Greatest miracles of Singapore: - Low taxes - Hawker centers - Wormrot PS I've been around for a long time, I haven't been impressed by a grindcore band in decades! A standing ovation from me! Thanks to Frank and the co for capturing this as I wasn't able to attend!
I saw them playing with the almost same vibe as this video, in front of about 40-50 audiences. It was at a tiny live club in Busan, a local city located in S. Korea. It looks like nothing else matters to them but playing music. Unforgettable memory...
Same thing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It seemed that they're just as energised in front of 50 people as they are to a crowd of 50,000 strong. Blew every other band out of the water.
I've never been happier that the PPA impounded a band's van than when Wormrot had to play a second show in Philly. I will forever try to make it up to them on behalf.
It is called a shitty wannabe-technique. It doesn't sound good and it can create a lot of problems with the pickup pattern. Just watch SMG Studio's video about cupping the mic :D
it's not. the thing is. wormrot is a performer, He knows how to do vocal and for a long period of time. different situation on the studio. And, not every youtuber engineer is good. especially the one you mention, just bad. cupping the mic adds a distortion effect fyi. it's not about perfection, it's about creativity. did you notice he does not cup the mic all the time. He did that to get the sound he wants.
Bad technique is bad technique, no matter who's doing it. Just because they're around for a long time doesn't mean he has the best technique. Look at Lars Ulrich. If I apply the same logic that you used I could say he's one of the greatest drummers of all time. I mean, he's been drumming in Metallica for a seriously long time. Even if he uses it for a special "effect", this effect can be achieved way better when holding the mic at it's handle, like it is supposed to. Then his screams would be way more badass. It doesn't matter if you like Glenn's attitude/his mixes or not. I'm not a fan of everything he does/says either but he knows audio engineering basics like this. Seriously, at least get your facts straight dude :D Cupping the mic doesn't add any distortion effect... If it does, it's because you're clipping the mic pre with it, which can be achieved in better ways. A hot driven tube preamp, a saturation or distortion effect does add distortion. But NOT cupping the mic. What it does is changing the polar pattern and giving you the sound of someone screaming with a roll of toilet paper before their mouth. I doubt that this is what he's going for when he's cupping the mic.
Ask him why he do it? everyone has different ways to do vocals. just because one person says it's bad then it is. it's not. Every one has a musical preference and how to achieve the sound he wants. this is not engineering talk, it's artistry of vocal technique. maybe he wanted to get that jacob bannon or frank mullen vibe or just a specific growl notes. nah, you dont care. as for drummers, just like I said everyone is different. lars is not a good example though. too bad.

The best metal band to ever come out of Aisa. Fight me.
Aidan Rutter Sabbat, Abigail, Barbatos, Impiety. Punches thrown.
A few more jabs with Deiphago, Sigh, Rudra, Abhorer, Gotsu Totsu Kotsu. And an uppercut from Loudness.

Sound is a bit off here... shame.
Great show as always. Guitar tone sucks, though, no balls at all.
Admiral Bongo You Can't go wrong with HM - 2, buddy
Doesn't sound like an HM-2 to me.
Admiral Bongo HM-2 + Bass OD + NS-2 with splitter within 2 amps
Diva Iswara Really? I'd expected HM-2 to sound more gainy.
There's a shit ton of gain my dude
Great band but he needs to stop cupping the fucking mic its knocking out those beautiful fucking low notes in his screams his highs specifically.
It is called a technique, my friend. period.
