Not only would you be be isolating a piece of russian territory from the Russian mainland, you would also be effectively blockading a russian military port. I barely knew the name Buttigieg until a week or two ago. But he is incredibly well spoken (like Jake Broe). A breath of fresh air for us nerds that like logic and common sense.
I have heard more than a dozen able to speak that well, from both parties even this year (more in Dems side since MAGA, used to hear over that number when Republicans valued those skills) - it's just that they don't get much air time in major media. I saw an interesting documentary that suggested the reason Russia became so authoritarian was because the central government in Moscow could not control such a vast territory otherwise. Russia in the 1700-1800's had very poor transportation and communications systems, so the tsars simply ruled by force. Infrastructure has improved somewhat, but is sliding backwards fast now with the subjugation of the Internet/TV to propaganda and planes falling out of the sky due to poor maintenance due to sanctions. If, someday, Russia can integrate better via improved infrastructure, I think it can survive and free itself from autocracy. Otherwise, it should divide into separate countries that can be better integrated, more responsive to the local population, and maybe more democratic.

I saw an interesting documentary that suggested the reason Russia became so authoritarian was because the central government in Moscow could not control such a vast territory otherwise. Russia in the 1700-1800's had very poor transportation and communications systems, so the tsars simply ruled by force. Infrastructure has improved somewhat, but is sliding backwards fast now with the subjugation of the Internet/TV to propaganda and planes falling out of the sky due to poor maintenance due to sanctions. If, someday, Russia can integrate better via improved infrastructure, I think it can survive and free itself from autocracy. Otherwise, it should divide into separate countries that can be better integrated, more responsive to the local population, and maybe more democratic.

This is exactly the kind of comment that stokes up racism. "Oh.. look at all the disgusting dirty little Russians off to buy a toilet". It's disgusting. Russia is full of humans that want exactly the same things you do. Freedom, love, a beer in the evening, a job that pays the bills with some left over for leisure. I have NO idea if he would, but it seems like straight-up lying or being extemely vague- "I'll stop the war in 24hrs!" with zero explanation- is more his style than sneakily lying by omission. When making comparisons of the russian economy people often compare it to Italy, but an even more hilarious comparison is that the state of Florida in the USA has a GDP the same size as decrepit russia. There's a fun fact for you all! If you go to the wikipedia page - List of U.S. states and territories by GDP - Florida in 2024 was 1.6 trillion and is the 4th largest in the US after Cali, TX and NY, this is how pathetic russia is. 🤡

It's BS because they can only make a limited number of "cheaper" jet fighters (25 max) T-90 (100 max) tanks a year, so what are they going to spend the rest of their useless rubles on? They're already paying their soldiers more than a US army soldier makes a year. Inflation is double the figure quoted, so 25%, that's a 1/4 of their "cheaper" spending power gone. russia is a joke and we will beat it down forever🤡
