Are Your Workouts Preparing You for Life?

- “Variance within the program means literally you do anything and everything that life, nature, sport, or even potentially combat can throw at you. It’s literally preparing you for life outside the walls of the gym.” - Chuck Carswell
The goal of CrossFit is to create a broad, general, and inclusive fitness: fitness with a general physical capacity that lends itself well to any and all contingencies; the likely and unlikely; the known, unknown, and unknowable. It is not enough to develop one capacity at the expense of any or all others. We do not just want you to be good in the gym or at one physical task; we want you to be good at life, sport, combat, and everywhere, at any time, for any duration, and in any environment. Achieving that requires variance.
“Variance is unique to CrossFit in that we lean heavily into expanding athletes outside their comfort zones. And that expanding outside their comfort zones leads to a broader adaptation and a broader capacity overall as a person than you would get if you were just a specialist. So they can’t just be strong, or just be fast. They have to be fast and strong and skilled and have great long-term endurance.” - Justin Bergh

Good stuff team. A bunch of folks do need reminders of how the evolution of fitness is happening, and that it is not just random circus tricks out of nowhere.

@@CrossFitGamesTV Yes indeed!
We appreciate you tuning in!
Great job making the case for “preparing for life,” but big opportunity (or connection) missed. All the videos and commentary were in relation to CF Games athletes. But the title “are your workouts…” is speaking to the every day athlete. Show us how Games programming trickles down or scales for the masses, which is the title of this video.
Hey, Hans! We appreciate your thoughts. Check out this video showing the relationship between happens inside an affiliate and what happens on the CrossFit Games floor. ruclips.net/video/_5bi2OmGqSw/видео.html
Are you saying that the research study conducted by various long term studies that found moderate exercises 3 times a week and eating healthy are wrong? These studies followed various people throughout their lives and found that those in the extremes tend to live a shorter life than those who take things in moderation. Those that seem to not do anything or do things excessively tend to live a shorter life whereas those who do things in moderation tend to live longer lives. Crossfit is rather extreme especially the games that have people pushing well past their limits and I very much doubt these people will be around past their 70s.
