Story of a very talented guy who transformed an Ambassador car into a Peugeot ones he saw in a flyer. A popular television commercial for the 206, known as "The Sculptor", involved a young Indian man deliberately damaging a Hindustan Ambassador (including having an elephant sit on it) and then spending the night welding it. The following day, the car emerges as an exact replica of the 206's shape - except with many dents and discolorations. The man then takes his 206 replica driving with friends, with many interested onlookers.

I didn't notice that when I first saw it when it first came out but watching it again now you notice it.
I guess it was too difficult to get a RHD version for the filming to add a essence of believability.
it's RHD in both versions, look closely at 00:38, other guys hand on the steering.
@@cbcine Its not RHD in both versions as the guy who modifies it is the one driving it at the end. It only looks like the other guy is but if you look closely you'll see.

@@cbcine They used a real 206 (presumably from France) to make the "finished" car. It is a LHD car, you can see the dashboard bulge on the right side of the windscreen looking at the car from the front.
Odd as this was filmed well after the release of the 206 in the UK and other RHD places, so wouldn't have been a difficult thing to aquire.
I remember watching this advert as a kid. This ad is quality. Why are there no good adverts now?

It is also shown that the guy has done some welding too. Just because he is not a Westerner, you should not automatically imply that he could not perform more technically challenging modifications -- doing so would be just plain ignorant! Still, I find this advert funny!

oh my god this ad was absolutely UNEARTHED back from the most remote depths of my memory. Never in a thousand years I would have remembered about this, and I still didn't until the very last clip with that song.

By the way the commercial is pretty true.We had Peugeot 206 4 door hatch 1.9D and it ran strong,was driven hard and never warmed up,we never had a problem with it.In the period of 5 years oil from the engine just blown away,because there was a lot of condensate.We sold it and know what?This car worked in taxi for a while and I still see it on the streets...No rust,no nothing.
10/10,would recommend on small budget.

Very Honest AD, Ambassador was so strong that it withstand landmine blast and saved the life of a Chief Minister, It could easily score 10/10 in NCAP rating...I guess

+Kieran Curtis Sorry to bust your bubble but the 206 has been one of the most reliable city-cars and tops the 2nd hand markets around Europe. Including Germany's. Mentioning the Audi A3, I can hardly find 2nd hand ones of the period 2000 - 2010 in the market, any market even if you could see the car being sold new and circulating. What happened? Did they send them to Africa or something? Orrrr.... was the A3 so crappy that most of then ended in the car junkyards? Next time get information before you comment.
Panos A lol my 206's head gasket and radiator survived driving on my ice track with the engine temperature over 110°, only thing i had to repair was an hose to radiator from coolant tank
peugeot 206 engines were extremely reliable in my exp. Cant say the same for the chasis/bodywork tho
If it tops the 2nd hand market, it probably means people are getting rid of it in high volumes for some reason...

I agree...I visited India in 2001 when i was 15 and have dreamed of going back. I have a huge list of favorite commercials but this is the best. I think most would think so too if they've taken a trip to India before, one of the most beautiful places on earth; the land, the people, and the culture.

TauGay TauGay Ok ok perhaps I haven't made myself quite clear. I said "at the back" but referring to the guy sitting next to the owner of the car, not to the one sitting on the back seat. The thing is that from this perspective I guess we could say that the guys sitting on the left seats of the car are "at the front" and the one on the right front seat is "at the back". Anyway I think it's clear now. You can even see that guy holding the steering wheel, not the protagonist, who is just chilling as co-pilot.
