  • Ronald Mandel "Ronnie" Lott (born May 8, 1959) is a former American college and professional football player who was a cornerback, free safety, and strong safety in the National Football League (NFL) for fifteen seasons during the 1980s and 1990s. Lott played college football for the University of Southern California, and was honored as a consensus All-American. A first-round pick in the 1981 NFL Draft, he played professionally for the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Raiders, New York Jets, and Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL. Lott was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000, and is widely considered one of the best defensive backs in NFL history.[1][2]

I saw a Browns V 49rs game in thd old Municipal Stadium.. sitting in the dawg pound with 80,000 fans and you heard the hits from Ronnie Lott. You heard the plastic pads slapping every time Lott hit someone. It was like a car accident. Ive never seen a man hit another man that hard, ever! I watch UFC too!

@John Harris I agree it does not resemble that game. Now incidental helmet to helmet contact will get you a 15 yard flag and ejection . So it is a softer game but it is still pretty violent . I didn't enjoy watching big Gerald McCoy barely bumped Ben Roethlesberger and drew a 15 yard roughing the passer penalty n he could be heard mumbling " my bad Ben ." wtf is going on out there.

PLEASE, PLEASE........Ronnie Lott was UNANIMOUS First Team All-Pro selection at cornerback in his ROOKIE SEASON!! The only reason why Lott was NOT defensive rookie of the year was because Lawrence Taylor was also a unanimous First Team All-Pro selection at outside linebacker AS A ROOKIE and was the catalyst behind the NY Giants defense moving from the 27th ranked defense (out of 28 teams) in 1980 to being the 3rd ranked defense in 1981 AND the Giants making the the playoffs for the first time in 18 years.
Lott was a BEAST as a rookie with 7 interceptions, 3 of them returned for touchdowns.

Lott would sometimes knock himself out. He would hit another player so hard sometimes 40lbs heavier than him. He was feared because of this. You can be assured no matter how big his opponent was, he was going to give 110% of his body.
I saw him in the airport once, putting on his belt after TSA security. I didn't have the guts to come up to him, and also a little awkward while he was arranging his pants. Maybe I was intimidated having watched him play while growing up.

      Hey dumbass! Pay attention!
      Ronnie Lott did it clean.
      Arms & Shoulders.
If he hit YOU with his shoulder pad, he’d kill you.
& guess what? Nobody thinks that’s dirty football.
Mark Bavaro himself wouldn’t say that was a dirty hit or a “cheap shot”.
All the stuff he did, you still can do in the NFL. It’s just that players just don’t do it. There is no discipline or self control exercised like there was when Lott played.
Most of these guys in the NFL today actually belong in prison.
It’s assholes like you that try to call a good thing bad just to make it fit correctly with your opinion. Probably because you were a Giants fan or at least not a 49ers fan.
Have you ever even done any research?
Lott wasn’t just physically dominant he was just as much mentally dominant(smart).
If you’re going to do that then why don’t you just keep your comments to yourself.
He didn’t go out as one of the greatest players of all time & one of the hardest hitters if not the hardest hitter by making, what you say, “cheap shots”

Actually, the rules were changed to HURT the Patriots. The early Patriots were known for their PHYSICAL DEFENSE, so Peyton Manning, Curt Warner, etc. complained to the league to change the rules to force the Patriots to play a more finesse defense. You should learn your football history before speaking. Seems like you must not have started watching football until 2005-2006. Go back and look at early year Patriot teams with Ty Law, etc. They were forced to adjust when Peyton complained. It was PEYTON MANNING who cause the league to become flag football.
