A more refined way of filling shoes , instead of paper balls, is to take some nice socks, fill them with lavender seeds, close them with a nice ribbon. They will fit nicely into any shoes and be a fragrant shoe tree .They'l look so good in your closet. Lavender gives the inside of your shoes a fresh scent, and will also chase moths away. Even better,if you have time and know how to sew, is to make some out of lovely printed fabric, matching the colour of your closet..

    More shoe tips:
-learn the right way of breaking in your shoes/shoe type
-some shoes should NOT be cleaned with water, understand what type of care your shoes require
-have a trusted cobbler (very helpful for nicer shoes)
    - girls with bigger feet will have an easier time finding a variety of shoes that fit more in western countries/stores/brands [size 40/US 9 is often the biggest female size in Asia]
-visually be aware of your shoe size when picking out shoes (smaller feet do better with chunkier shoes but might look disproportionate with thigh high boots)
-keep a personal collection of shoe items like anti-slip, waterproof spray, polish for leather, heel attachments for not sinking into soft grounds, sole support (just whatever you and your shoe collection would need to be wearable and presentable)
    - for long term storage, humid places, sweaty feet I recommend getting something for moisture, this is very important with real leather or shoes you care about in general
-heel lovers will find those compact ballet flats helpful in their bags or even just a pair of socks

I couldn't agree more, I come from an indian family, and when a friend put his feet near my face and joked about wanting me to touch them I was livid. I was taught that your feet should never be near someones face and to touch someone's feet is a sign of respect and is mostly done to elders to show respect or to ask for blessings. Regretfully, even after explaining this to him, he continued to do this and was extremely insensitive and rude, safe to say, I dont talk to him anymore. If someone cant respect cultural differences, you shouldn't give them a single moment of your time.

As a cultural note: Canadians also take their shoes off when they come indoors. Our reason is probably that our winters are really messy... our shoes really are dirty lol. I always wondered whether Americans really did wear their shoes in the house or if that was just television.

    • @AlerianeDespins
      @AlerianeDespins 3 года назад +3

Usually a second pair of shoes does the work. It's kind of a must to bag one in during spring and winter. But, I've totally seen some shoeless indoor during casual parties. Shoeless casual guest is extremely frequent, even during summer with a friend or close relative in small groups.

I come from an American Asian household and we always have two pairs of shoes. Like "Fiddler on the Roof" when Tevye says: "we have traditions for everything."
Typically, at family parties I carry a pair of indoor only convers. I will add insoles or if I am with sportier friends, bring clean indoor sneakers (trainers) for whatever we have planned that day. It seems like a hassle for people who never deal with it, but it really does help prolong the life of your floors and their cleanliness. At my grandma's everyone washes their feet before and after exiting the house.
Most of my "full Western" friends don't take off shoes in the house unless they're very muddy. So far as I can tell, when they do have messy shoes they put on a cleaner pair from a rack beside the door.

    • @Yellow-Rose

Believe it or not some homeowners would prefer you keep your shoes on bc to have people walk on your floor in their sweaty bare feet or in their dirty socks is disgusting. I'd rather them wipe their shoes on the mat that's provided outside the door, and there's also another mat on the inside of the door.

Hi, American here 👋 I have had the unique experience of living in Florida, NYC, and California - and I'll tell you that America is a huge country with a variety of cultures, and there's no hard and fast rule about shoes on or off in another's home here. It's considered a bit more intimate to take your shoes off here, so you certainly would never at a dinner party or with a group of people you may not know yet.
Winter in NYC was quite messy, and I was surprised by those who did not have guests take their shoes off, because NYC only gets dirtier during slush-ice season. But to each their own.

I'm from Central Europe and we tend to wear slippers at home but for dinner parties it'd be ridiculous for people not to be able to wear shoes, it'd ruin their outfits, guys wearing a suit and a tie and then these slip on slippers made of cloth on their feet.

In the Nordic and Scandinavian countries as well in Central Europe you take your shoes off when entering your house or others’ house. You can wear wooden shocks that you can carry in your bag when you visit others. If you visit friends, they usually have visitors’ indoors shoes sat the entrance and you can wear those. Many other people who are not your close friends will have also visitors indoors shoes that they will offer you to wear when you enter their home. If you feel more comfortable wearing your own, carrying a pair of nice thick socks or very light flat shoes in your bag is a good practice. I usually carry a pair of ballet slippers in my bag for those situations, because that’s the lightest you can find to keep in your bag in small dust bag. :) -S I really like your videos, which I just discovered today.

Actually, if you took off your shoes at a house in Spain, it would generally be considered really weird. I think it also depends on the type of floor that homes have. For example, here in Spain, carpet is not common at all, and the floor is normally cold and can allow the footprints to be visible.

Growing up in an Italian family, we never wore our shoes in our home. We all had our own slippers on a little bench area. Our shoes went under and the slippers went in the center. So they would always be clean. My family still has this rule. And my husband and I have slippers with our monogram on the toe. I keep some different sized washable slippers hanging in linen bags with sizes on the outside for guests to use. Especially in the winter. It’s cold and of course I wouldn’t expect them to walk around barefoot or in socks. Our floors can be a bit cold. And I agree with you completely on the comfort statement. I don’t care how good shoes look on, if they are uncomfortable I just won’t purchase them. I think this is a good point to make for brides. You are going to be on your feet for hours and hours. Get some nice classic comfortable ones and if you can, break them in beforehand. And if you plan to change your shoes at some point during the reception (as I did) I made sure that they still fit with my dress. They were white ballet flats with a small satin bow to match my wedding.

Ask regarding the shoes (grew up in North America and everyone we knew removed shoes). Many places with geography issues such as sand, snow, mud also remove shoes. We never wore shoes inside and Hollywood is Hollywood. The host can always let you know what they prefer, they may switch to 'house shoes'. If you see uncomfortable they may have you leave them on and then clean after you leave. There are studies that show wearing outside shoes into the home is not clean. Please do a video on long term foot health in regards to shoes, what is comfortable now may deform us later and the actual heal heights or how long you can wear the shoes before feeling discomfort. Do you carry spare shoes?

A good pair of heels generally shouldn't hurt. Look for good construction and quality materials! There are brands that won't break the bank, especially if you look for sale items (purchase basics after season, for instance, for the next year). Do not buy off Amazon, those are usually Chinese fakes; purchase direct from the manufacturer or a retailer with a good reputation. The brand I go with usually costs around $150-$200 full price for a pair I can wear for literally years upon years with care (solid, comfortable construction, leather/quality materials), but I purchase basics after-season for around $60-80. I wear "sky-high" heels, and they are comfortable. I have mid-heels that I can wear walking all day in the city -- it's worth it. I mean, you can buy a pair of garbage heels for $40 at Target or T.J.Maxx that hurt and feel terrible and are made of plastic, or you can spend a bit more for a great pair you love that look amazing and last for years. I do heels similar to Jamila: I keep a black pair, a neutral pair, also a black bootie heel and a neutral bootie heel + 1 "special" in favorite color (seafoam suede for me).

I do love a quite edwardian look. Blouse and a long woolen skirt. Petticoats are awesome, I mostly wear linen ones but I have one out of wool flanell that makes any skirt winter wearable.
Also, of course layering. Slips are awesome, layer above it a t shirt and then a blouse. And if you're still cold a vest.or some kind of pinafore dress.
Combine with some warm stockings and boots and a long coat and you're elegant and warm all winter.
At least in my book :) I get a lot of compliments, so I think it is a pleasing style

I keep the shoes in their original packaging with the paper inside the shoes and the covers and box. The manufacturer made these because they know its the best way to preserve the shoes. When I want to wear them, I take them out, wear them, take them off, clean, leave overnight to dry, put the paper back inside the shoe, insert in the bag and put inside the box. It elongates the lifespan of the shoe. I clean the bottom of the shoes with tissue paper so i can throw it away then clean any tissue that fell on the bathroom tiles, I dont want my towels getting dirty from the dirty streets.
Thank you for teaching people what schools should have taught us, this is Basic Life Lessons 101 than no one talks about.

You have a very refined impeccable taste! I really love the very elegant blue shoes with the stunning buckle embellishment! Who could go wrong with a classic patent leather pump with stiletto heels! While I love very high heels shoes have become a sort of status symbol so I see a trend of women wearing shoes with extreme proportions that are too near impossible for anyone to walk in and they end up looking ridiculous! If a woman is struggling to walk or they wince in pain with every step the shoe is not for them!
