    What’s the longest run you’ve ever done?

    I love this series! It is so motivating. It’s really cool you are making a kind of new content for runners that hasn’t really been made before. It’s down to earth, fun, and entertaining. But it also includes real data, tips, and training advice!

      So true!! Stitches are often due to dehydration so having some water can prevent and help! I've just done a half marathon and my water bottle was a LIFESAVER :)

    Hey Emma! During my first marathon training I only ate goo during my long runs and during my marathon my stomach got SO upset and I grabbed some pretzels from the sidelines after feeling like I was dying. I definitely recommend incorporating some salty carbs (like pretzels) during your long runs :) keep up the awesome job! I'm currently training for marathon number 3 and your series makes me feel like I have a training buddy!

      In all honesty, none of these goos can do what a simple (piece of) banana does for you during long runs. Sometimes I'd use nuts, salted or unsalted. Keeping it simple and natural was the answer to all my stomach issues while running.

  • @NathalyEckman
    @NathalyEckman 5 лет назад +7

    Longest run I’ve ever done is 13.3 miles. Don’t worry about running for an extra hour lol. I used to think that all the time during training. But somehow it just happens.

    AWESOME running loved it, it's amazing how every distance of running can be tough, I did 50miles the other weekend, but running 1 mile fast is super hard. I shared that run on my channel, as you said it's more mental than physical.

    A good rule for long runs and gels is to take one every 45 minutes! I do that when I run for anything longer than an hour and it really helps. Also I’d definitely get a belt that holds water bottles and take a couple ounces every 30 mins, especially with the gels. Really enjoyed watching these videos and looking forward to seeing the rest of your training!

    Good run Emma, can’t believe you didn’t take water with you, you should definitely have some water at the half way point, so you don’t dehydrate also the water helps u drink the jel, don’t forget to have a green smoothie drink straight after your long run to replace the nutrients & electrolytes, an excellent smoothie i have is, I’ve been doing some 3 hour runs, smoothie helps for sure, coconut water, with banana, some dates, tsp spirulina , linseed, some green leafy veg like kale, hand full of nuts & raisins, some other fruit in season like, blueberries or mango are top, good luck with the long runs :-)

    Your heart rate was high probably because you were dehydrated. Easiest way to bonk in a marathon: not drinking enough early in the race. Speaking from (recent) experience. Humans can go weeks without food but only a few days without water!

    Put watee in your trunk if you dont want to carry any that way you can run out for part of the run then back to your car for water. I usually run an hour before consuming water or gels

    Nice work! Came for the long run, stayed for the nose blowing 😂 I think you're supposed to have gels or carb drink around every 30 minutes. Nutrition can be one of the hardest things to pin down, so good luck with that part of your training!

    My coach once said that if you can't afford to travel to high altitude regions for training, just practice breathing only through your nose during your runs.

    • @monkeymenso
      @monkeymenso 5 лет назад +2

      Good thing, but let me tell you a little bit about training in high altitudes. To explaining this quickly, the body creates more red blood cells when the absence of oxygen is low to be able to carry the oxygen needed by the body. In high altitudes, there is less molecules of oxygen, so it takes about two weeks to the body to make changes to the body.
      The point is that your body need to be exposed 24 hours to this condition to make the changes. If you just breath through your nose or use those mask when you train for two hours, the body won't create the changes of high altitude because the other 22 hours of your day you get enough oxygen.

    Blimey. What a big Millennial fuss about nothing! I started running 8 months ago and regularly run for over 2 hours without thinking about it - on roads and cross-country trails (harder). Slice of toast with peanut butter and off I go. No foam rolling or foot massage, no gels or liquids. Just Do It.
