Nothing works perfectly (eraser, coca cola, soap & beer). Eraser doesn't work except on ink on the back of photos. The rest of the stuff I tried kind of works, but also takes off a lot of the original ink too. Just leave it or get new prints (if have backup film) is what I sincerely and strongly recommend
Definitely it is a ball pen. But removing ink from a photo entirely depends on the type of paper on which the photo is printed. If the paper is not glossy type, then it will be difficult to remove ink by this trick. Hope you understand.
I have an old photo when I was an infant, the pen was from 9 years ago... It cannot be erased anymore with an eraser :c

It does NOT work on color photos from 25 yrs ago. Photo is beautiful. Be careful bc the eraser starts to rip the photo.
