Great comparison. I just wanted to mention that the Parker style refill does fit into the original 849 *without* filing it down or making any other modifications. I do this all the time and it works great, without mis-clicking or anything. The only "trick" is that you have to make sure the crowned juts on the 849's plunger interlock (as opposed to rest on top of) the plastic fins on the top of the Parker refill. Try it out. It does work, and then the Parker-style refill fits perfectly into the 849 ballpoint pen.
Great review as always! Have you tried the Parker IM ballpoint? Looks to be more similar size to new Caran d'Ache 849 rollerball in length and width, compared to the Jotter XL. I find the Parker IM width to be more comfortable.
Thanks. I really like design and small size of Caran d'ache ... at least it looks good on photos and videos. I thinking about getting both 849 and 844. But idk, If I want to experiment with refills and also pencils are 0.7mm which I'm not sure I would prefer. I haven't used them for a long time and I assume that 0.5mm is preferred for a reason. I have ancient mechanical pencil from 70s which is smaller, hexagonal, 0.9mm and I kind of like it cause it's quite nice, all metal and small, but 0.9mm lead feels almost like 2mm. Tip gets flat and it needs to be rotated for sharp tip and clip kind of makes it uncomfortable and I assume that Caran d'ache has basically the same format with the same problem, just more modern
Recently got the 849 rollerball. The ink reminds me of the Lamy m66, which I still cannot figure out what it is (feels like gel but smoother but not as watery as rollers)
On ballpoints: at university I found roughly 3 disposables = 1 Parker refill , 2 Parker’s = 1. CdA , however at that time I could buy the 849 but not the refill and the parker refills for not much more than a single Bic.
I own the Caran D'ache 849 Rollerball, the Caran D'ache 849 ballpoint, the Parker jotter, Parker jotter XL (metal) and many more ballpoints. If it was named Caran D'ache XL, it should use a Caran Dáche refill. It is likely that the wrong refills where ordered. I don''t like the Caran D'ache refill, I like the Caran D'ache 849 Rollerball. I got mine since last Friday (49€). Personally, I don't like adapting of Parker G2 refills to fit a standard Caran D'ache 849 ballpoint. It fits, but the mechanism is not opening/closing perfect. I tried it once and I didn't like it. Of the Parker Jotter XL I own a metal version. I don't like the Jotter Xl while it has a rattle when writing (metal on metal in the tip). The Roller is writing perfect using a Jetstream refill without a noticable rattle in the tip. The original delivered Caran D'ache refill is quite similar and also a good comparable refill. Personally I don't like gell refills while they bleed when writing.
I have bought a CdA 849 Roller in Gray after this video. I do like the size, the fact it can take Parker refills (G2), but I didn't like the clip strengthen (I had to remove and bend it to make it stronger), also the refill is smooth on the beginning, but not that good after use. Also it is a bit pricey for what it is and colour options (should be in the 30 bracket, USD, GBP, Euro). Maybe next year will release more colours and drop the price.
Nice collection you have there. 👍🏻 very informative.. thank you.. I want to get my hands on that rollerball. And the color that you have, that navy blue, is beautiful… 🤩
Nice video! 🔥😇 Can I please get a help? I also have a Parker Jotter pen, the Royal Blue coloured one. But recently I am getting little trouble with its spring. The spring near the pen tip is feeling little hard to be pushed, what should I do to fix that? Any suggestions please!
I had been quite curious about the larger versions of these pens, thanks for doing this. I am not sure if we are getting the same versión of the small 849 in my country. I can use standard parker refills without modification. The problema I have had with them is the diameter. Actual Parker branded refills are too Wide, no problema with their length. I have found other brands that fit perfectly. So it is weird.

I'll try it thanks!
Yup, this is true. Easyflow 9000 in the 849 is wonderful and a country mile nicer than the Jotters for me.

Don’t think so, at least not recently. I’ll check into it. Thanks

A lot of 849 buzz going around, but I've always found Caran D'ache overpriced. Great comparison.
Thanks!
It is overpriced, I got one and the ink flow is the same as the fucking Bic 4 colours 😭
@@Cheeseiscool7 My normal 849 (Broad) is super, best ballpoint I ever owned.
The 849 Rollerball looks like it would be good for field work where gloves are required.

Yea the ink is not bad but it’s hard to pin down
Is there a oilbased ink that will fit the caran d'ache rollerball?

Thanks for sharing all your amazing pens and pencils!
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the thoughtful comment!

Agreed. The pricing is aggressive

Yea I do like the color
I was wondering if the end of the body of the pen is little sharp?
I got mine it writes good but end of the body feels kinda sharp when i touch it
Eyyy man! Hope you're doing well! Nice pens!
Thanks! You as well

I have a question is anybody hear anything about a pen brand which called Europen?
Nope not me
I Prefer the Parker Pens
Best video ever !
Great! You sound like you are better.
