In '83, I went the ARMS concert in Dallas. A benefit show for someone in the music biz who was seriously ill. It starred Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, and Eric Clapton. I went wanting to see Page and Beck. Clapton, I didn't care about as I was only familiar with his mega-hits. I left the show a complete Clapton fan. I was amazed at how naturally he spoke with the guitar. Just like we speak with our voices. We don't have to think about the inflections, the pauses, the tempo, etc. We just say it. That's how he played the guitar. Later, I learned about how he gives back with charities and concerts to honor and/or help others. He is a class act as a person and an icon as a musician. When you learn about the struggles and tragedy he has endured... well, they say true artists have to experience suffering to unlock the emotion. He's a true artist.
My mate had a Ford Capri back in 1975 and we used to listen to 461 Ocean Boulevard (which had this cover) on an 8-track player as we drove around. This was in Cape Town in South Africa, so very stunning scenery whilst listening to Eric. Happy days.

You need to check out all of the Crossroads concerts.I believe that there were 10 of them.Earlier in life Clapton had a substance problem, and he later created a clinic in the Caribbean to help others with the same issues. These 10 concerts were how they were funded. Check out all 10 concerts. He invited all of his friends. Pay attention to the legends playing on stage with him. They are not on every song , but change from song to song. There are a lot of great musicians on stage at any one time. Do your research first,so you can recognize them . ENJOY!!!!!!!!!
Eric is an incredibly talented guitarist! I'm particularly fond of his "blues" covers. You feel the music right down in your soul! Great singer also! I seem to remember him doing a collaboration with B.B. King. - oh I remember now it was "The Thrill Is Gone" and probably more because they were great friends. B.B. King was also great! Some of my favorite Eric Clapton songs are "Lay Down Sally" and "Cocaine" and are both very well worth the listen! I find the backup singers on this one quite distracting though.

Clapton was originally in The Yardbirds, a great R&B band until they went 'commercial' so he quit. He then joined John Mayall's Bluesbreakers recording a great album in 1965 of that name + "with Eric Clapton" - it's on RUclips. He left to form Cream with Jack Bruce & Ginger Baker in 1966.

Clapton already made a name for himself with the Yardbirds and Bluesbreakers, played lead on the Beatles' While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and invented hard rock with Cream & "Sunshine Of My Love"....All before 1970! Since then it's been a series of incredible solo records and concerts and he's still going strong.
Got to see Clapton among many greats at the Crossroads Festival. It was a very memorable show. Also have it on DVD. Clapton is a hit-fest. A legend, that one.

Whats so great about Clapton live is no distortion in that solo. Every single note played to perfection. Not a single mishit or slight miss placement of his fingers. There is a reason he's called Slow Hands. It's like hes not even trying. A true master.
For some killer Clapton check out Five Long Years-Nothing But The Blues(1995)(remastered 2022). Nothing But The Blues was a DVD full show. Music from that show was an album Called From The Cradle. IMO, Clapton in his prime!!! Even if you don't react to it, you won't be sorry!!!
It’s always a pleasure to hear Eric live and his evolution over the years. You always hear that incredible sweet tone and the impeccable cleanness of his playing… making the guitar sing! I think he has always underestimated his singing/voice. I think he said he was reluctant to sing in his early bands… but I’ve always enjoyed the sound of his voice. That being said, there are so many great Clapton performances but yes! live version of Crossroads is a must with Cream!!

Clapton has played this song so many times, it is bound to evolve and change. The album version is great, but I love live versions.
I saw Eric with Elton John, at Wembley in 1992. It was AWESOME! Two legends, even then, playing together. Fantastic!

Whats so great about Clapton live is no distortion in that solo. Every single note played to perfection. Not a single mishit or slight miss placement of his fingers. There is a reason he's called Slow Hands. It's like hes not even trying. A true master.
For some killer Clapton check out Five Long Years-Nothing But The Blues(1995)(remastered 2022). Nothing But The Blues was a DVD full show. Music from that show was an album Called From The Cradle. IMO, Clapton in his prime!!! Even if you don't react to it, you won't be sorry!!!

It’s always a pleasure to hear Eric live and his evolution over the years. You always hear that incredible sweet tone and the impeccable cleanness of his playing… making the guitar sing! I think he has always underestimated his singing/voice. I think he said he was reluctant to sing in his early bands… but I’ve always enjoyed the sound of his voice. That being said, there are so many great Clapton performances but yes! live version of Crossroads is a must with Cream!!
