Joey Bada$$ dropped this song at the perfect time when people were saying NY hip-hop is dying, while everyone was copying the same trendy/catchy sound of the time, Joey released something that brought hope back to hip-hop let alone NYC hip-hop that old school beats and lyricism still exist. Classic track and is solely the reason I’m a Joey Bada$$ fan til this day 🙌🔥🔥🔥. Also great to know Joey is doing his thing as an actor now which he’s not bad at doing, just talented all around 💯
1999 is a very good mixtape

Classic in my opinion. His best work to date.

Shouts out to Freddy jochaim for this classic, Joey did justice. 9 years on I still feel the same way I felt when I was 13
Joey literally manifested everything he said on this song word for word, bar for bar! The tongue holds so much power. I’m so proud of how far he has come. I was a junior in high school when this came out & now he’s on TV! I hope that he’s proud of himself 🥺❤️🙏🏾
These are the type of songs that don’t need a hook. Pure perfection
Joey’s most repeatable song. Can listen to this in every mood and every occasion.
One of the few songs that give me goosebumps everytime I hear it. The beautiful sample and extremely chill beat, along with joeys wordplay and old schoolness.
Exquisite and lovely. 👌

Jay-Z said to Joey 'That waves track, that is it'. Imagine hearing that. Amazing stuff.
why would joey care bout what jay z thinks of his album?
Adam Grabowski Jay Z flew him out to meet him at the Rocnation headquaters to discuss music business with him. It was a good thing. Of course he would care, any musician would care if Jay Z randomly flew you out for meeting.
Adam Grabowski Umm because hove is a fucking legend maybe? His music may not be consistant to his older shit but when someone whos been so successful doing this and making one of the greatest albums of all time, tells you that you have a dope song-- i imagine brings on a damn good feeling...
Yeah bro he mentioned this in the Combat Jack interview. Did you hear the 2 new songs that were previewed from B4.DA.$$ "Blue Collar" and "Check My Style"?

Happy days bro!!!
i see 1999 as more of a classic. B4DA$$ will be a lot harder and with dark heacy beats. 1999 fits the name of a classic better. shows what we's capable of. he's only just started to experiment with a new style for his debut album and it works
Alex Smith
Depends how you understand the word 'classic' when it is applied to a hip hop album. I see it as an album that is so good, that it quickly gains the respect and presitge of a 'classic' album i.e. a old and well known album e.g. illmatic, low end theory etc. I think you're understanding it in terms of the music reminding you of the old school boom bap style hip hop, which B4.DA.$$. defo has, expect that it is given a much more modern twist as opposed to 1999 which was a lot more conservative. Imo, the fact that Joey is taking the old school classic sound and morphing it with a personal and new school touch is far more respectable than just spitting over old school type beats which have already been heard (not saying that 1999 is bad, its one of the best mixtapes I've heard, I just believe this album is gonna genuinly FUCK SHIT UP from all sides). This is gonna be some Illmatic type shit, watch it
If I said this was one of the greatest beats ever would y'all get mad?

Cole made False Prophets on that beat way after Joey Made that song (both are amazing though)
Kristian Kolev that's not what i meant, both of them stole the beat from Freddie Joachim without asking him. At least, i haven't heard either of them reference Freddie. If you know about either of them mentioning him for making the beat as an album release, i would like to know about it.
