely restrict the delivery of humanitarian aid, food and medical supplies to millions inside the besieged territory. "It is not possible to create a famine by accident," says Alex de Waal, an expert on the subject who serves as the executive director of the World Peace Foundation at Tufts University. Despite months of international warnings calling on Israel to open up aid channels, de Waal says famine in Gaza is "inevitable" as those warnings have been ignored and Israel's war on Gaza is poised to continue.

Write to your politicians, write to media outlets, go to a protest (because there are others who feel hurt, use that hurt and say to the world: not in my name), if you have the ability give money to UNRWA directly or to other aid organisations like doctors without boarders, look up if there is a Palestinian group in your area and ask if they need help, look up if there are petitions in your area calling for a ceasefire or peace. Regardless of whether our countries support this we can show solidarity in small actions. If everybody who feels hurt, heartbroken over the situation does these small things we are not alone anymore. Every voice counts at the moment.

In its final report S/1994/674, the same Commission described ethnic cleansing as “… a purposeful policy designed by one ethnic or religious group to remove by violent and terror-inspiring means the civilian population of another ethnic or religious group from certain geographic areas.”
The Commission of Experts also stated that the coercive practices used to remove the civilian population can include: murder, torture, arbitrary arrest and detention, extrajudicial executions, rape and sexual assaults, severe physical injury to civilians, confinement of civilian population in ghetto areas, forcible removal, displacement and deportation of civilian population, deliberate military attacks or threats of attacks on civilians and civilian areas, use of civilians as human shields, destruction of property, robbery of personal property, attacks on hospitals, medical personnel, and locations with the Red Cross/Red Crescent emblem, among others.
The Commission of Experts added that these practices can “… constitute crimes against humanity and can be assimilated to specific war crimes. Furthermore, such acts could also fall within the meaning of the Genocide Convention.” There is evidence of this atrocity published everyday in news articles, videos published by Israeli soldiers themselves, and quotes from powerful figures in the highest echelons of Israeli government. January 5th the Washington Post published an article titled, "Israeli calls for Gaza's ethnic cleansing are only getting louder."
THE CONVENTION ON THE PREVENTION AND
PUNISHMENT OF THE CRIME OF GENOCIDE (1948) defines *Genocide* as any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:
(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated
to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
The definition of Genocide is made up of two elements, the physical element - the acts committed; and the mental element - the intent. Intent is the most difficult element to determine. To constitute genocide, there must be a proven intent on the part of perpetrators to physically destroy a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. Cultural destruction does not suffice, nor does an intention to simply disperse a group, though this may constitute a crime against humanity as set out in the Rome Statute. It is this special intent, or dolus specialis, that makes the crime of genocide so unique.
To constitute genocide, it also needs to be established that the victims are deliberately targeted - not randomly - because of their real or perceived membership of one of the four groups protected under the Convention. This means that the target of destruction must be the group, as such, or even a part of it, but not its members as individuals.
