  • How to camouflage your campsite in the bush. In this video I build on my previous camouflage video and discuss the principles of camouflage and concealment when you need to hide a campsite. This can be used if you're stealth camping or in real danger. Having good camouflage skills puts you at an advantage in anti-tracking, concealment and escape and evade as the target indicators that we use to find someone is what you should be avoiding in camouflage and concealment. In this camouflage and concealment video I discuss different ways to camouflage and hide a camp site, how to camouflage your gear and considerations around camo netting.

    Smel is also a big one, if you do not want people to find you. The odor that the soaps and products use to wash our ourselves and clothes, can be picked up easely by trained bush people. To counter that, can use boerseep (tallow soap) to clean everything. Thank you for the great video Clarise, have a great weekend.

    Rule number one, don't be where you don't want anyone to find you. In other words go ahead and set up your camp site and camo in, but then don't stay there. Instead camp within view of the other site where all your stuff is and surveil it at a distance. It is much easier to hide just your body than it is to hide all your stuff. Then If they appear to be tracking you, use your escape and evasion tactics to flee the area!

    I found your channel just a few months ago and I am very glad i did. This video on campsite camouflage is to the point and covers a lot of thinking behind one form of self defense. The basis I took away from your class is using your brain to use what you have on hand combined with what nature provides you to blend into your surroundings. I am amazed your channel is not bookmarked by more viewers. To be honest I am in the process of downloading all your videos to archive them. I consider your topics and instruction that valuable. I especially liked that you mentioned the efforts taken by King David to escape and hide from his enemies. What an Excellent example. I hope this means you are a Christian? I pray your efforts to help others as well as protect you, your family and friends will not go unnoticed by G0d Himself. I am in the US, we use to hear about things happening in South Africa but that info no longer is reliable. So what i know and understand about your country is very limited. I just know the basic forces working against people no matter where you are in the world. Are working against everyone and information such as you present is needed. Thank you so much for all your efforts. May G0d continue to watch over you, your family and friends.

      @@LiveReady Hi, I meant to ask when talking about the growing concern posed by drones with IR and other military hardware for tracking/finding folks. I was wondering if a single or a few layers of mylar ER blankets placed over the engine compartment until it cools would help deflect the heat enough to not register with a drone as a vehicle? Any thoughts? Is there something better than an ER blanket? There is so much I would like to talk to you about. I hope some day we can.

      Hi there! I think we are in trouble with cellphones as they can be tracked and they should probably be off ( if not discarded) when in serious danger and used only for emergency calls (not that I think you're going to get much help with a phone call). What might be best is to know what the local radio frequencies for the 4x4 clubs, farms and security companies are and just listen in from time to time, keeping comms to a minimum. In the desert, or vast wilderness, get a sat phone. Use all of it at a bare minimum. C

    Good video and good topic as camou might be really helpful in certain situations.
    Yet, IMHO, it does not make much sense to use in the desert a camou net over the vehicle (other than in order to having a bit of a shadow, even though that shadow shouldn't be exactly over the solar cells), if you left a couple of miles of clearly visible tire tracks in the sand leading directly to your camp spot (see e.g. @ 2:13 or 15:38). You can try to drag something behind your car what erases the tracks or you can drive over a rocky area if possible, or maybe you could drive until it is dark (and then go in 90° some hundreds of meters away from your former track direction), but if you simply leave the tracks there in the sand as they are and stop somewhere during daylight, you can be easily found, either by someone tracking you on the ground or even more easy from aerial view.
    Another aspect one should think about is how to fix the camou net or whatever other concealment items like twigs etc. Means if you suspect that somebody is trying to track you and you might finally have to leave your camp spot as fast as possible under certain circumstances, you should fix your camou either in a way that you can move the vehicle under it immediately by leaving the camou stuff behind, or you should fix it on the vehicle and in the surroundings in a way that you can remove some holding points in under a minute or so and move the stuff afterwards with resp. on top of the vehicle. Else you would loose a lot of valuable time getting your camou stuff out of the way ...

    Go old school hide vehicles below ground in trench, blackout lanps and mirrors , vehicle colours should be simular to background, same for cambo netting.
    Noise travels a long way at night, so keep it to a minimum. All this need practice and not done cold.

      I think we could come up with plenty of pros and cons either way. If I compare it to my more rugged but certainly very durable safari tent then I see other disadvantages there too. I think it depends on what you had on hand when you got into trouble in the first place. If you were just on holiday for example, one may not always have the time to plan for alternative gear. C

    Light discipline. I think you should probably anticipate any military group as having night optical devices, 20 year old camcorders have night vision capability, you should anticipate that all the way to thermal optics courtesy of the Chinese government. If you are concerned about someone hearing you or coming to your campsite because it is established or the only source of water for 20k, you haven't chosen your campsite well. Destroying the tracks your vehicle makes as it goes perpendicular to the road, is probably the easiest way to keep a military group from discovering you if you aren't in an area of routine patrol. Modifying your vehicle to achieve positive control over all lights is probably the single most important decision you can make to assist your light discipline efforts. Using dedicated red or blue lights prevents someone from fumble fucking the vehicle lights. There are multi-day long courses on this shit and if getting murdered by machetes in the bush is a genuine concern, I suggest you take one of those courses. A well known local professional, or a foreign professional if your concern is the local course is with a unreliable local just trying to get paid.

      Thank you for sharing this knowledge.
      The local laws where I live compel all additional forward lights be added to the high beam switch. Concealing the isolator switches and running a parallel circuit alleviates this problem. Just so people know there are ways to comply, but also get around the real reason for some of the b.s. laws we are afflicted with.

      I totally agree on the light discipline but I think people also underestimate how much noise they make, especially in a quiet forest. The other thing I've noticed is that people tend to let their guard down too easily, just because they haven't seen anyone around causes them to think there isn't anyone. In an unrest situation there would be many others seeking concealment in the bush. I'd actually move camp regularly. Thanks for mentioning vehicle tracks, I bring it up in the next video in this series on vehicle camouflage, it's quite a messy business so keep an eye out for it around the end of June 😉 C

    The best protection is to fully understand under which parameter you operate. In military terms we speak in permissive, semi permissive and non permissive enviroments. Each comes with different levls of danger and considerations to take.
    When you are in an semi permissive enviroment and you faild to asses the situation at what it is and you come to the wrong conclution that you are in an permissive enviroment things can have fatal consequences.
    The best place to see this thing right now is the ukraine conflict, even if you are not an combatant all of ukraine can be seen as semi permissive enviroment and an area ~30 km from the Russian/Bellarus as well as the front line is even more dangerous and blurs the line between semi and non permissive.
    If you place an Base Camp in any of those conditions you need to take several considerations for yourself, and your group traveling with you.
    I would take the acronyms 7S and (Shape Shadow Shine Silhouette Sound "Speed") as well as COOL-E (Cover and Concealed, Off natrual lines of drift, out of sight sound and small arms fire, Large enought to fit entiere element, ( in case Easy to defendable for short period of time).

    • @LiveReady
      @LiveReady  3 месяца назад

      Probably best to assume a non-permissive environment if you need to conceal anything at all and act accordingly. Plan for the worst and hope for the best then your behaviour should be in line with the worst case scenario anyway. Thanks for sharing your thoughts here, and for adding the COOL-E acronym, I've made a note of it. C

    I have to laugh at camouflage with the use of roof top tents. These 2 things are directly in opposition. Camouflage works best when combined with a screen of surrounding vegetation to break up your outline. That requires a low profile, not a roof top flag that screams come get me!
    The rest of it is not bad though. Especially shiny stuff like her glasses on top of her head.

    • @LiveReady
      @LiveReady  3 месяца назад +1

      Hey Ken, you're right about roof top tents and keeping a low profile, but it would also depend on the surroundings and situation. In a forest where I'm trying to remain concealed from drone footage, 'stacking' my camp by using a roof top tent would actually make my ground footprint smaller from aerial surveillance. If I'm not worried about passers by then the trees are sufficient lateral cover. Again campsite selection also plays a role. One other thing about roof top tents is that you spend 5 minutes closing them before you can move off if you need to leave in a hurry which can delay departure. Just a few thoughts. Thanks for sharing your input. C
