Language and communication derives from the interplay of words and images, sounds and symbols. In a session that celebrates the power of graphics, a panel comes together to discuss the ways in which publishers and authors are reimagining context, references and illustration for today's technological generation and its ever-reducing attention span.
Sarnath Banerjee is the author of graphic novels Corridor, Barn Owl's Wondrous Capers, Harappa Files, All Quiet in Vikaspuri, and Doabdil. He is currently working on a large comic book built around the myths surrounding dislocation and integration through the eyes of an Indo-Pak couple who have migrated to Germany.
Nancy Silberkleit, daughter-in-law of Louis H. Silberkleit, one of the founders of Archie Comics Publications, stepped into her role as Co-CEO of the company in 2009 with a vision that the comic book as a graphic novel is a valuable tool for developing literacy among first-time readers and instilling a love of reading for everyone. As a former public school educator, homemaker and mother, she knows the importance of learning to read and coined a personal motto that “Children+Comic Books=Reading, Knowledge and Confidence.”
Kalden Sonam Dorji, aka Kelly, is a Bhutanese actor and author. He lives in Thimphu, Bhutan, where he owns a leading travel company and one of Bhutan's most popular night spots called The Grey Area.
Somnath Batabyal's first novel, The Price You Pay, was published in 2011. It has taken him thirteen very long years to write his next, Red River, which is being published in 2024. Batabyal lives in London where he teaches at the School of Oriental and African Studies.
