it's so cute how he carries on a conversation/agrees with what you're saying. what a gorgeous black cheek you've got here. very trusting. great job being a finch parent! :)
My GOD this is so adorable. I had a mating pair of zebs and Ive always loved their rubber-ducky like beep noises. :) I plan on hand raising some babies the next time I get the time and money to invest in a pair.
Not sure if you're still replying to comments, but I had a question about male and female zebra finches. I'm in the process of building an indoor aviary that takes up the majority of my living room, and was planning to keep exotic finches. I wanted to start with a zebra finch, but not for while (at least until the aviary was ready). Me and my boyfriend (we live together) got in a big fight the other day, and he was way out of line. He went out with my car, and returned with a little box from petsmart with something scurrying around inside. I asked what it was, but she said "It's a surprise!" He impulse bought two mice recently (grrr, I'm against impulse buying) so I figured from the sounds in the box that it was a hamster or something. I opened the box, and inside was the sweetest little zebra finch I've ever seen. I was on the verge of tears because she was so sweet, and then she darted out of the box! She is free-flying in my bedroom now (she has been eating and drinking and is very happy) and I quickly finch-proofed my entire room. The people at the store said she was DEFINITELY female. This morning, I was talking to her softly while she sat up on her favorite perch (the ceiling fan, which I deactivated so it can't turn on) and she started making the same noise that your male finch is making. The singing clockwork sounding noise. Is she a male that they accidentally sold as a female? I was under the impression that females did not sing. She beeped a lot, but was singing a ton this morning. Bevis is so cute, I love all your vids of him. I'm trying to make a cage for my new little finch since I can't buy one at this hour.
If I'm not mistaken, what it's doing is distributing preening oil. They have such a gland near the base of their tail. Why God decided that was the place, dunno, always seemed kind of odd to me. But they'll occasionally slobber their bill with the stuff and distribute it to the rest of their feathers.
honey you gotta look up the nearest wildlife rehab center in your area and take them there. they'll either have a lot of information for you or they'll raise them the best they can. good luck!
Just be very calm, as soon as they settle somewhere, cover them with a towel or a shirt or something, and gently pick them up. My society finch got out 2 minutes after we got her home. I managed to catch her easily enough. Just stay calm and dont make any loud sounds.
Bevis visits his parents in jail. His mother committed armed robbery and theft of birdseed and millet, and his father assaulted another finch at the food bowl. Both parents have added charges of child abuse for pecking Bevis when he was in the cage with him. They're goin' away for a long time. Lol, jk. They're so cute! I have a pair of my own now, and they've recently started nesting. I love zebra finches.
Yes, I hand fed him from 9 days old, you would need to feed him or her every hour to every hour and a half all through the day and all through the night, I don't recommend hand feeding unless you have the time and don't mind waking up every hour to feed him or her.
Nice birds and great video, I have a question I have two zebra finches and one has black cheeks like in this video and the other one has a brown chestnut colour cheeks, which is male or female? Thanks
If the cheek patch of the black-cheeked one is large and round and not a small vertical line then you likely have two males. :D If the black on the cheek of the blacked cheek one is a small vertical line then it's likely a female. Watch their behavior. Females almost never sing, if they're both singing then they're both likely males.
Did you hand feed him or is he naturally tame because he's a baby? Please answer my question if you could. I have eggs from my finches and I want them to be tame, but I'm afraid of the negatives when it comes to hand feeding.
@ChyronBad hey i know i may sound crazy but crush up the egg shell in little pieces and place it in the food they eat and then put them in the sunlight that idea was so cool because my finch's had 8 eggs in 8 days so yeah try it might work on yours
@aniquna because this one is new born he can't fly at first so he would not jump away from a person's hand and if he walks on a hand very much he become's tame and will ride on a person's hand whe he grows up :)
Michael C. For your information, I was told to cover the cage while the mom was sitting on eggs by a bird expert, I live in a cold climate where its important to keep the birds warm.. and when the birds are your pets you can pick them up and hold them at any age, get your facts straight..I hand fed the baby zebra finch every 1 1/2 hours around the clock until he was old enough to eat on his own.Now stop making foul mouthed comments and go stalk someone else.. thank you very much!!
hey I have a question my zebra finch birds layed eggs and they hatched but I really want to hold them for they can get used to me like yours watch age do you think I can take them out of the cage for they can get used to me and I can take care of I mean the parents take good care of them but if I were to take them out does this mean I have to hand feed them or the can eat out of the dish or should I don't take them out at all? please respond thankyou!! :)
Not long after the babies are able to feed by themselves, they will have to leave, the parents will most likely peck at them for them to leave. I think it's to prevent incest. So it's quite common.
Aww so cute, and it's a boy, unlike the females, they can sing, all a girl can do is peep :) bless though, I'll never be able to Handle my finches, they were 8 months when I got them, not surprised, they're usually birds that dislike being handled :P
Such a shame about how parents treat their babies after hatching :( mine are strange, they constantly laid eggs that never hatched because they became fed up after time and threw them out of their nest! Nasty but that's nature
yorkiemom211, I was saying that Michael C was cruel. not sure what your talking about. I reported him, blocked him, and the same with Pat Croft. THINK YOU MISUNDERSTOOD WHO I WAS DIRECTING MY COMMENT TO
Pat Croft, Not sure what your problem is, the birds are just fine!!!! The parents have raised other babies to adulthood. Take your foul mouth off my video page or I'll report you!!!!!
Michael C Not sure what your problem is, but the birds are just fine.. and the parents have already raised other babies to adulthood, now please take your foul mouth to some other video!!!!!!

My earballs exploded from the cuteness of the noises made from that bird.
earballs?
I love this women: Sounds like Lois Griffin, Linda Belcher, and Fran Drescher all rolled into one.
Only a caring, gentle person could earn the trust of such a tiny baby bird. Amazing how it hops right onto your hand.
it's so cute how he carries on a conversation/agrees with what you're saying. what a gorgeous black cheek you've got here. very trusting. great job being a finch parent! :)
I love getting 11 year old zebra finch videos in my recommendations
This is the literal definition of a ball of cuteness
"Beavis" what a precious name for a little birdy.
Haha my male finch beep'd every time the baby said a sound xD
My GOD this is so adorable. I had a mating pair of zebs and Ive always loved their rubber-ducky like beep noises. :) I plan on hand raising some babies the next time I get the time and money to invest in a pair.
