  • A quick look around the Brooklands Museum area and parts of the old track then a 4 lap blast around the full circuit in John Cobbs Napier Railton on Microprose's Spirit of Speed 1937 with commentary also points where James Mays biggest hurdles were on his excellent toy stories Scalextric programme. sorry the driving is a little jerky i was using keys.

Mr Poopingbotham, that boy racer car at 1.13 is a Lancia Delta integrale. One of the greatest cars ever built.

unfortunately the deveopment of the site away from a racing circuit began in 1939 after the last race, when aircraft production took over a larger pecentage of the site when the aviation industry left in the mid 80's the land was reclaimed for housing and business developments, thankfully theres there is still a large ammount of original features and the excellent Brooklands museum

I saw Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines and I so want to skate the race track. Upon a google search I found out that the track, as well as the buildings, were all sets built as a replica of Brooklands.

I used to love playing 'Stunt Car Racer' on the Amiga, also made by Microprose.

I love Brooklands - the history, the exhibits, the atmosphere, friendly staff who aren't uptight about tripod use. Long may it continue - go there tomorrow, it's just off the A3, entrance fee is reasonable and 'gift aid' optional. I think I'm due for another visit soon. Rated and favourited.

went round the long bit of the track thats left there on my bike today. cant believe what they've done to it though, knocked almost all of it down built houses and warehouse supermarkets etc. how could someone do that to the worlds first purpose built race track. and even the bit that i went on (one of the bits left) was full of all these plants up on the banking coming through the cracks.

@cdbcdbcdb if you had read the discription it says its Microprose's Spirit of Speed 1937 so Im not trying to pass that part off as the real deal, only the bits that are filmed at the real Brooklands, which sadly is incomplete so the game is used to show how it was, the commentary relates to James Mays Toy Stories tv program where a Scalextric toy race track was placed on the run of the original circuit and points out roughly were the main hurdles were

@DJDrOWNZ sadly the circuit was a home for british aviation (not that I dislike aircraft quiet the contary) and after the war Brooklands was sold to vickers who took down part of the Byfleet banking for a runway and I suppose they thought it would never be used again so allowed it to be decimated, and I have to agree it is sad that the circuit is incomplete

I've never heard of the game Spirit of speed 1937. Decent graphics for 1937, j/k. Cool, very niche. I'm going to look for an Assetto Corsa or GTR2 mod of this track when I have time. I saw the comment by MrFerraristadoc that rFactor has this track mod so I hope someone ported it over to the sims I have. I'm also interested in Avus Berlin. There's mods for Isle of Man and Linas Montlhery so maybe.

I have a copy of this game, and even though it's very dated as far as video games go, it's still fun to drive the old Brooklands track. Very fun!!
