I can easily say the best playing style.
You can do build up, couters,attack with wing and also ping pong with 2 cf formations.

But use it with 2 dmfs one anchorman and another for passing and little bit of defense.
Another great formation for outwide is 3-4-3.
Another one would be the classic 4-3-3 but you can use your own custom 4-3-3 and all.

Why cross when you can simply cut inside with your wingers.
People has a misconception that out wide is only for crossing but man your wingers,rmfs,lmfs simply becomes untouchable.
Just cut inside with them and shoot.
And for your answer yes crossing still works if you have a good crosser and header of the ball.

Bro I play with xabi Alonso quick counter the proplem with xabi is the wingers will run towards the striker making opposition defenders to intercept ur through ball with matchup easily but with this coach ur wingers can have space to do whatever u want cross or cut inside and shoot so for me this is the perfect playstyle in Konami no laggy passes in possession game
