Honestly I started dieting lately and eating more veggies and fruit and I'm wayyy poorer than I used to be. It's like the USA WANTS you to be unhealthy tbh. it's ugly and i'm tired of living in the US. i'm gonna jump ship
Well yeah the US wants you to be unhealthy. Where do you think they get the money from? Please please watch the documentary " What the health". You can find it on netflix, youtube and many other sources.
where do they get their money from? until now exporting democracy (read as bomb an radioactive munitions) and leaving the rest of the world to remedy to their $h!T! ^^'
Carlo and Bailey I’m sorry to listen that. I’ve never thought about health US problem, but there should be some private little market for fruits and vegetables. Also in corean where fruits and vegetables cost more then gold, they are some little market that helps 🙈
Yes and I can't figure out why? Healthy population=healthy workers that is why our FDA and Gov has good stuff for us. I researched some of your food that is banned here and why, I was deffinetelly shocked! Fertilizer that was banned here for weath in your Mountain dew, growth hormones in your cereals and things like that.
As you said, in Italy (and in the rest of Europe too) standards are higher For example, meat is chosen with big attention. Many products are forbidden here, especially in agriculture and farming. A few months ago I saw that the program “Le Iene” showed a product used in America to make chickens bigger and that product is strictly forbidden in Europe. It’s not just junk food, I think the issue has got deeper roots. P.s. I’m a big fan of yours. Love all your videos and the way you talk about things. You’re very prepared and always open to discussions. Love you!❤️

The thing about expansive schools is so true. In north and south America, the more your school costs, the better it is. In Italy it's the opposite, cause if you have to pay to go to school, that's a sign of you not being able to pass the year without giving money to the school😂. On one hand it's good, because the best schools are free or cheap, on the other hand this reflect so much the Italian way of getting favours with money, and this is a bit sad
hahaha girl I wouldn't have been as nice if I were you - I've lived in France for some time, and even though France is considered expensive in Western Europe, the groceries in France are far cheaper than groceries even at a Walmart in the US. The organic products in the US are absolutely price inflated, it's ridiculous. I think an important issue to mention about the US is its supreme capitalism. This high capitalism makes everything into a business and into making money. Healthcare, for example, in the US is ridiculously overpriced. Prescription medication, overpriced. Why is this? Why is HEALTHCARE, a basic human right, a business???? It is clear that the level of technology and the exact same products with higher standards exist in the EU as well, though the cost is lower and they receive universal healthcare.
Human rights do not generate profits, the point of capitalism is to generate profits, to generate profits you have to steal either from your workers (look at low wage & wage theft) or from your consumers. Add to that a huge apparatus of capitalist propaganda and you get the perfect storm: the exploited are angry and their anger is misdirected to minorities instead of being focused on the exploiters.
Amy Nguyen They receive universal healthcare because they pay much higher taxes. Their taxes go for that which is a good system, but if Americans want that they have to sacrifice and pay more taxes. For sure the medical/pharmaceutical industry will fight against that as it will cut their profits, but it would be a good fight. As for food, I found food was expensive and in smaller portions in the supermarket in both Italy and France but of course the quality was much higher. There has been a rapid decline in food quality in the US the last few decades. Another topic - In Italy it is very expensive to own a foreign car and you pay very high taxes on that. In Holland it would take almost 2 months to finalize the deal for buying a car. In the US taxes aren't that high for a new car foreign or domestic. I think even Japan didn't have as high tax rates as most European countries. Every country has their pros and cons, it's more what you are comfortable with and what makes you happy.

The nationalism stereotype really got me, because there is SO much difference between being a patriot and being a nationalist and so often the two are confused in the United States. The few times I have had the opportunity to talk about it with people from the US there was a nervous feeling about the way the people are taught from a really young age to "love" their country and the consequences this teaching had once they had the opportunity to travel and see other realities.
I remember when I moved from Italy to Canada I gained a lot of weight because my family didn’t have enough money for healthy food. Unhealthy foods were just cheaper, and yet, with even less money, I lost so much weight when I moved back to Italy at 15. Education was the same, I couldn’t get back to what was supposed to be my second year of liceo (Italian high school) because Canadian education was centuries behind. I dropped down a grade and had the same problem. I was honestly shocked when I started school there and learned that history only dealt with America and Canada. In Italy, I had already started learning about the Egyptians and Greeks by then. Eventually I had to go to a private school (CEPU🙄) to catch up. May I add that it’s incredibly hard for a country to be cultured when it is only a couple hundred years old and the education and information that is given to the people quite frankly sucks. (Sorry Tia for this long comment)

As an American, I think you're dead on. It's expensive to eat well, it's expensive to live in a community with good schools, and we're so big, and have so much going on internally, that we isolate ourselves from what's going on internationally.
As a European the idea to be "proud" of your country is extremely strange to me, after all nobody choose the country they are born in. I think it leads to a superiority complex and is testament to a high level of ignorance. The idea that the US for example are the "defenders of the free world" is just such a joke if you actually look at the US's foreign policy, which is definitely not something to be proud of. Moreover, all of the examples you gave (low standards of education, poor quality of food, etc) are all things that the citizens themselves could theoretically address by voting the right people into office or running for office themselves. That's literally how the government works; in a representative democracy you chose public officials to represent your opinions for you. If you want a more just/European style social democratic society, choose a public official that stands for those values.
Not at all that easy. Not when we have lobbies and outside influences affrettino our political system. Hillary Clinton got more votes but Donald trump is our president. “Just vote” is a simplistic response.
And anyways you guys not being proud of individual countries probably has a lot to do with the fact that the last time you were, World War II happened and millions of people died...
Very fair point, however I do think that blaming a flawed electoral system is equally simplistic. Historically, many countries have been able to change their electoral systems from a rather outdated First-Past-the Post style system (granted the US doesn't have a pure FPTP system, but rather a more complicated one with the Electoral college etc but that's besides the point) towards a more fair and modern proportional representation system, by voting those people into office that advocated for these systems. So it is possible. You can also introduce laws that severely limit the power lobby groups/money in general can have in politics, all it takes is enough people in the legislature (again, voted in by normal citizens) to advocate for that change. I do absolutely see your point though, brining about such a large-scale societal change is never easy. Oh and in regards to your other comment: WWII happened because of a totalitarian regime being in power in Germany, not in all of Europe. So it doesn't really make sense to say that that's why Europeans can't be proud of their countries, if anythings the allied countries should be just as proud as the US. Also, I believe that the US nationalistic pride played a huge factor in all the wars happening after WWII, like Korea and Vietnam. Don't get me wrong though, not trying to argue with you, I did really enjoy your video and I think you're bringing up important issues that need to be talked about :)
We literally have laws that say that money is speech and corporations are people (not laws actually but Supreme Court precedents). The government is held accountable no longer by voters, but by whoever pays them the most money and funds their campaigns (Supreme Court made this legal, look up super pacs). I’m grossly simplifying but the only way the change you talk about could come about is through a revolution of some sort otherwise we would have never gotten to this point.
some other points i thought of... ok wwii didn't start exactly for nationalism, but wwi sure did, and the result was the totalitarian governments, wwii and then killing of millions of people. after that i know that for example in germany it as illegal to put up german flags for a while and even today the thing that shocked me the most about germany was that i could barely find any german flags around for my vlog. in italy nationalism is like synonymous for fascism pretty much and you guys are quick to define an overly proud italian as a fascist. not that i'm saying american nationalism is good or anything but i don't think that europeans are just 'not nationalist' because they're more moral. as for the political system, i'd say you do seem pretty knowledgeable about the US one on paper but lobbies, super pacs etc aren't on paper. america looks like a democracy but in reality it's functioning like an oligarchy. things are complicated... it would be the same as me asking why italians don’t just vote for better politicians to fix their problems (instead of just complaining about them all the time. lol jk.)
Yeah, I have to agree with what you've said. I'm only an Englishman looking in, but I think you're spot on to suggest that America's nationalism is a massive factor behind it's 'ignorance'. It's always good to be proud of your heritage and culture, but it's disastrous to be deluded or even infatuated by it. I think it is delusion really: if you truly love a partner and want a long, stable relationship, you have to be/will be perfectly aware of eachother's flaws. Same goes for a country. I think if a person truly loved his own country he wouldn't need to endlessly convince himself that it's the greatest country in the world, he would just love it as it is and want to help work on its flaws. I've also never quite understood the obsession with freedom? Pretty much all of the western world has freedom, it doesn't seem to me something worth being proud of when it's a basic right. We should all be aiming for equality, that would be something to be proud of, not freedom.
USA publicize freedom like microsoft windows does for his security.... everybody know how much windows is secure! :P you publicize exactly what you lack the most!
Joe Lay There are different kinds of freedoms and I can't say all the western world is free - if so why can't you voice concerns or criticize Islam in Britain or Germany or Sweden. It's fine if everybody agrees but what about the people that have issues or concerns or direct criticisms? Why is that not shown as well?
From what I’ve read, the Italian education system is v rigorous ! One of the most thorough, content-heavy, european-wide-focussed curriculum (they really emphasise several european countries’ impact on historical events)
BlueSkies11 true. Most European education is like that - content oriented vs skill oriented US edu. I've recently watched a video about UK vs US education and was shocked, especially at getting extra points other than test grades.
BlueSkies11 that's very true! italian education system aims to let everybody know at least something of EVERYTHING so its programs are very very content-filled, full of notions over notions. the end is not even quite bad because if you study what you have to you are able to know not only things about your country but even ancient and past things of others so you don't feel totally ignorant lol the cons are that the programs are really too filled, students don't have time to really understand all the things they're studying or to deepen their studies or hobbies at home, and the other big problem is that a system so focused on the theory lacks on the practise of the knowledge and on the interaction between the student and the teacher who is seen as somebody who just talks and talks and when he/she doesn't talk then he/she is about to interrogate you.
Martina Valla I really admire it :•) I wish the UK’s education system was like that. I don’t think most European education curriculums are as widely-European-focused as Italy’s is. They don’t emphasise as many european countries’ history as Italy does. I remember talking to a Swedish person who was really ignorant about France’s colonial actions (e.g. The Paris Massacre of 1961 where Algerians were drowned in the Seine). Other Europeans just seem more unaware about key European history, especially in contrast to your average Italian who’s generally aware. Heck I even know an Italian who was taught about ‘The Troubles’ in Northern Ireland - now that’s impressive! Where other European countries lack historical vigour in teaching they make up for it in their language learning; the uk is terrible at both, but our strengths lie in our world leading universities.
Ares Walker This aligns with what I’ve read. I’ve read that Italian students are the most anxious in all of Europe so maybe your very thorough education system explain why -> www.thelocal.it/20170419/italian-schoolkids-make-friends-easily-but-are-among-europes-most-anxious . Still it’s beneficial, I’d rather have an education system that values knowledge even if it does stress you out and means you have little time for hobbies than one that’s bare and lacking in content. My Italian friend was telling me about all the different high schools you have (we don’t have that for high school in England, we do for Sixth Form College) like the Liceo Classico, Liceo Scientifico, Liceo Linguistico, Liceo Artistico etc, - see I just find that so fascinating!
It is also case in all countries of former Yugoslavia. In Croatia we learn our history ( really complicated) and also European history and our curriculum is really european focussed as well.
I one thousand percent agree with all you said. I went to Italy this past fall and these misconceptions I found were very common. But just like you I tried to educate them on American culture while they in turn educated me on Italian culture
You're right about the strict link between food and price. It is something i noticed also in England, a lot of fat people due to the fact that in supermarkets snaks and other junk food are so cheap while fruit and vegetable are of low quality and pretty much expensive.
I'm sorry but I have to disagree. It's true that junk food is well advertised here in the UK as well but, tell me if it's not true: the first thing you see when you enter most supermarkets are fruit and vegetables at the entrance and as you go in the Isle located more in the middle you start encountering the junk, as well as seeing them at the till. Also, it really depends where you go shopping. If you know your budget is looking some type of way and you are kinda short of money, you are not gonna go to Waitrose or Marks&Spenser to buy stuff, those shops are expensive by default and they are more catered for the "rich" and those that don't mind spending, let's say, 4£ on a bag of organic apples. It also depends where you live because usually London is more expensive than other cities in the UK. I have to say that since living in the UK, (I was born and bred in Italy so I can make comparison) it's true that I have more junk food on my way that I need to watch out for as I am someone that cares about her health, BUT also I have a lot more variety of fruits (expecially the exotic ones that in Italy are SOOOO expensive) and vegetables that I can try and enjoy ☺ no hate, just an opinion
+Diana K. Well that is what i could see when i spent a couple of months in Birmingham and i used to go in supermakets such as tesco or sainsbury's. Even in those huge open 24H the fruit/vegetables area was pretty small, products were expensive and also of a bad quality. I know that in some others "posh" supermarkets things might be different but i think most of the people go to the cheapest ones...then also the fact that there are so many cheap fast foods plays a big role in people's food ethic
I used to live in Uk(London, for one year in wood green) and I never go to shopping for fruit in the supermarket because my budget was low and quality of supermarkets too. So I prefered to shopping in local market. P.S: Why do you have ask sorry? You can have our own opinion and me mine( and some point of your are okay). We live in free world speech!
Junkfood is way more expensive than potatos, lentils, oats, regional seasonal vegtable and fruits. Exoitc imported products, good oils and convenience food are more expensive. The main problem is more that people have no time/interest in cooking for themselves and carry it to work/school (I moan myself as well and don't do it everyday) and manufactured foods taste so intense delicious.

I have some serious questions for you Tia, are americans doing something significant (I mean things like protesting) to change the public education situation? At least do they realize the situation? When exactly did the situation become so bad? Also, I personally think that ignorance is a choice in the 21th century, IF people recognize they're ignorant and have access to internet. The problem is that maybe people not only in US but around the world aren't aware of this. Even if it is difficult for me to believe, I think this may be the problem.

it's not really mandatory, it depends on the school. I'm from Germany but I went to high school in Texas for a while and we never said the pledge of allegiance 😅
4bu1 Well tbh when you have places like Texas and the Deep South I’d rather States have independence over their education system, as I don’t like the values and the Education attainment levels I see in the Deep South (to generalise of course). You’re more than welcome to express the things you dislike or find odd about Europe, I personally like discussing cultural differences and I’m fairly thick skinned.
Well, I was an exchange student, but the whole school didn't do it, but I guess it's due to the fact that it was a charter school (so it's privately run), not a normal public high school. I'm pretty sure it's more common in public high schools but they can't make you say it because it says "one nation under God" in it and obviously not everyone is religious... at least that's what one of my teachers told me.
hello Tia. I think you're really smart, just because you can criticize your own country, I see you're an intelligent and mature person. for most things I agree with you, and I'm really surprised at the community you're trying to create: with the right ideals and with people, all mature. congratulations go on. and repeat for me you are one of the most intelligent and mature people on RUclips. go ahead, you're fantastic and I love your videos. i agree. i think america has the biggest "work" idealogoly where its normal to work 50-60 hours a week now a days and it still doesn't pay the bills. so our only option is literally the ramen and the mcdonalds. and most of us don't have the TIME to cook a healthy meal because like mentioned we all work 50-60 hours a week. our system is backwards and its not fair. it always bugs me when europeans think this way toward us

I am a simple Italian woman: I see Alexander Skarsgard come up at 8:00, I pause the video, I comment. Damn, he is a hell of a fine specimen!
America has a strong identity crisis. You don't just say, 'I'm American'. You say I'm [insert race] and American, where as I feel EU citizens can all say that they're Irish, Italian, English, etc.. Also, with recent political changes, America is slowly turning more and more socialist. The millennial generation is way more progressive and is strongly for socialist healthcare and improvement of standards and environmental changes and will, in the next few decades, come to dominate the US government. Like Tia said, there's high income disparity and Americans are VERY productive, but wages have stagnated and haven't adjusted to cost of living (high rent, rising education, etc.) which is why people eat convenience food (fast food) because, frankly, most people don't have time to cook at home. There is not much 'family' structure in America as well. Too many people are getting divorced. And also, healthcare is all about profit over the benefit of the state and the gov. fails to make higher education more cost-effective and is so politically correct that they fail to target core cultural issues (race, income inequality, etc.) that have led to all the problems in the education system and professional industry here. The American gov. is ran by corporate lobbyists who have far more voting power than the average person and control the media, forever perpetuating American issues (and with no compassion for the people, only profits).
One of the annoying things that Americans tend to do is attribute certain characteristics of a couple European countries to almost the entire European continent. I guess that Americans get annoyed when Europeans think certain things about all of the USA, but one thing is to have assumptions about a whole country another is to have them about a whole continent. On the other hand both Americans and Europeans often assimilate too much the countries in Africa, Asia, and South America.

I agree with Tia about fast food (and food in general). I'm relatively poor and I'm American. It's cheaper to buy and eat food that is bad for me (fast food or processed foods and microwavable junk) than it is to buy good, healthy food. It's a sad fact, but if you're poor in America, you're punished for it, not helped.
okay wait tho (im sorry i know this is a lil nit picky) but that song (Promiscuous Girl) was by Nelly Furtado who is Canadian and i just want to note that tho Americans and Canadians are pretty similar we do have A LOT of cultural differences especially when it comes to view points and the way our school systems and governments operate
Not nit picky at all, why did I always think she was American???? Anyways that song was super popular in USA 😅 please tell me timbaland is American at least 😂😭
@Toyin Olivia Jibowu In regards to whether education is under provincial or federal jurisdiction, you are correct, Canada is much like the states, in that education is (mostly) provincially controlled rather than managed by the federal government (though some key aspects of the curriculum are stipulated by the federal government though provinces have the ability to determine how these points will be presented to students ). However when it comes to funding, in Ontario there are 4 publicly funded school systems funded by provincial taxes. Whereas sometimes in parts of the states funding for schools in different districts comes from local taxes. This means that if the income level of one area is very low only so many taxes can be collected and therefore there is only so much money available for schools which is ONE reason that schools in some more affluent areas have more funding because more money is available from taxes. On the other hand in Ontario the government designates a certain amount of money per students to makeup the funding for each school. So smaller schools will receive less funding because there are less students to make up the total amount of money the school has at their disposal. Individual school boards are able to increase or decrease funding to particular schools slightly based on a couple of different factors such as how many special needs students are at one school vs another, the amount of students who speak french vs English as a second language and %of Aboriginal students and how old or far apart schools are. So I'm not sure what might account for this disparity that you have found in the Toronto District School board ( I haven't noticed a problem such as you have described in the Durham District School board that didn't have a explanation relating to factors i mentioned earlier) but it shouldn't be that way according to the way our system is laid out :(
I am sure that even in the US a pack of pasta is still cheaper than a cheeseburger, though. It should not be that difficult to eat a bit healthier. Btw, thanks for your videos TIA, they are cool and very articulated.

Grazie I happened to see one of your videos by chance, and now I'm watching them all, one after the other. It's amazing to see how love for a different culture (and I'm honored in this case it's mine) influences and enriches a person, but above all, how this contributes, even unwittingly, to enrich the culture itself with its own. It's a really simple concept, said and said ... but as an Italian, seeing this country with your eyes through your videos, for the first time I realized that in fact it's really a wonderful place to live ... obvious , it isn't all "rainbows and unicorns", but the fact is that we Italians always have this bad habit of looking only at what is wrong and complaining about it. Thank you
Continua così, adoro i tuoi video!
So right about the price of healthy food. As an Italian married to an American (living in Italy), I have been in the US 3 times and I could notice how hard is to find fruits and veg at a reasonable price. Here (in Siciliy) we can get all the greens we need for the week for 20€ at the local market (super high quality.)
Nailed it! This explanation it's true. I've Been to Italy and noticed the qualities in their foods, the opportunities they have within their education system. Here in the West Coast (LA) in a poor income family we don't have these privileges. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE $$$ 😞
Loove this video! Here's a thing. I ENVY American dating culture. I always say you have a dating culture and most people get married - young, moreover. We don't have one, there's people getting engaged, like, in middle school BUT NEARLY NO ONE GETS MARRIED. Say what??
I prefer American dating too! Having been through it I could theoretically marry Enrico tomorrow and have no regrets because I’ve dated enough to know he makes me happier than anyone. And it worries me he hasn’t had the same experience as me 🤷🏾♀️ but only time will tell
there are studies and statistics that show the more partner a woman had the less probably she wold find a partner and/or be happy with it. We obviously date, but with the assumption of testing for marriage not just for fun and sex... (or at least that's what it was and what the tradition and socially approved way is).
I am American and I think a lot of these stereotypes are true such as the patriotic one but I don’t think Americans intend to be ignorant, it can come across that way because of how many people are raised in a very nationalist way.
hello Tia I hope you are reading this message ... favij (Lorenzo Ostuni) has made a reaction of your video and is apologizing because his fans are insulting you and do not understand the (fans of favij) that you are a beautiful girl and do not think about them because they do not have a dick to do ... Favij apologizes again with you and also with all of us if they have a brain to apologize. I love you Tia continues like this ... ❤
Hello dear, I think you are mostly right, but I guess you should add something important to the American stereotipe list. You just speak English, most of American doesn’t know how to say anything in other languages. which probably is a direct consequence of nationalism. (You can argue that my English isn’t that great too, but I think that is better the the average Italian for an American) Despite many thing you said yourself many American just think to be better than you (not American) just cause they are. When many time this isn’t the case, and I find this really irritating. Another pill to swallow in US is religion and how is used to control many people. The fact that in general you Americans are a lot more violent and you mostly doesn’t respect others culture, just cause you feel that your “freedom centered” one is better. Anyway I personally like American people they are funny and expansive even tho I think that many of them are really dumb, superb and arrogant at the same time. Do you feel the same for Italian ? I really like you channel, a hug from Bergamo.
Actually american people can speak other language, or at least they understand something. Your point is more accurate if you speak about british(especially english) people. Believe on my own experience with them.
On the language part, it depends on American to American, city to city and state to state. I myself speak English and Spanish because of my parents and I’m trying to learn Italian now too for fun, it’s true that because everyone in America understands and can speak a little English (mostly everyone) that we only speak in English to each other because it’s easier and it’s what we use in school and work, there are Americans like me with family that can speak a second language because they were immigrants or because they travel a lot, as well as Americans who’s family has been here for a long time and they don’t travel a lot, so they only speak English because they don’t have to speak anything else while in America. In Europe I wouldn’t say you know a lot of languages because you all want to, but because sometimes you have to, in order to travel and understand other Europeans.
carrapaz America as a whole is still religious, mostly Christian because it was one of our founding fathers ideals and it was a big reason people from Europe and all over the world came to America, I wouldn’t say America is a “Christian nation” but it’s a nation where everyone is free to be super religious or not religious at all, at least nowadays. It can be an issue for sure when you have people claiming they can’t respect others because of their religion but those people are just people with prejudice that are using their religion as a shield to hide behind. When it comes to every American believing America is the defender of the free world, it’s not 100 percent accurate, yes in school we all learn that America helped a lot of countries and that America are friends with a lot of countries and that it’s important to support our military because we have to pretect our country and our friends from people who disagree with our way of life, but we know that America did a lot of terrible things and we know America isn’t the best country in the world anymore but we realize this more now and are trying to fix all the broken things in our government but there are some Americans who see this as an attack on America and that we are ashamed of our country, which isn’t true, we just simply are looking at the bad AND good that our country has done, at least the younger people realize this.
It'sRobert that’s true in my personal case I love languages and that’s why I speak Italian Portuguese French and I’m learning english and Chinese but that’s my case the average Italian speaks Italian and maybe English but in most of Europe everyone speaks at least 2 languages while all the people that I know from the states speaks English only or maybe just a little of Spanish
For the first time I have to disagree with you Tia. I am tired of hearing how expensive healthy food is compared to junk food. I see people at the grocery store filling carts with sodas, chips and pre made meals and other useless foods. People below the poverty line can apply for SNAP (food stamps) and they can receive plenty of money to purchase healthy foods. My husband and I make sacrifices to eat healthy, we rarely eat out because it’s expensive, we don’t have a $100 phone plan, instead we have a $35 one. Eating healthy costs us two $500/600 a month. I rarely see people without a loan for their cars; I see brand new Cadillacs, Mustangs, Jeeps and so on everywhere here. We chose instead to purchase what we could afford without a loan, a 2015 VW and a 2013 Subaru. I understand that eatig healthy is more expensive, but at this point it’s a matter of priorities, some people rather have nice belongings than taking care of their bodies. Obviously not everyone is like that. I agree with the government part, it seems like no one cares about what Americans eat and it saddens me.
Greta Gordon I eat healthy food too, but I'm italian and that costs me about 100/150€ per month. So I guess it's right: healthy food costs more in USA than here
Ummmm but it is though, you even said it. The poverty line for a single person household is an income of 15k a year BEFORE taxes. That’s like 1,250 (which is pretty damn poor even if they’re not in poverty by us tax definition) a month BEFORE taxes. Considering the costs of everything in the states, yes, I as a person making that much would rather save a little more on food. It’s true that consumerism is a thing and there’s always been a kind of competition in the states to be able to afford “things” but i don’t think chopping it up to poor Americans don’t have their priorities right is accurate... but I mean that can be your opinion I guess
You don’t think there is just a culture of convenience as well? Designated meal times are much more common here in Europe, and if you’re giving yourself more time to eat and cook, you’re more likely to not go with fast food or convenience food. Obviously there are a multitude of reasons for the obesity rate in the States but I don’t think poverty=obesity nor the other way round. Really enjoyed your video x
there are also parents that work crazy hours and do not have time to cook healthy meals. because of this, many families have to feed their kids fast food or quick meal options which are rarely healthy! just because you're able to make that sacrifice doesn't mean everyone can. its not always about nice belongings>healthy bodies because some adults need to work multiple shifts to survive and where would they find the time to be educated and cook healthy meals???
I agree with the fat sterotype, but disagree that we as Americans have no choice. Buy a bag of frozen vegetables for around 2 to 4 bucks it can last a week etc... American portions are wayyyyy too big compared to the rest of the world and in some cities in America the basic human life skill of walking is obsolete... but here's the 2nd part... amongst all the people that believe plus size is their genetics, Americans have the top athletes in just about everything except football. If you are abroad and remotely muscular people will guess you are American, Olympic gold medals, health innovations, top trauma surgeons, marathon runners, medical care, fitness facilities etc. We are the worst, but also some of the best.
i mean americans also think that we germans only walk around in lederhosen, only drink beer and listen to jodel music 90% of germans tend to make fun of such people

Hello i’m Italian and I respect very much indeed I love America but on some things I do not give you reason in this video about some things that we think about you...Bye😉👍👍
Bellissimo videoooo...bravaaa ❤️!!!
In regards to fast food, there are rural towns in the US where the nearest grocery store that has fresh produce is an hour away. But there maybe be three McDonalds and countless other fast food restaurants there.

What do foreigners think about Americans? In today’s video we’re talking about the most prevalent and annoying stereotypes Italians and Europeans in general have about Americans and where they come from. What do you guys think? If you want to help me out with adding subtitles to this video here’s the link: bit.ly/2qFVuNV
I for one don't EVER go to fast food restaurants. I avoid them like the plague. Re. poor education, I realize that probably on-the-street interviews seem like they take about 15 minutes to find enough people dumb enough for saving, when it may take much longer (I hope). The thing that amazes me is that sometimes I've seen teachers--TEACHERS--give some ridiculous answers. Also, everyone should know the capital of their own state--that's not a good or bad education thing. That's something anyone should learn just by paying attention in everyday life. Nice job, Tia.
Very interesting Tia, as always! I do think though, that even if healthy food was cheaper in the states, americans would still eat junk food (well atleast the majority). What I've noticed is that many americans just don't enjoy things like vegetables. Maybe its just a cultural thing more than an economic thing?
nabunyam many people in America WANT to eat healthy food. I live here and yes Americans love junk food (everyone does) but I also hear friends/strangers talk about how they wish they could eat healthier all the time! I don't think you understand the situation at all. Also don't forget that the whole "gym culture" thing where people are constantly working out, eating healthfully, and all that started in the United States.. There's many people who actively want that kind of lifestyle but many of these people can't afford it or don't hate access to it for one reason or another.
I'd say, because of the fact that junk food is cheaper, it is much more easy to feed children especially if you're a busy, working parent who doesn't have time to cook. Therefore kids don't grow up eating healthy and never learn to love fruits and vegetables. I used to go to AM/PM which was basically daycare at the school for children with working parents, and some kids would come in every single day with McDonald's breakfast, because it was cheap and easy! If you ever get a chance, watch the documentary Food Inc, in which you can see a head of broccoli costs about as much as 3 cheeseburgers so they opt to feed their children cheeseburgers instead :( it is sad, and I was lucky enough to grow up eating relatively healthy. I can't eat too much junk or else I just feel awful, but I know too many people who grew up never knowing the feeling of their food actually nourishing and energizing them.
Italians aren't taxed THAT much, even in the top tax bracket. I'd say it's more accurate to say that Americans get taxed very little which leads to privatised 3rd level education, poor healthcare, poor infrastructure etc..
Italian tax rates are only slightly higher than my country's tax rates, and Ireland is notorious for not taxing our people, our rich, our companies enough. From an American perspective Italian taxes are high, yes, but not from many other perspectives.
Yes, if you want to be taxed to death, ask god to make you be born Italian. America is a country with a lot of financial issues (big national debt, deteriorating infrastructure on a national level, etc) not because of lack of taxes but because of corrupt and incompetent politicians abusing taxpayer money (like just about everywhere else in the world).
Guys i gotta recognize that lots of Europeans think that Americans are all fat and that they eat junk food every day, but most of them are just ignorant that have never met an American and judge an entire country after they saw just a movie about USA. Anyway I love America and i appreciate that Americans care about what foreigners think about their own country. Ciao from Italy
Filippo B veramente eravamo alleati.
The main ignorant thing that Americans do is referring to their country as "America." Last time I checked America is a continent divided in two (north & south) or simply the Americas. Why don't you refer to your country as the US or the States? I can't even count the times that you call your country America on your channel. Hundreds of thousands probably.
Omg I swear only people not from north or South America care about this 🙄🙄🙄🙄 guess what we’re all aware that America is a continent (two actually) but guess what else, we’re the only ones with a long name that has America in it! People actually from America the continent, know when we’re referring to the continent or when we’re just shortening the United States of America. Furthermore, State Unitesa/o non esiste in inglese! My passport says I’m American so guess what I’m going to keep calling myself that. You guys can stay mad 😂
Your demonym is American, but your country is the United States of America. There is a difference. You can call yourself American all day because that is your nationality/demonym, but when it comes to referring to your country, USA, not America because America covers all the way from Canada to Argentina. Then you end it with you guys can stay mad... Supplementing your ignorance.
Please don't start this BS. You were most likely educated in south america or a Spanish speaking country as you all ALWAYS say the same crap. Secondly, if you knew history or did any research, you would have known it was the Brits who started calling their subjects in the 12 colonies Americans and it stuck. Everyone Knows the US as a America- period. I highly doubt if someone says "here stand the Americans" you're thinking oh they must be from Jamaica or Brazil or maybe Mexico, come on now.
Loved the video tia, as always you demonstrate how much an experience like this can open your mind. However, I have a question for you. In this video you keep highlighting the fact that in America the difference between the rich and the poor is much wider than in Italy, which I totally agree with. Yet if I’m not mistaken you said once that you believe in a liberal economic system where no legislation is needed to control the market. The thing is, Italy has this kind of welfare due to this perfect combination between a liberal and a socialist system (the first few articles of the Constitution show that) which aim to avoid this huge gap between rich and poor. We see America as the liberal country for definition, and in this we see the causes of your poor welfare. So my question is, how do you support liberalism if you enjoy the Italian welfare so much? Just pure curiosity ;) x
Ha, good question. I think there should be a balance. I think for goods and services in the commodity type, a liberal economic system works best in providing quality and efficiency. For social services, I mean healthcare and education... you can’t put a price on these things and the privatization of these sectors haven’t given them higher quality or more efficiency with respect to European counterparts. I don’t think that Italy has the perfect balance because it doesn’t take looking that far outside of the healthcare and education sectors to see where things start to fall apart. Quality service and efficiency is nonexistent in many Italian sectors think transportation and postal for example. People can’t find jobs because companies won’t hire them and companies won’t hire them because it’s so hard to fire them and the lists go on. If I want to look at somewhere with a seeming perfect mix, I’d look to Sweden or Denmark or Germany... but to answer your question, yes, I believe in a balance
If anything I was way more pro socialism before moving to Italy and seeing what a very socialist (dai, it’s way more socialist than it is liberal) is like to live in
Hahah okay you cleared it a lot better now, yeah I totally get what you’re saying in fact what I meant for “perfect combination” was that on paper that is how it should be. Obviously Italy has soooo many problems with its welfare but I was referring to how it is set in legislation. And yes I do look up to those countries as well, their welfare is amazing. My question was purely on that “paradox” and I guess you solved it :)
Tia you should deepen the italian economic history of the '50 and '60, where actually Italian people built up their well being. Moreover It could misleading sustain that the inefficiency here depend on a devoid of privatization. I would not say the Italy and Europe are socialist country, of course their less liberal of USA, but great majority of the public company have been already privatized and for example the italian labour market more flexible then German one, so define us a socialist country It's wrong ,even ours health care is not public anymore with ticket system, and you can not compare it with the american one that is not only private but even inflated ... concluding I talked a lot without focusing on a specific concept I would like just express the fact that Italy is not a socialist country, and most of what you see today has due to liberal policy, so to see when Italy had a far more socialist footprint go back '60
Interessantissimo video!
Ok chill down all,all make steorytipes on all like italy on america and america on italy ,i live in italy and the steorytipes arent true, not even in america are true are all hate lies, btw japan has his traditions, mexico his ,all and by the way a question that all ask to italians we eat like just some cookies because we cant eat so that much that u americans usually eat,and i think this is why we are a little more skinny and afterall Im romanian and i live in italy, guys in italy use the bidet to clean the ass with water or to clean the feet and btw in romania someguys are saying that all italians are mafia and the same to romania that italians say that they are all thieves...but that's not true let's be friends and stop
I think the issue with american people is THE SIZE OF PORTION'S FOODS. You are use to have portion of food (in general restaurants, fast foods and places that sell food) that are not even imagined here, here in Italy there is even a certain kind of stigma about food's portions, it is not like it used to be when my grandparents were young, we eat sooooo less and even in restaurants you see the amount of food is not at all big.
It's a really sad day in our history and we (at least in my area, about 1.5 hours from NYC) always hold memorial events. It completely transformed our country and perhaps even our world because now there is increased surveillance and security *everywhere*. I also think that this affected people in the Northeastern US more than perhaps elsewhere; we were more directly affected by the attacks and a lot of people in the region know someone who died or saw it happen.
Hi Sam Tracy and thank you for the answer. I' m italian so that day had not the same effect that could have in your life but i'm very interested. I was 17yo in 2001. It's been many years since then but i had deepened my knowledge about it. Now , what i would like to know from you is WHO do you think are the responsable for that tragedy . The more i dig about 9/11the more i feel sick ! The truth has not yet come out and the real culprits have not yet paid. This is one of the biggest shame in history !
It's honestly still up for debate and everyone I know is very conflicted on it. I'd like to believe that the government had absolutely nothing to do with the tragedies of that day. However, I do know that there is, more often than not, more than that meets the eye and likely a lot of stuff is covered up about the happenings of that day.
I lived for one year in Usa And I could buy healthy food without spending too much! If I had eaten chips, hamburgers, etc I am sure I would have spent much more. Love 😊

Cristina Ghimp
"Where do you think they get their money from?
This got me thinking: GREED for money is making us unhealthy.
where do they get their money from?
until now exporting democracy (read as bomb an radioactive munitions) and leaving the rest of the world to remedy to their $h!T!
Love you!❤️
Thanks for killing 90% of our Native Americans D Bags
Following Christopher Columbus' arrival in North America in 1492, violence and disease killed 90% of the indigenous population - nearly 55 million people - according to a study published this year. Christopher Columbus is from Italy, which is in Europe. The English, Spain, and French killed 95% of our Native Americans. All of these countries are from Europe. Hey According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the current total population of Native Americans in the United States is 6.79 million, which is about 2.09% of the entire population.

In Italy it is very expensive to own a foreign car and you pay very high taxes on that.

There are about 574 federally recognized Native American tribes in the U.S.

Joe Lay WELL SAID! Amen to that...
USA publicize freedom like microsoft windows does for his security.... everybody know how much windows is secure! :P
you publicize exactly what you lack the most!
Urban Craftworks i'm glad to see americans aware of this pathetic aspect of USA, especially the retoric in the moovies...
Yes. I notice as well in England. If you go in their supermarket you see first junk food.
Ma ci siete? Sta parlando bene dell'Italia e voi la insultate... Bah

The USA doesn’t have a national curriculum?! That’s so strange. The mandatory(?) pledge of allegiance in schools is weird af
it's not really mandatory, it depends on the school. I'm from Germany but I went to high school in Texas for a while and we never said the pledge of allegiance 😅
Herminiame But was that because you were a foreigner or an international student? I’m glad it’s not mandatory though :•)
Herminiame Yeah I think it’s more common in public schools.
THANK YOU for addressing that food access is related to class in America!
Hi Tia, you took the words right out of my mouth, big hello yell out to you from a proud Canadian neighbour who is also living in Italy🇨🇦 🇺🇸
Greetings from Italy 🇮🇹 🇮🇹 ❤️. (sorry if there are any grammatical errors)
i agree. i think america has the biggest "work" idealogoly where its normal to work 50-60 hours a week now a days and it still doesn't pay the bills. so our only option is literally the ramen and the mcdonalds. and most of us don't have the TIME to cook a healthy meal because like mentioned we all work 50-60 hours a week. our system is backwards and its not fair. it always bugs me when europeans think this way toward us
Tia mi dispiace tantissimo per quelle persone che ti hanno insultata...sei bravissima :) continua così...very Good! !

Finally, I’ve been waiting for a video on this topic
As an Italian living in the UK and married to a Brit, I find your videos somewhat refreshing and amusing. Totally love it, well done Tia x
I must say that you are one of the most cleaver and self-aware American that I've ever seen! Great video!
I'm pretty sure most Europeans don't realise there can be cultural differences between the different states of the USA so it's the same...
I always thought you are one of the smartest person I've ever known, Tia. Love your honesty.
Ah, you taped the webcam of your iMac, just like me. I always do that.
I've haven't found an handy way to tape the front camera of the smartphone yet.
pile333 why's that?
Some viruses can activate your webcam remotely, without switching on the led and so you can't even notice it.
No, not yet. I watched some episode of the previous seasons and they were very well made.
pile333 The webcam in iMacs can't be switched on without activating the LED. The electricity has to travel through the LED to get to the camera, automatically turning it on.
I want to apologize for all the horrible comments against you. I want you to know that not all italians are like that, they are only children uneducated. Keep making these videos, you're amazing and beautiful, new subscriber ❤️

Anyways that song was super popular in USA 😅 please tell me timbaland is American at least 😂😭
lol yeah he is! :)
I noticed the same about Nelly Furtado hehe
@Toyin Olivia Jibowu
In regards to whether education is under provincial or federal jurisdiction, you are correct, Canada is much like the states, in that education is (mostly) provincially controlled rather than managed by the federal government (though some key aspects of the curriculum are stipulated by the federal government though provinces have the ability to determine how these points will be presented to students ).
I love how you’re so woke about these things

Grazie

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE $$$ 😞
I love you as a person. Youre so politically and socially aware and considerate and cultured, through the US and italy
Loove this video!
Here's a thing. I ENVY American dating culture. I always say you have a dating culture and most people get married - young, moreover.
We don't have one, there's people getting engaged, like, in middle school BUT NEARLY NO ONE GETS MARRIED. Say what??
are you from Italy? I'm surprised you guys don't have a "dating scene" like us - I feel like you guys are so into romance and stuff! haha😜
I prefer American dating too! Having been through it I could theoretically marry Enrico tomorrow and have no regrets because I’ve dated enough to know he makes me happier than anyone. And it worries me he hasn’t had the same experience as me 🤷🏾♀️ but only time will tell
Sam Tracy I am! LOL I wouldn't trust much the romance stereotype, but maybe yeah dating is too pragmatic, idk.
Tia Taylor I see your point, yet I don't think you need to worry much. Trust him ;) 💟
there are studies and statistics that show the more partner a woman had the less probably she wold find a partner and/or be happy with it.
Ti stimo tantissimo continua così!!❤️
Hello dear, I think you are mostly right, but I guess you should add something important to the American stereotipe list.
You just speak English, most of American doesn’t know how to say anything in other languages. which probably is a direct consequence of nationalism.
(You can argue that my English isn’t that great too, but I think that is better the the average Italian for an American)
Despite many thing you said yourself many American just think to be better than you (not American) just cause they are.
It'sRobert l it’s really a shame that most Americans that I met don’t think as you do.
Brilliant video! Not dumbed down, so really awesome information!! Thank you!
Yes Juliana, that’s another huge point, and then the kids develop eating habits from that
I'm American and I eat mostly organic stuff and I drink mostly water

We are the worst, but also some of the best.

i mean americans also think that we germans only walk around in lederhosen, only drink beer and listen to jodel music
90% of germans tend to make fun of such people
• Following Christopher Columbus' arrival in North America in 1492, violence and disease killed 90% of the indigenous population - nearly 55 million people - according to a study published this year. There are about 574 federally recognized Native American tribes in the U.S.
I hope Italy burns
Hello i’m Italian and I
respect very much indeed I love America but on some things I do not give you reason in this video about some things that we think about you...Bye😉👍👍

No, I can’t say I agree
nabunyam many people in America WANT to eat healthy food.
I like that you take both sides to come to a conclusion. With everything. Great video.
Italians aren't taxed THAT much, even in the top tax bracket. I'd say it's more accurate to say that Americans get taxed very little which leads to privatised 3rd level education, poor healthcare, poor infrastructure etc..
No trust me, you are. You don’t need to make THAT much to start paying like 60% of your income in taxes.
alittlemindification man we Italians are sooooo taxed
I love the way you break things down.
You're very analytical
I just added the last part because you guys like to complain about that on my videos too. Yep, I’m very ignorant 😂
You guys who? I'm from Florida FYI. I'm an American who knows the difference. Maybe some day you will too ;)
Please don't start this BS.
Thank you, you really articulated these things in a way I couldn't. Shared 👍
I would not say the Italy and Europe are socialist country, of course their less liberal of USA, but great majority of the public company have been already privatized and for example the italian labour market more flexible then German one, so define us a socialist country It's wrong ,even ours health care is not public anymore with ticket system, and you can not compare it with the american one that is not only private but even inflated ... concluding I talked a lot without focusing on a specific concept I would like just express the fact that Italy is not a socialist country, and most of what you see today has due to liberal policy, so to see when Italy had a far more socialist footprint go back '60
Sara Pags storta
Interessantissimo video! Gli hai presi quasi tutti! 😂
Redaffam esatto.
Redaffam hai ragione sono troppo nazionalisti
Vai a fanculo
I tuoi video sono sempre così interessanti, continua così, sei fantastica 😍
Ciao Tia , did you ever talk about the events of 11/9/2001 ? what do you and american people think about it ?
Love 😊
