- I'm learning the hard way on this one! Trying to make a game plan to build this Vortec 350 but I'm running into bad parts and lies from GM claims. Hopefully you learn something from this.

Good to know on those heads brother. Good way of looking at it.
Thanks, Yeah I originally wanted to use the stock heads but I just don’t think it’s worth it from money and labor point. If they were both good to begin with I probably would’ve ran with them.
Elgin RV-1943X valve springs with Pioneer teflon seals, gives you a much better spring that's not a single coil, gives you the seat pressure that's perfect for a truck cam, 204-214 to 214-224 duration, been using those springs for 20+ years.
I see new whatching for you and your truck covers comming
I am running 1/2 with vortec heads. It seems if the vehicle was cared for the heads will probably be ok if it was overheated or rodded they're done. I had to buy the same afr heads for my last build as well. Be interesting to see how the do.
Nice work😊
Oh my my look at them b eads love them
You should find a good machine shop to deck that block. You could raise the compression a few points and use the thinnest head gaskets you can find.
If I was building a race motor then yeah for sure. But with the new piston set up I should be around 9.56 ~ static compression. That’s with .037 compressed head gasket. So I could get more if I wanted. But that should be a nice conservative number to runoff of cheap gas and it’s still better than what I started with, so I’m pretty cool with that.
The one thing I would definitely do is replace the oil pump.
Sure, it’s a controversial choice. I did look it over and added a little bit of tension to the bypass spring.
@@nicholsperformance92 That's what I do. I hardly ever replace a sbc oil pump.
Nice change
Here is an Idea 💡 you could buy Summitt Racing brand pistons and get the compression you really want. Anyway it wouldn't hurt to check into it.
That’s exactly what I ended up doing lol. Found their not the best quality though. Check out my latest video lotta stuff I had to figure out.
@nicholsperformance92 ok 👍 thanks it was as least a check ✔️ anyway you kinda helped me out buy it out. I've been thinking about putting a V8 in my GMC SONOMA as well. So I'll just try to save some money up to get the parts I need for a build.
Love h😊ere it run
You get something to replace them ??????? Heads????
. Mine same color cool
Are you getting new h ead bolts?
Cam barrarings????
Oh darn😢
.nice cam s h aft
what trans you used?
Using the s10 stock 4l60 trans.
mine is 2.8 manual trans. but i have a whole 96 5.0 vortec with 4l60e trans and i keep getting different part numbers for trans crossmember from summit.
Buddy, everything about the sbc is junk. You would have come out better with a used 6.0.
We grew up on low compression lolololololo
Throw a ig cam in it
let me fix that for you. the previous owners of vortec were junk not the heads.
the heads are legit. and you got bad ones. that doesnt change the other facts.
you cant say their pretty decent stock heads if you mod. these are basically the best stock head a small block chevy got. their good heads.
but mistreated they will have problems like any other parts.
i got a good runner for cheap. used it for a winter like the plan and rebuilt it and have not had a problem since. because i opted for good parts that ran. if you got parts at a junk yard they will be junk. sadly getting new parts has the same risk factor. good parts are hard to come by. dont knock the parts knock the abusers.
Ive l earned something else. Tha k yo g or your advertising us.😊
