This is young batman. He's only been doing this for two years. Also it makes sense why he's so serious and angry. His parents were murdered by a criminal and he's letting his anger out on other criminals. Its very comic accurate and is nothing like we've ever got from previous batman films. I'm super excited for this movie and digging the dark and gritty vibe. Looking forward to seeing Robert Pattison's batman evolution in future sequels.

It just isn't of the same mould as the films we have come across from MCU and other studios in recent years, similar to how Logan was (and that was a smash hit).
Logan balanced the bleak with a lot of hope thanks to X23. Wider audiences will get on board with the darkness if you give them a light at the end of the tunnel to cling to.

Reeves said this film is in year 2 of Bruce Wayne being Batman, and this is the first true mystery he has to solve. BTW don't assume the Riddler is the main villain just because that's what you see in the trailer. Reeves said this was a mystery. Meaning The Riddler may be part of it, but that doesn't mean he's the main person Batman has to deal with. If you read Batman: Hush or Batman: The Long Halloween and Dark Victory, they populate the story with a lot of villains, only to have NONE of them be guilty of the murders Batman is trying to solve.

Batman didn’t go full dark and gritty until The Dark Knight Returns, and everyone has been chasing that ever since. Bruce Wayne in the comics comes back with the billionaire playboy public persona in mind, to hide the Batman of it all. It is a calculated performance because he is literally a genius. He’s vengeful but not dumb. He’s angry, but in control. It’s the only reason he survives. He doesn’t just train in combat, he trains in espionage, and in diplomacy. Batman is a dark character and all of his rogues villains are dark as hell so it's not surprising that this is dark. The Dark Knight Trilogy has dark in it. That's the difference between him and Spider-Man.

Third, we like this trailer, think we will like this movie a lot, but did think it was darker and less general audience friendly than past Batman films. That’s all we said. Batman was always a grim character. This is a Batman that’s completely unhinged and really doesn’t care about how his methods are, no matter how violent. That’s why the movie is called “The Batman.” He’s the vigilante, not the hero yet. Stories like year one, ego, those are very dark stories and the main inspiration for this film. The Bruce Wayne for this version is darker and more broken, his look represents that. This movie is gonna be dark, and that’s very intentional.

It seems nobody wants to do mid-career Batman in the 21st Century and choose to do the early years or as in the case of Dark Knight Rises & Affleck, late into his career.. But the Danny o'Niel/Neil Adams years; globe trotting; Robin by his side; a colourful Gotham (not literally I mean variety) stuff never makes it to the big screen. The movie looks super incredible, but I'm a little disappointed that tonally, it seems so similar to the Chris Nolan Batman movies, I wish we got to see something a little different. "Why so serious?" This is between Year 1 and 2 of Bruce being The Batman. He's done everything to get over the death of his parents *except* try to heal mentally/emotionally. He's taking that anger and pain out on the criminals, without regard for his own safety. I suspect - as more movies are made, if this is a success - that in later movies we'll see his growth, were he doesn't always go in to cave in the heads of criminals. Growth where he learns not to take such a physical beating. Growth as a detective.
The goal is that it is Bruce Wayne’s first two years as Batman. He is still dealing with the trauma of his parents death. And he is still discovering who he is as Batman and Bruce Wayne. It seems to be a psychological movie about him trying to balance the two, which tears him apart inside. I also think it’s supposed to be R-rated and the Riddler isn’t so much of a comic book physical threat. He’s much more of a mental foe to the Batman
That’s super interesting and I hope that is the majority of this movie. This trailer is very heavy on the Batman is invincible and punches everything side, and this is less interesting to me. I don’t want Batman to be bullet proof, if I did I would watch literally every other super hero movie. Especially this early in his career.

Yet another couple of normies who do cbm reviews cause it's "the trend". Don't try to review these things if you don't know about these characters. You obviously did not get any of the year 01 references or shots. And none of the two of you even bothered to take a look at the cinematography. He's supposed to be in Year 2, but he exists within this trailer much like the Terminator does in that franchise. An unstoppable force is a boring main character. Bullet proof Batman is not interesting, even though that hallway shot is absolutely gorgeous to look at. I mean what I said in the video, I liked this trailer but it isn't as good as last years and hints at some movie elements that I'm not sure I will like.
It's because he's only a year 2 Batman, he hasn't become that Dark Knight who knows all the tricks in the shadows. He's full of anger & rage, and hasn't focused it to be the batman he again becomes later. He also is at a stage where the difference of bruce wayne & Batman is blurred still. This is promoted as Noir style Detective Batman film, showing how he becomes the "greatest detective". Anyways that's my 2 cents. Either way looking forward to seeing Reeves take on The Batman.

Also this Batman is very brutish in that same way, where he's probably more happy to run into danger head on instead of in predator mode putting himself at risk of real danger. Though i am hoping they explain his suit & how it's protecting him from those bullets. I know in the comics Batman originally put the bat symbol on his chest because enemies eyes would be distracted & aim for his chest the strongest part of his armour/Batsuit. Any case, definitely reminds me of the dark graphic novels like the long halloween (but before the rogues really become rogues).
I love the casino royale comparison and would really love if this movie felt like that. I don’t mind him being brutish, but it’s boring if he’s invincible. Bond in CR is in danger in every fight so it is thrilling, but I won’t have that same thrill if Batman can walk down hallways eating bullets like they’re nothing. The stakes matter, and making your hero unstoppable deflated them quickly.

The movie was meant to come out in October 2021, literally this month. That's why they released the trailer last year. But then COVID spiked and forced them to release it later.
I understand some people only enjoy the sunshine and rainbows of movies instead of a more dark and gritty one, some people want to use movies as an escape from reality, not a reminder of one but the concerns seem to stem from ignorance and weird expectations, watched too many marvel movies perhaps ?
Exactly they are not, they just watched the trailer because everyone else is doing it. It's all about getting clicks and attention you know. But that's the sad reality of social media. And call this story and trailer offputting is beyond insane. Like all Batman stories are basically "offputting". This is EXACTLY how comic book fans wanted Batman to be and it takes inspiration from both the comic books “Batman The Long Halloween” & “Batman Ego”. You should read them to better understand the vision of what Matt Reeves wanted to create.
This film isn't the typical super hero story but Batman has never been your typical super hero. It feels like a modern noir film with Batman being your anti-hero protaganist, Catwoman as your femme fatale, the voice over narration, the gloom, and violence and I am here for it! I love film noir though, not everyone's preference I guess. I like that they don't give away the plot to the film in the trailer also.
I would agree with you, but the completely bullet proof suit detracts from that a little. I'm hopeful the film is more intellectual, but the trailer feels very brute force driven.

- depict a younger batman
- showcase his journey from an emotional standpoint
- bring forth the blurriness on screen that exists between the two personas as part of this standalone story.

Bruce Wayne in the comics comes back with the billionaire playboy public persona in mind, to hide the Batman of it all. It is a calculated performance because he is literally a genius. He’s vengeful but not dumb. He’s angry, but in control. It’s the only reason he survives. He doesn’t just train in combat, he trains in espionage, and in diplomacy. I’m not hating on you, I think you’re take is just lacking in nuance.
Batman is a dark character and all of his rogues villains are dark as hell so it's not surprising that this is dark. The Dark Knight Trilogy has dark in it. That's the difference between him and Spider-Man.

First off, it’s not a review, it’s a reaction. Second, never claimed to know more than him. Third, we like this trailer, think we will like this movie a lot, but did think it was darker and less general audience friendly than past Batman films. That’s all we said. Maybe watch the whole video before leaving a bone headed comment like this.
This Batman is attempting to establish himself as someone that crooks WANT to avoid because he will hurt them ... badly.
Batman was always a grim character. This is a Batman that’s completely unhinged and really doesn’t care about how his methods are, no matter how violent. That’s why the movie is called “The Batman.” He’s the vigilante, not the hero yet. Stories like year one, ego, those are very dark stories and the main inspiration for this film. The Bruce Wayne for this version is darker and more broken, his look represents that. This movie is gonna be dark, and that’s very intentional.
The problem you all have with the trailer is the peak testosterone levels. You can tell by this guy's feminine voice that he wants rainbow Batman.

The movie looks super incredible, but I'm a little disappointed that tonally, it seems so similar to the Chris Nolan Batman movies, I wish we got to see something a little different. Warner bros seems to be swinging so far that way in tone to differentiate from Marvel.

This is between Year 1 and 2 of Bruce being The Batman.
He's done everything to get over the death of his parents *except* try to heal mentally/emotionally.
He's taking that anger and pain out on the criminals, without regard for his own safety.
I suspect - as more movies are made, if this is a success - that in later movies we'll see his growth, were he doesn't always go in to cave in the heads of criminals. Growth where he learns not to take such a physical beating. Growth as a detective.

The goal is that it is Bruce Wayne’s first two years as Batman. He is still dealing with the trauma of his parents death. And he is still discovering who he is as Batman and Bruce Wayne. It seems to be a psychological movie about him trying to balance the two, which tears him apart inside. I also think it’s supposed to be R-rated and the Riddler isn’t so much of a comic book physical threat. He’s much more of a mental foe to the Batman
That’s super interesting and I hope that is the majority of this movie. This trailer is very heavy on the Batman is invincible and punches everything side, and this is less interesting to me. I don’t want Batman to be bullet proof, if I did I would watch literally every other super hero movie. Especially this early in his career.

He's supposed to be in Year 2, but he exists within this trailer much like the Terminator does in that franchise. An unstoppable force is a boring main character. Bullet proof Batman is not interesting, even though that hallway shot is absolutely gorgeous to look at. I mean what I said in the video, I liked this trailer but it isn't as good as last years and hints at some movie elements that I'm not sure I will like.

It's because he's only a year 2 Batman, he hasn't become that Dark Knight who knows all the tricks in the shadows. He's full of anger & rage, and hasn't focused it to be the batman he again becomes later.
He also is at a stage where the difference of bruce wayne & Batman is blurred still.
This is promoted as Noir style Detective Batman film, showing how he becomes the "greatest detective".
Anyways that's my 2 cents. Either way looking forward to seeing Reeves take on The Batman.

I know in the comics Batman originally put the bat symbol on his chest because enemies eyes would be distracted & aim for his chest the strongest part of his armour/Batsuit.
Any case, definitely reminds me of the dark graphic novels like the long halloween (but before the rogues really become rogues).
I love the casino royale comparison and would really love if this movie felt like that. I don’t mind him being brutish, but it’s boring if he’s invincible. Bond in CR is in danger in every fight so it is thrilling, but I won’t have that same thrill if Batman can walk down hallways eating bullets like they’re nothing. The stakes matter, and making your hero unstoppable deflated them quickly.

My biggest problem with Black Panther is that his suit is beyond invulnerable, literally the same problem I have here. Stop making these characters have suits that protect them from every damn thing so the fights can actually have some stakes.

Batman is supposed to be dark. He IS crazy. He is an unhinged, angry young man who’s grieving the death of his parents by brutalizing criminals. The trailer even has him say “I’m vengeance”. He isn’t a superhero yet, just a monster that other monsters fear. He will learn to temper his rage and become the Dark Knight.

The movie has already been described to take place during Halloween night, as a horror thriller and majority of the movie will tackle the detective aspect of the dark knight, Batman keeps a journal and narrates it to the audience, why so serious? Because he’s young and still not getting over his parents death and is full of bloodlust and anger and doesn’t know exactly how he fits in Gotham city. This is EXACTLY how comic book fans wanted Batman to be and it takes inspiration from both the comic books “Batman The Long Halloween” & “Batman Ego”. You should read them to better understand the vision of what Matt Reeves wanted to create.
This film isn't the typical super hero story but Batman has never been your typical super hero. It feels like a modern noir film with Batman being your anti-hero protaganist, Catwoman as your femme fatale, the voice over narration, the gloom, and violence and I am here for it! I love film noir though, not everyone's preference I guess. I like that they don't give away the plot to the film in the trailer also.
I would agree with you, but the completely bullet proof suit detracts from that a little. I'm hopeful the film is more intellectual, but the trailer feels very brute force driven.
