Then he paused and with a sight laugh added "...and charged by the DOJ", which I took as slight jab at them and their on-going witch hunt. He has often expressed his disdain for corruption and I would bet that the blurring was a pre-requisite to the tapes being released (probably a "national security" concern), of course in addition to the reasons he stated. He's a constitutional lawyer and fights for the rights of Christians. It will take something less explainable than this for me to turn on my brother and the tip of the spear. JMO.

I feel like he is full of s*** because I watch stuff all the time where people are committing crimes or have committed crimes, and their faces are not blurred out. At least from a social perspective, the current speaker would be considered quite right wing. He is from deep red Louisiana and is quite the religious social conservative. I also think he probably likes this power that he didn't have a few months ago as a GOP back bencher, when only political junkies knew who he was.
