    This is a reupload to correct a factual error: New Clark City is being built to support Manila, but has not been officially declared as the new capital as the first version of this video stated.

    • @charlemagnethegreat2916
      @charlemagnethegreat2916 Год назад

      I'd like to add New Clark City will be home to few government department HQs such as Department of Transportation as a bid to create devolution in the government's centralization around Manila. The Presidential Office, Senate, and Congress would still remain in Metro Manila.
      New Clark City is an ambitious project to make an "aerotropolis" centered around Diosdado Macapagal Airport or commonly known as Clark Airport which is a former US Air Base. New Clark City shall also be home to the country's premier sports venues and training facilities constructed during the time Philippines hosted the 2019 South East Asian Games. New Clark City would also be home to many railroad projects such as linking Clark with Subic port via freight rail and a commuter rail called NSCR or North-South Commuter Rail from Clark to Manila and then to southern Luzon cities such as Calamba.
      There are many more developments I've not mentioned about New Clark City, since much of it is still a "blueprint" synonymous to how Cyberjaya and Putrajaya outside Kuala Lumpur or Iskandar outside Johor Bahru in Malaysia was developed. Its too early to really say how successful Clark would be except for the things we already see unlike how new districts within and outside Metro Manila are now beginning to take form faster than Clark like Nuvali in Laguna.

    I love urban planning that's why I played a game megapolis. 😁

      Thank you John. You're right about the heavier focus on history for this one. As an American with a largely American audience I thought it was important to put our country's role in the modern history of Manila in proper context. We don't learn much about this period in school so I wanted to shed a little more light on it.

    • @GoChicago

      Comparing it to the other cities TDC’s take on Manila is quite negative. Especially the line about “Filipinos trusting each other”.

    • @derbdep
      @derbdep 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@GoChicago it’s awfully cropped and skewed. BGC as the “single bubble” of development and safety in a sea of extreme poverty and extreme crime is probably the most laughable statement. Loads of typical Western disdain for anything to do with the Philippines. They need people and countries to look down on constantly in order to make their status seem “valid”. There’s telling the truth, and becoming a poverty porn content producer. This is sadly TDC’s take on developing world cities.

    4:48 Manila was rebuilt after the devastation in ww2 there were no homes no public services everything you see today was built upon a foundation of improvisation that's why there are squatters today they are the descendants of the war refugees and their survival improvisation has passed through every generation of people becoming a culture in itself. They rebuilt this city while sleeping on tarps and open streets.

    There is a historical errors in the description here.
    even before the arrival of the Spanish, Maynila has been at the center of thriving maritme kingdom, the muslim kingdom of the Lusones people, ( now the Tagalog and Kapampangan people) led by historical figures as Rajah Matanda, Lakandula and Sulayman. In facts its princes was blood relatives and allied with the Brunei Sultanate and Sulu Sultanate, the strategic harbors of maynila allowed ships to dock from China, India amd the rest of southeast asia. These Goods were traded by the lusones peoples to the Inland peoples of the North Luzon and Southern Luzon. The Visayan Datus also answered to Lakandula of Maynila... before this gets too long. My point is, Maynila is a great maritime trading center long before the Spanish Arrival due to its natural strategic location, not a mere settlement.

    There is another factual error here, the Philippine Revolution was started and was already on its way, way before Rizal was convicted.
    The KKK was founded in 1892 by revolutionary minded Filipino Nationalists who rightly saw that there was no bargaining with Spain for Reforms. They already initiated Revolution activities as early as 1895.. the Revolution was not born from what happened to Rizal, it was already underway.

    The narrative about "decades of unsteady leadership" is not accurate actually. Philippines has had peaceful trasition of leadership for the 4 presidents. It was problematic during the martial law and when Erap Estrada was ousted.

      people power made it regress instead of progress . During Cory's time there were coups after coups, so there was no governance or nation building happening but only politicking and fighting of the dynasties who want to remain in power. This was in the eighties ,you can look at the gdp growth in the eighties it was very low, underperforming compared to its neighbors. Overpopulation made it worst. It was a cycle of boom and bust and it's only been the last decade that it's experienced a relatively stable period with positive growth and hopefully it can continue for another decade while keeping the population stable and then standard of living will improve for everyone not just the rich.
