Briston Maroney says a lot with a little. With only a homemade EP and a few singles to his name, Briston has identified himself as a voice for his class of outsiders. His nomadic past is stitched together in songs; in one moment, his guitar tone is drenched in the Florida humidity, and on the next, his harmonies echo through the Laurel Canyon. I was seeing this guy a while back. We used to have very deep conversations about music. He turned me on to artists that he felt were the pinnacle of music and he unfortunately believed that music had made no modern advances worth listening to beyond bands like U2. I introduced him to this song, and a few others. He wasn't impressed, and actually thought badly of my taste in music because I adore this song. He was a snob with antiquated ideas about music. I broke up with him, deleted his number, and never spoke to him again. Being free to adore this music is literally what life is all about. When your heart becomes closed to new experiences. Life becomes longer than it needs to be and no fun at all. Thanks, Briston. You're a genius.

I always hate comparing artists because we're all unique in our own way but I must say you have the spirit of Jeff Buckley in your tone, your vocals and also in your mannerism. I am in love with you and your music and will continue to bring people to these videos. YOU deserve the best and I hope you continue writing music for as long as you can.

its been four years and this is still one of my favourite few songs ever. It is absolutely beautiful, something that i will always have close to my heart. This song is about love & betrayal as two of the same ally & enemy. He talks of his love, Rose - a symbol of the most beautiful blossom but ephemeral by nature. He tells us she is asleep as he is consumed with fear of loss. He confirms he is surprised she stayed beyond the season, revealing that it is their circumstances that are dragging them apart. Not their love as such.
He rates himself of low self-worth but not low intelligence. For he realises his circumstances & thus chances of success & meaning are slim. He speaks of either Brooklyn Botanical Gardens or maybe of her Garden from their childhood, but I think the meaning is the same. He lives in hell here, his farther obviously detests his choice of romance, is probably abusive, & she has a chance to leave now.

For me, this brings me back to the first time I really listened to Alice in Chains, ..not so much musically, but more so for the way it makes you feel....the lyrics are so beautiful and the chords haunting....almost a troubling feeling, but just have to keep listening... great job!! you have a new fan!
