I cried when a read she had died in 2022. She was absolutely beautiful. It's hard to believe this song is 40 yrs old as we speak. Maybe that's why I cried. Where has my youth gone? Luckily for me there will always be these songs. Journey was nowhere near my favorite band but no denying Perry was one of the best singers. I could watch the video on repeat for hours. Seems like another universe and it was definitely more innocent times. Keep trucking Steve and RIP Sherrie.
Two Sherries? Not sure who these other commentors are talking about but.... both the woman in the video and the woman to whom the song is dedicated to is Steve's girlfriend at that time, Sherrie Swafford. She was American, with one source saying she was born on 10/30/1957 and another saying 1956 and yet another 1953. She and Steve broke up in 1985 presumably due to pressures of him touring with Journey and him not wanting to get married at the time, but according to them both they did remain friends. They never married nor had children together (although one article says they were married and divorced...and then later on in that same article it says she was never married). Sherrie passed away (according to most articles) on 11/22/2022 at age 66 of natural causes, although there is an article that says she passed in 2004 of cancer (they might have mixed her up with another of Steve's girlfriends, Kellie Nash) and yet another saying she is still alive and still other articles that talk about her in the present tense (probably because they were written before her death). There is also an article that says Sherrie has a son named Shamaree but again, that might be a mix-up with Steve's daughter Shamila who was born from a brief fling in the 1990's.
@@rmmyt Sherrie is alive as of today. Kelli Nash died in 2012. Steve and Sherrie never married. But Steve does have a daughter who lives here in North Carolina.

My mom's favorite song. She just had a stroke. Playing it today for her, she was tapping her foot and mouthing the words. Was awesome to see. Thank you, Steve. ❤
My dad actually played with Journey as a fill in for Neil Schon on tour when he was too jacked up to play. They used to have breakfast everyday. I always wanted to meet Neil but it never came to pass. Dad also had a stroke recently and had to have both of legs amputated due to diabetes. I also played this song for him. He loved it. I find myself looking back at these classics and loving them just as much as he does. Seeing him get giddy was so awesome. Wish you the best.

This classic masterpiece still sounds as good today as when it was released in 1984. Steve Perry's voice is so beautiful and has so much power and soul. Tuneless music sung by a one of a kind music legend.
I used to care for a lady , end of life/hospice, and her name was Sherrie. She was a flower child, attended Woodstock Festival, protested and marched for what she believed in. Man, the 70's and 80's were a lucky time. Steve Perry, Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson...the musical talent of that time is just staggering. Today we have... well, probably no one that will be hailed as "The Voice" for decades to come.
How true! He was very protective and tried to take care of his voice. He wasn’t a dummy like many other singers of the day. Journey isn’t my favorite band, but if I could pick a singing voice for myself it would definitely be his.

I was born but just a little too young for the Frontiers album. I would have loved💜to see Journey in concert then. I was a very young teen when this came out. I absolutely love him, his voice! Amazing💞 At Christmas time I was blessed enough to receive a test pressing vinyl album with his autograph on it and numbered, a marble album of the Christmas album, varsity jacket that says SP big on the back and small on the front. So blessed🙏
Damn it I would, but I had to sell the delorean. We just have to let it go. We can't live in the past forever. We can't hang on to a 10 year block of time, the 80s.

It's crazy ain't it, I can remember standing at the bus stop talking about this song with a few of my buddies, two of which are twins and one of the twins says "man that guy sounds just like the guy from Journey" lol. His twin then tells him "they're the same person dumbass" lol.
I graduated 1984. What a wonderful time in history.
Vive le 80s Baby!!!!
I can always feel the hug he gives Sherrie!
Omg yes!!! I’m like insanely jealous of that girl!! I’d switch places in a heartbeat!!
La joven que funge como su novia es Courtney Cox
April 5th 2024, still loving this song.
June 21st, 2024. Going strong. ❤
What a voice!!!!
Man, the 70's and 80's were a lucky time. Steve Perry, Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson...the musical talent of that time is just staggering. Today we have... well, probably no one that will be hailed as "The Voice" for decades to come.
We have BTS!!!!!
@@onemilkyway 😄
Before the 70s....was the 80s.
@@onemilkyway 😂😂😂😂🤡
Michael Jackson was a child molester.
I love Steve Perry, his voice is singular. He IS Journey, there is no Journey without him, IMO.
Agreed
No Steve Perry, No Journey. They do Steve Perry songs.
Um Journey was around long before Perry. Hell, he was their third Lead vocalist…
@@matte2160 yeah, but Steve ultimately made Journey who they are today, even after all these years.
And the fact that he was still in Journey when he did his solo career like Oh, Sherrie and Foolish Heart
The likes of Bach and Beethoven would have respected how Steve Perry used his voice as an instrument of unparalled expression. What a gift!
How true! He was very protective and tried to take care of his voice. He wasn’t a dummy like many other singers of the day. Journey isn’t my favorite band, but if I could pick a singing voice for myself it would definitely be his.
Es y será por siempre una gran voz
His voice ❤❤❤❤
There would be NO Journey without Steve Perry........
A to the MEN! He was JOURNEY!!!
So true!!!
There was the real Journey for the first 3 albums before prima donna Perry was foisted on the band and ended what they had been.
Remember from baseketball , Steve perry!!
Journey existed for a few years before Steve Perry was introduced to the band.
Ahh, the 80s. The best vocals and musicians just needed instruments and their voices. No gimmick needed. No dancers needed.
With all the tec they have today, you don't even have to have a good voice. Pathetic!
Isn't that the truth
@@careyglowe914 He's an Altino Conralto Countertenor like Tevin Campbell.
Steve Perry's voice transcended stage presence, looks and celebrity. He's probably the best voice of the century.
Steve is in second place, after Freddy Mercury
@@ThomasWilke-j9kSteve Perry and Freddy Mercury are great. But I have to add “super” Mario Lanza!
A truly unique love song 💝
One of most powerful and beautiful voices EVER!
Comparable to MJ.
この時代の最高のボーカリストです。(the best vocalist of this era)
One of the greatest voices in the history of music.
Steve Perry, Tevin Campbell, Altinos RULE!!!
Creo lo mejor mismo
Him and David Bowie.
Agree with you
Lou Gramm as well
My God, Steve you gave me goosebumps from that first note. JESUS CHRIST, What a voice!!!
Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour
why are you telling Jesus? what does He have to do with it??
same!
I'm always going to listen to this group love Steve Perry always
the voice that will never die. a once in a lifetime sound that will never be replicated
He had a totally magical voice in his prime. It’s late 2022 and I still love this song.
2023 and this song still lives on
What so amazing performance. Incredible sweet voice
kkkk
I Bet He Still Has It It just needs to be exercised it comes from the soul the throat is just the vessel
The moniker THE VOICE wasn’t just given to anyone! Steve’s still in his prime even at 74 and can sing anything and does so to perfection!!🎶🎼🎤
Does anybody else realize that we grew up with the greatest music in the world?
Clark Kent....lol m, we sure did AND, we also grew up with the man changing into his flying suit in a telephone! That wouldn’t work so well in this day & age, poor guy would be running naked...NO TELEPHONE BOOTHES any longer🙁 lmao👍🏻💗🇨🇦
Clark Kent yep😬☺️
Born in the 80s we were so lucky. I mean it sucks getting older, but I feel sorry for ppl born in the 90s or 00s who didn't have these songs as the soundtrack to our childhoods!
I was born late 50’s so it was the ONLY music of my life and continued on to this day listening faithfully!!! Everyday, Everywhere...I’ve driven many people crazy in my lifetime, work home etc cuz Steve Perry, Journey & Bee Gees were playing ALL THE TIME! Lol oh those were the days🤔🤗👍🏻🇨🇦💗
I agree
Oh how I had the biggest crush on Steve Perry, whew! His voice for lack of a better word soars. One of the best vocalists in Rock history. Journey with him was magic.

There will NEVER EVER be a vocal talent in this life time like the Amazing range of Steve Perry. Any one that knows me, knows I AM HIS BIGGEST fan.Even my license plates say JOURNEY. WE all miss you.
Cool... I thought I was their biggest fan, lolz ;)
Lol, I thought it was me. Love Journey, but only with Steve "the voice" Perry!
Wait, I thought his biggest fan was ME!! Lol Let's face it, Stevie has so many!!! We're a loyal bunch!!!
Playing devils advocate here, there are voices with more range. But..none sound anywhere near Steve’s voice. Truly the best singer of all time.
That man's voice brings me so much joy I can't explain it. His singing touches my soul. Love Journey, my fave.
This was my favorite video on MTV, back when MTV was all about good music.
TRY JBTV out of Chicago. Yellow logo with black writing. Seen some great stuff up there.
UsfanlovesMinho ant that the truth I sure do miss MTV and vh1 the way the used to be
Back when the "M" in MTV stood for Music, not Moronic?
yup, now there about pregnant teenagers
Love always 💖
SO GLAD TO HAVE BEEN A SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL IN THE 80’s NO MUSIC EVEN COMES CLOSE TODAY!!! Best ever!!!!!!!!!
Lucky
So true.. 80's music 🎶 had a story in every song..💜💜
It really doesn't. ☀
The woman in the song was gorgeous
Yup i do still listen to this song
My wife and I went to a lounge/club in San Francisco and he was a surprise artist the man’s voice is as strong as ever.
Steve Perry one of a kind voice. This brings back so many good memories of a simpler time
Definitely. I missed the eighties
You are so right. It was a time with more simplicity. Lovely song. Steve Perry's voice is so beautiful, and like no other. This song is a treasure. ❤️✨🌟
Me too.
I’m amazed of how incredible Steve Perry’s voice is. His voice is just insane. Every song he sings is just , “wow.”
One of the best vocalists of that generation
This song can lift anyone's spirits, and bring some light to a dark situation.
Yes...💖💖💖👍🏽💖
This is journey's music that got my grandsons started. Thanks to his daddy. From birth. He's 13 now.
Rather unfortunately even extremely dark circumstances cannot be overcome by merely this beautiful song...
Definitely. You feel his passion through his voice. The raspiness lol
Steve Perry the best singer ever and ever! Please do another album with Journey!
I used to play this song for my deceased wife! She was my world of over 35 yrs., still miss her,but I know she's in great hands! Love ya babe!
aw...thats sweet
I’m sorry for your loss!
JAN Dont worry I know she's holding on waiting for you
Jan ZmAn Amen
❤️
Man... that voice! Blessed to have grown up with this gem!
agreed!
While he was in his prime, I wasnt even born yet, But hear I am listening to the legend. This man is incredible all around
Ich bin 10 Jahre jünger als Steve und du hast recht und einen sehr guten Geschmack.👌
I was born but just a little too young for the Frontiers album. I would have loved💜to see Journey in concert then.
I was a very young teen when this came out.
I absolutely love him, his voice! Amazing💞
At Christmas time I was blessed enough to receive a test pressing vinyl album with his autograph on it and numbered, a marble album of the Christmas album, varsity jacket that says SP big on the back and small on the front. So blessed🙏
You have GREAT taste in music! 😁
That voice will NEVER go out of style❤ Love you, Steve ❤
Can we pls bring back the 80's?
Sincerely,
Everyone
I agree, I would be young again :-)
Journey when you love a women
Joanna R Dude, I so agree with you.
Fire up the flux capacitor
Damn it I would, but I had to sell the delorean. We just have to let it go. We can't live in the past forever. We can't hang on to a 10 year block of time, the 80s.
Steve Perry makes singing look effortless. I saw him backstage in San Francisco in 1980 and he was ( is) AWESOME
Nice profile pic, I used to drive through it every day
