Thanks Tim. I like your simple, commonsense approach to stuff. Also everything doesn’t have to cost a fortune to accomplish goals. Not pretty but who cares, it works. I have tried doing small batches of mine in the microwave in those throw away plastic containers that yogurt comes in. It only takes a few minutes and when it cools it separates from the container on its own. I do like the fact that your slumgum stays behind. That alone saves a step. I’ll see if I can replicate your system in the microwave. Thanks again for the great ideas.

You should put a screen over the catch bin to get any garbage

Great tip on freezing the brood comb. I like your little solar wax melter. It is a bit ugly but it appears to work real well. I'm going to head out and pick up a styrofoam cooler and a few other parts and try it out. Thank you.

I think scrapping it off between batches would help the melting times since the metal would be clear of debris. Also, placing cheesecloth over your receiving tin would filter out some of the debris that got into that tin.

the glass for picture frames is sometimes UV coated to protect the item being displayed from being damaged by the sun. Not a good option for a solar melter. How much did you pay for that kettle?

I think I got it for around $40 during their Bee Buck Blast sale back in May or April

Anyone hear of wood? Cheaper 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🙈🙉🙊

LOL. Wood is better used for more bee boxes. Also, the wood does not retain as much heat internally, so too much heat will escape unless you try lining it with some other materiel. Styrofoam cooler is way cheaper and much easier to toss together for me :)
