I’m a silviculture tech for the United States Forest Service. And my Forest burnt down 11 years ago so we are tasked with rebuilding the Forest. The biggest challenge is fighting against the old guard thought process which is creating tree plantations. Myself and my coworkers want to build a proper Forest back, which is hard because a lot of the science is not aimed at building an ecosystem and a community but at creating bigger conifers. We’re doing it tho.
That sounds fascinating. I especially like how you’re succeeding against dusty outdated ideas. Perhaps a children’s book, or an adult book lol, would be an interesting side project.
I love camping. The camping experience requires trees....lots of trees. Maybe a lake, river or creek. If the US Forestry Service really wanted to build an ecosystem outside of tree plantations, the US Forestry Service would enforce laws, and partner with Dept of Natural Resources to stop illegal stuff like the dumping of invasive ( not natural)invasive animals into the already established ecosystems.....
Thank you for what you are doing. This last week I visited Yellow River State Forest for my first time. How amazing. The photos I took were of individual trees, open glades with delicate trees, wildflowers, mossy rocks, valleys, bluffs and rivers.Driftless stole my heart. Interestingly there was a sawmill.

Responsible logging and prosperity are not mutually exclusive. The imagery you’ve captured in this video is just stunningly beautiful. From the campfire, to the shipwreck, the forest canopy and the beach sunset. This place is just gorgeous and, I hope, will be protected for generations to come.
I spend quite some time on RUclips as I do not have TV service and this is my come to channel when I need some soul food!! You have the gift of a real story teller and share so much beauty for the eyes. I envy your life. Thank you so much for all you share👏🏻❤️

Amanda, such an awesome place to visit. Thanks for taking me along on your adventures. I enjoyed it so much. I really appreciate all the nature scenes plus the sounds of the birds singing. In my area of Vancouver I very rarely hear bird song and I miss it so much. Hugs 🤗
What a stunning place! Just gorgeous!! You put yourself down for being a hoarder of surplus supplies, but that part of your nature has come in very handy many times. Not just for yourself but for others. Your van seems to handle the weight and your van doesn't look overfilled to me. I love all forests! Especially old growth of any species! I mourn the enormous trees from when I was a small child, the enormous Valley Oaks of the northern Sacramento Valley and the giant coastal Redwoods ♥️ But, I know that I am blessed to have seen some and to still be among the coastal Redwoods that remain. 💫♥️💫
BTW this is the best of all the "van life" channels. You only use your own music, when it is there, and your photography is the best. Thank you for sharing and inspiring.
I totally agree with you on deforestation. Cut, but DON'T clear cut. I've driven thru a clear cut forest. It's heartbreaking to see what we do to this beautiful planet. The earth is getting back at us though, thru the work of nature, AND IT WILL WIN!
Great video and many as great photographs! The drone footage is also an addition to the story and your description of the travels. You should write a children’s book on exploring the peace of nature with your quiet by inviting stories. Maybe you might get more people to see the planet as their home rather than a “harsh” environment. Peace to you and Frank and Flossy.🎉
Wow Amanda, you look more relaxed and peaceful than I think I’ve ever seen you. That environment and pace agrees with you. Hi Frank!!! ❤❤❤. Hi Flossy!!! 💛💛💛
Container suggestion: Get several Mason jars with lids. Things stay fresher and more moisture-free in glass jars. I like to do most everything (cereal, rice, etc.) including fresh berries in glass jars with good lids (I buy plastic lids on Amazon that fit the jars) and fresh things last much longer.
Those trees are amazing! Thank you so much for sharing them with us. It's very sad that these forests are being irreplaceably damaged for money. Watching the beautiful trails made me think it would be nice to have a trail to watch while I walk my daily 3000 steps, which sometimes must be done inside. Perhaps on your ambient channel with the added sound of soothing water or maybe even a Steel Tongue Drum accompaniment . Have a great trip!
I so love seeing the beautiful places you visit, however also encourage the down time to BE. Jealously watching you eat fiddleheads while still hanging in the Arizona desert waiting for Yucca flowers and cactus fruit. Thanks for sharing.
I was there 25 years ago.....cool to see it again. You are kindling an urge to revisit Haida Gwaii once again. It is truly a special place on Mother Earth. Hugs to Frank!
Wow what a gift this video is! Your poetic descriptions at the beginning made my heart so happy. Your connection and presence to the land and water is truly inspiring. I greatly appreciate this style of video. May you continue to regroup & recharge along your travels ❤
Love how you love forests and trees you are so right about needing to be sustainable rather than just chopping at will! I live in an area where they are taking all the farm land and making subdivisions out of it. This means I am watching wildlife disappear everyday! It is out of greed and short term thinking by politicians and corporations ( psychos lol). It is frustrating because no matter how many people speak up and how many meetings are hosted to stop the progress, as they call it, it just keeps happening. The greed runs so deep that, for example, they just keep building houses even though the hospital is not big enough for all the new people! The infrastructure is just not there for the population increase! Anyway I definately need to get back to the west coast! Left my heart there last September💗

Loved your vlog, Amanda. Interesting, informative, thought-provoking, with a dash of whimsy & magic in all that surrounds you. Gorgeous area you are exploring. You look healthy, glowing, and rosy-cheeked (your bangs are so pretty)! I agree about the trees, and wanted to recommend a book you may like (or maybe you have already read it): The Power of Trees, How Ancient Forests Can Save Us If We Let Them, by Peter Wohlleben (he's from Germany). I've read most of his books, and this may be one of his best, in making the argument(s) stated in the title. (And I cannot end my comment without noting that if we had a vegan humanity, we could rewild an area the size of the continent of Africa; and it is intact ecosystems that capture carbon, among a plethora of things, and this is why our planet/our 'ship' in space is unravelling, we've destroyed 65 million years of evolution, and are down to less than 4% of mammalian wildlife biomass... Instead of feeding 8 billion humans, we are spending ridiculous resources and energy - the cruelty and lack of ethics keep me awake - on feeding over 80 billion land mammals, domestic ones, to obtain a small amount of calories, instead of just feeding 8 billion humans plants.) Another excellent book I am reading is called, The Climate Crisis & Other Animals, by Richard Twine. It goes into the minutiae of numbers, and culture, as he's a sociologist. He talks about the anthropocentric failure to accord full moral consideration to other species. Thank you for your beautiful vlogs!
