There's difference between criticism and mockery. This is mockery to one of the greatest footballers that ever played. Ronaldo played badly, and it's not a surprise. He's almost 40. But what he brings to the team is something no other youngster in Portugal can, experience. He already achieved everything. There's nothing to prove anymore.

Which planet are you living on, mate? He is absolutely correct, and the stats back him up. Do you understand football? He's not scoring because, unlike Spain, Germany, or even England, they constantly attack with 4, 5, 6 and 7 players in the box. He's usually on his own in the box, making scoring difficult as multiple defenders can focus on him because Portugal doesn't have others there. ANd when they do they score, look at Portugal's goals, 100% of them are on the back of Ronaldo's moves. Did you watch the games?

Anyway, the main reason he hasn't scored is because his finishing hasn't been good enough. He's also missed 4 big chances, and a penalty.
Also, having the most shots obviously doesn't translate to a player touching the ball a lot. There's no better example of that than a player like Haaland. CR has averaged just under 30 touches per game, which for a team who has the amount of possession Portugal does is anything but a big amount.
This was the same person who has mocked Messi many times. He also claimed Messi would cry after losing the World Cup final, which obviously he was made to look foolish about. Of course though he has an issue about mockery when it's CR.
What's funny also is how clueless Piers is when it comes to football. The fact he thinks possession points to Portugal being the best team is further evidence of that. Needless to say, possession only has relevance when it leads to a team being effective as a result of that; which is exactly what a team like Spain have been. Not to mention, look at the teams Portugal have faced. They're yet to face a top side, yet still have been unable to win all their games. Of course they are a big threat, but as of now there is nothing to suggest they are going to win it.

Once he reached Real Madrid, Portugal managers made teams to play off Ronaldo, naturally. He didn't have to defend, all free kicks were his, he could always shoot, etc. it was symbiotic as it raised Portugal's performance. We were very hard to beat and Ronaldo would do his part. Not beautiful to watch most times but effective enough.
It never happened, he was poor for most of the tournament with a few great moments. He's barely ever carried the team on his back either. An amazing player but it's weird how people feel the need to totally exaggerate his impact and achievements isn't it?

You are wrong…Ronaldo scored the last minute goal to tie the game that allowed them to get out of group stage and they won the game against wales 2-0 (Ronaldo scored an absolute stunner header) so wasn’t a 90th min win. Ronaldo loves his country for sure, but his desire is to be THE hero for the country/team, grab the headlines. He got used to that at 21 and never let go of that.
He believes even at 39, he is 25 or so and better than any young striker. Until 3 years or so ago, that attitude propelled him to the top. But honestly, now he looks ridiculous - like a 80 year power crazy dictator holding on to his chair.

As a 12 year old playing football in a final we were beaten 2-1 (I remember one of our players crying after the game because we were beaten. He wasn't a player with the best talent but was the only player who became a professional. All the kids had talent but it was his passion that drove him to the top.

Passion, desire etc are not enough to win. Ability matters. Ronaldo is a legend but this euro has been proof that he’s way past his prime and the manager playing him for 120 whole mins while young talents are benched itself is a disgrace. I’m not saying bench him or anything but just don’t play him for a full 90 or 120 and avoid giving chances to young talent because they’re the ones taking the team forward.
