      @@Tasjudoka Neil stopped being great long ago. Now he can't pronounce names or countries right, and he never goes beyond "what's gonna happen" or "change of direction". The man had his run, set the tone for current commentary job, and that's it.

    This is my first time watching a judo tourney I'm excited because I wanna learn something different I know this material arts I have to be solid 🪨 but quick on your feet with strength technique and knowledge of the different type of throws in my opinion

    I hope the IJF does hire you for commentary. I find Neil Adams to be tediously repetitive with the phrase, "change of direction." Sometimes I hear myself internally scream when he repeats it for the umpteenth time :) Anyway, I may not agree with absolutely everything you say but I find your commentary very interesting and you have a healthy curiosity with everything that is happening on the mat. Keep up the great work. You will get the call!!! :) They know you are there!

    I believe the term for the shime waza that Niizoe used is koshi jime, the hip strangle, sometimes referred to as a clock choke

      yes koshi jime but under kodokan it is called okuri eri jime.

      @@fiderdvis4714 that is true, but okuri eri jime describes all sliding lapel strangles ranging from the kata form from behind, the hip strangle from the front, and the rolling form where tori almost winds up in a juji gatame position

      I don't think so, a clock choke has the arm under the neck and hips sitting on the shoulder, this looked like a type of loop choke

    The last choke was Okuri Eri Jime, but a form known as Koshi Waza in Japan (from my understanding) or the clock choke in the US because you get your hips involved and then walk around them.

      It's not a clock choke, as the arm is over the back of the neck, it's a type of loop choke

      ​@@PaulGreen-rz4gg I think the position of her arm is a function of how deep her initial grip was and how much the lapel was able to slide before being stopped. It may be considered Kata Te Jime instead of Okuri Eri Jime (since only one hand is engaged) but as I said, I've heard the Japanese refer to this basic form as koshi jime. I've also often been wrong LOL.

    What the Japanese team showed the French is that it is more about technique than power. The French players looked stronger and larger than their Japanese opponents, yet the Japanese won. Respect to both teams, certainly. While strength and size are determining factors, technique is more important.
    I wish Judo was more popular. It deserves more attention in sports.

      She got a half point (waza-ari) for the throw itself, then got another half point for a successful hold for longer than 10 seconds. The two halves made it a full point and ended the match.

    Tajima's throw was the literal definition of an ippon. Not sure how you could see that and think "Hmmmm, that looks like a half-score."

      there is no 66kg category in the team event and hashimoto was a bit injured after the individual competition

      If you look at the weight classes, -66 fighters aren’t good for the team event. Also Japan likes to give younger guys a chance at the teams

      Kind of.
      Funakubo and Niizoe are definetely on the A team right now.
      Tomita has Sone's shadow, but she was the one chosen for the individuals, so she is also on the A team.
      The guys are all from the B team. Might even be C team actually.
      Hashimoto,Ono,Oyoshi are in front of Harada imo.
      Saito, Kageura, Harasawa, Ogawa are in front of Ota imo.
      Mashiyama,Murao, Nagasawa, Mukai are in front of Tajima imo.
