    Great points, Keith. With 2 granddaughters I can think of so many stories that relate to them. However, those may not sell. Back to the thinking board. thanks

    That was some great advice, thank you! I have now subscribed to your channel 👍 I have dreamt about becoming a childrens books author for several years know but I haven't gotten around to it. I guess it's because it feels like a whole new world and I don't know were to start. It does feel a bit risky too, not knowing if I will be able to make an income of it or not. Right now I'm at a point were I'm trying to learn as much as I can about it and then I guess we will see what that leads to 🙂 /Hanna från Sweden

      Any time we try something new there’s the fear of the unknown. Just remember, we all start somewhere. Best of luck! And don’t let the fear hold you back from the experience!

      Chances are your photos are too big and that’s what’s crashing the system.

    I'm in the middle of plotting out a kids book and was hoping you could help me with a few questions, or could point me to where I can find the answers. 1) Photos from stock sites (like pexels) that say free for commercial use are totally free, correct? There's no weird "you have to alter the image" clause to have them printed in a book? 2) The same question but for Creative Commons 0 license photos? 3) If you decide to officially copyright your book, are you allowed to do that if it contains those images? Thanks for all you do, I truly appreciate all the information you share on your channel.

    • @KeithWheelerBooks
      @KeithWheelerBooks  Год назад +7

      No problem, here you go:
      1. Correct, if the image says that it's free for commercial use, they are giving you permission to use it, as you see fit, on items you sell. That said, PLATFORMS may have rules that require you to alter the image before you use it on your books. A great example is Amazon KDP. Amazon cares about their customer experience, so they don't want a bunch of the same images up on their platform. This can cause customer confusion. So, KDP has been coming down pretty hard lately on books, especially covers, that utilize free stock images without any alterations to them.
      *Note: For item #1, I'm specifically referring to FREE images. If they're images that you've purchased and have documentation that you purchased it, and it says free for commercial use, then you don't have to alter the image. Although, if it's something others can purchase as well (ie Creative Fabrica), I still suggest altering them somewhat so that way your book stands out from others.
      2. I'm not a lawyer(I don't even play one on tv), but to the best of my knowledge, since you're not copyrighting the image, you're copyrighting the book which contains the image, that should not be an issue.
      I hope this helps.

      That answer to Amanda really helpful to me Keith. Thank you so much both of you for the Q&A. I'm already put my book for pre-sale, finished a children's story. Doing the final touches and illustration work. I was wondering whether to sketch myself but that will take a very long time for a 78 page book or put some copyright free images or prompt AI generated, however I use some AI Generated pics with my prompted description. Yet AI sometimes does not deliver the imagery exactly on my mind. Got the answer google search for images matches with my story ideas, but which tells the image may be subject to copyright... "Copyrighting the book not the image!" Your idea seems better doing alterations to the image...

    I don’t hear anything about NDA with these illustrators. Fiverr or otherwise. Could you expand on this?

    • @KeithWheelerBooks
      @KeithWheelerBooks  7 месяцев назад +2

      Fiverr covers most of the documentation you need. I don’t do any other contracts, etc. NDAs don’t concern me. The important thing is to ensure you have 100% rights to the illustrations created.

    What book dimensions do I need to create one on Photoshop?
    I want to do it in the landscape.

      What are you trying to create? The cover? If so, what trim size are you going for? I have a video where I show how to create a print cover. Even though in the video I use PowerPoint, the way to calculate the dimensions will work for any software, including Photoshop.

      If you’re looking to do a print book, you’ll want to see what trim size your competition uses and that’ll be a great place to start.

    • @KeithWheelerBooks

      Beta readers are readers that you give access to your unfinalized version of your book and in return they provide you with feedback on the manuscript. Similar to having a beta tester on an app.
