I think that possibly applying alcohol would have made that easier to do. And I’m not talking about putting it on the wood! Great job! Before, I always wanted to try carving one of these! Now, not so much! Ha!
@@SimplyWoodworking Sage advice there, oh great one! Ha! The “don’t mess up” part is where I crumble! I’ve actually done some caricature carving ala Doug Linker style, and done a passable job. Everything I’ve carved, when someone sees it, gets carried home with them! They all ask if they could have them! And all of the carvings have been basswood! I’ve found any other variety to be cruel and evil, like a mother in laws heart!

@@tomt9543 I've tried that too, whittling a block of basswood into a snowman. It was not good, but at least he had a top hat!
