NASCAR's Ugly Champ 4 Weekend Includes Accusations of Race Manipulation

  • NASCAR fans, teams, and drivers had looked forward to racing in Phoenix since the season started back at Daytona in February. The Championship 4 races crown new champions for each series. It was a celebratory moment for the sport. Unfortunately, it was also littered with ugly controversy.
    It started with an embarrassing blunder in the Truck Series race on Friday, which included an incorrectly marked restart zone, and concluded with a hotly-contested battle between eventual Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney and race winner Ross Chastain, which later resulted in accusations of race manipulation.
    NASCAR has addressed both issues.

      Bro, the fans complained enough that's why NASCAR implemented the playoffs and stages. The fans got tired and bored of long green flag runs where the competition was negligible because every car was separated by several seconds and they grew bored of F1 style championships where the Champ is crowned 3 or 4 races before the season ends

  • @godsmacking99
    @godsmacking99 7 месяцев назад +5

    It's also kind of hilarious how in each series exactly 2 Chevy's, 1 Ford, and 1 Toyota were in the champ 4. A perfect representation of each manufacturer... almost too perfect. If something is too much of a coincidence and it happens right in your face, it's usually not purely a coincidence and there's some manipulation going on to produce these results.
    Look at Ryan Blaney. Absolutely nowhere to be found most of the year, Penske struggled heavily and then all of sudden in the last 5-6 races they have race winning speed in each race? It's just not believable. He was the last Ford in the playoffs and Nascar needed him to go all the way to appease Ford so that tapered spacer that Nascar issues themselves to the teams can easily be routed out an extra 1/16th of an inch or whatever to give you that extra little horsepower boost to give you an edge over the competition. Where did Blaney make up all his speed at Phoenix and Martinsville? When he got back on the gas off the corner. He was way faster off the corner than everybody else, evidence that he had more HP than everybody else. And Blaney makes a very popular champion, unlike last year when most people complained Logano won it all because he's not popular and wasn't a popular champion. Nascar isn't going to make that mistake again, Logano will never be a champion again unless he gets back on the fans' good side. Also why Hamlin will never win a championship, especially now. Too much of a villain. He sealed his fate of going championship-less because of this.
    This is one of the reasons why Nascar continues to run the plates/spacers, not because it produces better racing (because it clearly doesn't), but because this is how they can interfere and potentially manipulate outcomes. This is how Danica Patrick won the pole in the 500 in her first Cup series season and never came close to winning the pole again (or being that fast again in general), this is how Austin Dillon in the famous return of the #3 car back in the Cup series also won the pole in the 500 in its first return back, Jeff Gordon wins the 500 pole in his final year, Chase Elliott wins it in his rookie year after taking over for Gordon... the biggest story heading into the season wins the pole for the biggest race of the season and it happened 4 years in a row. There's no way that's a complete coincidence, that is Nascar writing their own headlines and giving themselves the best possible story to talk about leading into the biggest race of the year.
    The entire history of Nascar is riddled with examples of manipulation and favoritism. It's always been a part of this sport more so than others. I don't know how anybody can still believe that Nascar is still genuine and plays fair because they never have and they still don't.

    I know for a fact it's true. Just look at the races, the championship over the years vs the other races. The top 3 or 4 in points are rarely all 1-4 in any race, except the championship race. I remember races at Miami where Jeff Gordon was killing the entire field. Then, he disappeared, no longer a factor at all. Larson the same thing when he was at Ganasi. Started the race looking like the best car. Then disappeared. Not like had a bad stop and got pushed back. But just for no apparent reason just went back mid pack and stayed there. And what made it even more obvious is the commentators never even mentioning it, no cameras even panning to them. It's like they weren't even there anymore.

    • @mlwilliam213
      @mlwilliam213 7 месяцев назад +7

      Yeah, Gordon pitted from the lead late in 2014 with the dominant car, for no reason. I’m guessing what happened is NASCAR asked him to step aside wanting him to let a “playoff” driver win and he got a lead and pulled into pit road to make it look stupid because he was pissed. That was the first year of the playoffs and the #24 was the best team. It’s also the year that Gordon didn’t make it to the final because Keselowski got into him a Texas and Newman wrecked Larson at Phoenix to make it in. So if Gordon wins it makes the championship look illegitimate because nothing the #24 team did cost them the rightful championship. It’s been obvious since the first year that the playoffs are WWE on wheels.

I'm sure they know their names but never saw how they raced live when they did the things they did. I think Ross is the next big star. I compare Ross to one of the drivers I just mentioned but will not name it as people get very offended when anyone is compared to him and I respect that. Ross, he will do whatever is in his power to win. If he can not do it on speed he will still find a way (Martinsville, Balls of steel!). He can turn on the aggressive driving on the track and still be likeable when he gets out of the car. He is great for his sponsors and brings just the right amount of drama. Only TWO GUYS got screwed all weekend. #1- Corey Heim, and #2- Grant Enfinger. The Xfinity race was clean. The Cup race was also clean with a great hard fought win by Chastain. Heim got screwed because he got taken out by Hocevar (intentionally or unintentionally...doesn't matter...bad driving). Then Enfinger had a nearly certain championship robbed from him by Heim's retaliation bringing out the caution with a few laps to go. I don't feel bad for Hocevar at all, he deserved it. But I feel bad that Enfinger, who is 38 and running out of years to win a championship, had an almost-certain championship robbed from him.

    In Baseball you win by points ,Basketball, Drag Racing ,etc . NASCAR needs to go back to what worked . Stage racing has to go. Brian France proved that NASCAR could be managed with gross incompetence and callous indifference without actually killing the thing completely. While things have improved since his disgraced removal, his legacy lives in the worst championship format in motorsports. It’s past time NASCAR pulls its collective head from deep within certain posterior regions, man up and admit that the format is largely a failure. The format has cheapened the first 26 races, cheapened their premier race, helped a decline in sportsmanship and most of all, hasn’t brought in those young new fans they keep trying so hard to attract. When will NASCAR finally admit that the sport is broken?

    I'm a huge fan of BOTH Ryan and Chastain🥰, so... I definitely think what NASCAR tried to do regarding Chastain was messed up: he shouldn't let up for anyone just because they're still in the playoffs, and it would've been absolutely NOBODY'S fault but Ryan's if he had f_cked over his champ run by losing his brain against Chastain😑.
    And then I saw somewhere in these comments that Chastain said he was trying to back Ryan up to allow the HMS Champ 4 drivers to try to catch him, which is... whew😶! But, I'm ALSO an advocate for driver/manufacturer teamwork that isn't just on superspeedways: I don't see anything wrong with wanting your same manufacturer to win something as long as you don't flat out wreck the opponent.
    I guess to shorten this up, I both love the results that Chastain+Ryan got in winning the race🥳 and championship🥰 respectively... AND I love that neither of them got the results they tried for🙌🏾!!!
    1. Chastain was faster, whether Ryan believed it or not🤷🏾‍♀️, and he was clean with everything he did. He did nothing wrong in doing what he's paid for🏁!!
    2. With Chastain trying to help a Chevy win it all, I wouldn't have minded if it were William that was directly behind Ryan (I'm a fan of him too, but I love Ryan way more💛). But since it was Larson.. let's just say I'm D_MN happy nothing happened🥳, though Ryan was much faster+better anyway.
    NASCAR, don't f_ck up like this again (doubt they won't); Chastain, I'm SO happy you won the race; Ryan, thank GOD you didn't lose your head enough... AMAZING ending to the 2023 season!!! #My2ndFavoriteDriverIsACHAMPION🏆😆 #TeamPenskeBACK2BACK😈

The win in any race no matter which race it is should be interviewed first and then the other drivers. Just because Ryan Blaney won the Cup champion he should have been interviewed second. NASCAR treated Ross Chastain as if he was a nobody. Time to go back to old way of racing and stop playoff series.
